Shams: DeMar DeRozan has agreed to a five-year, $139 million-plus deal with Toronto, sources tell The Vertical.
Largest contract in NBA history (right now). Lillard has more money with incentives. DeRozen is worth the money given his age, production, and general market rate.
28M per year for, what?, the 4th or 5th best SG in the NBA when the SG position is comparatively weak than any other position. 1. Harden 2-3. Thompson or Bulter 4 - 5. Derozan and Wade Raptors really overpaid here.
Based on old cap % numbers, this is equivalent to 20m/year in the old NBA. They really should just have people mentioning cap % that the contract will take now. All these numbers are going to be way way more than we are all used to.
They get paid in USD, and considering CAD has been tanking to no ends recently, it's actually pretty good for him
Great move by Toronto, I would have loved to have him here. Good player, improving, if he gets turnovers down and his shooting percentage up he'll be a top 5-10 player for sure.
He's a great player, but never going to be a top 5-10 player ever IMO. He's a good scorer, but he doesn't elevate his teammates on offense. He's also not as good of a shooter as you would hope for to ever be in that category. I can see him being a consistent top 20 player in the league, but not top 10
I'm not, I said I could seem him being a potential top 20 player. Even if he increases his shooting, he doesn't do enough to be considered a top 10 player in the NBA. He's not a lockdown defender or doesn't make his teammates better.
