Griffin was supposed to be one of the better players to come out of his draft. Drafting players, especially straight out of high school, is always a gamble. They gambled and lost, but wouldn't you be complaining if the Nets had Griffin now and he was dropping 25 and 15 a game.

And I believe they almost drafted Jay Williams. Anyone still remember him?

if you post a sarcastic post you should post a  otherwise people will not understand you.

    perhapse i'm one of them:D
if you were serious. you are wrong. CD never wanted to draft williams. they wanted Yao. and only Yao. we already had a great point guard. alot of people here said: draft williams, and trade francis for a decent big man. (i know they mentioned antonio davis). then our team would have looked better:D
so CD never wanted to draft williams.
but if you were sarcastic then LOL.

Oh wait, that wouldn't be those 3 first round picks they pissed away for, what was his name? That certainly proved to be a genius move by CD & Co. Just imagine this: with one of those picks they could have taken a player who actually shows up to play and contribute on the court. What a revelation!

i'm not sure if you really do not know it but i will explain it.

    lewis was drafted in 1998
the rockets had 3 first round picks. and a second round pick
with the first round picks they selected:
    bryce drew
    michael dickerson
    mirsad turcan
the second round pick was mobley.

so griffin does not have anything to do with that trade.

also i would like to add, that nobody knew lewis would be that good. and if the rockets had picked him and he had the same numbers(1.3 rebounds and 2.4 points/second year 4 rebounds 8 points), alot of people would have said we should have traded him. perhaps he would be part of the francis trade.
and if we drafted him we would not have had Yao.

people we cannot change history and we will never know what would have happened if we did draft lewis. or what would have happened if we drafted Jordan. or traded jordan for sampson. but the bottom line is. stop complaining about the history. he have had about 15 threads this year alone about that we should have drafted Lewis. we can't do that anymore. get over it

By this attitude, Rox as a team will never improve upon its draft picks.

I don't think fans here are thinking Lewis per se. People are not happy about Rox's draft picks in general for the past few years.

    So 1998 3 1st round. and a 2nd round pick
bryce drew, michael dickerson, mirsad turcan
    and second round pick, mobley.

    1999, 1st round, K. Thomas, SF
    2000, who did we pick?
    2001, 3 1st round swapped for EG
    2002, Yao and Nachbar

So for at least 6 1st round picks and a couple of 2nd round picks, we got SF and Cat to show for it, and we have a pretty weak bench with no real backup PG.

By the way, Yao was never supposed to be Rox's pick. It has nothing to do with our win-loss as long as we are in the lottery. We were super LUCKY.

i'm not saying i'm happy with the draft pick of the rockets. i'm just saying is no use complaining about it years after it happened. how many threads did we already have about Lewis???
yes the rockets made some mistakes.deal with it and look at the future. and maybe chance something in your scouting. But we also made good choises. every franchise has good and bad choises.

So do you have any suggestions what the Rox should do in the future with regard to draft picks?

By the way, it is true every franchise has good and bad choices, but good franchise always has more good choices than bad choices. In this regard, I think Rox is a pretty average franchise.

The prob is, he won't drop 25 and 15 a game. He has no low post move (bad for PF) and he's a lousy shooter (bad for SF), not to mention he's a terrible defender. I'm not even sure what position I'd qualify him as, 4 or 3. The only thing he had going for him was his athleticism and his potential, which he likely will never fill. And that was before the weed/gf problems.

Lets not forget the fact that he (Rudy) has a poor understanding of talent (i.e. drafting), cannot develop young talent, and last but not least he is one of the most overrated coaches. I'll give it to him for getting two rings, but, Jordan was not playing for one; two, he had two of the NBA's 50 Greatest on the same team; and three, he had to do very little, with the Rockets already having the established talent. Can you believe Portland has/is considering bringing in Rudy T as a GM? If that happens, which I doubt considering that he probably wants to coach again, I feel sorry for them!

i have no suggestions. because i'm not unhappy with it. it is hard to scout. i'm not saying the rockets aren't good at it. like i said every franchise makes good and bad desicions. i also think the rockets are average.

Do not always think the player you missed is really THAT good. With Steve Francis and Cat Mobley in the team, Lewis can never be developed into what he is now. He may just become another Boki. Remember, Steve and Cat can NEVER make his teammates better, any rookie propspect in this team would be ruined.
