What if it becomes obvious the Mavs aren't contenders with their current roster? What if the tread on Kidd & Jet wears thin and Josh Howard doesn't perform up to par? I can see all 3 of these happening. Rick Carlisle is an underrated coach, but there is only so much he can do.

Once it becomes obvious to Cuban his team can't contend, he won't sit still and do nothing.

Maybe if that is the case, but I think Dallas looks pretty good this year, and like you said, Carlisle is a good coach.

    LOL. Yes he is.

Dirk has led a team to the finals, won an mvp award and has led a perennial western power for the better part of a decade.

Bosh can't get his team into the playoffs in the east.

    LOL

Bosh is a better rebounder, a better defender, and a better finisher at the rim. The only thing that Dirk does better than Bosh is shooting the ball from distance. On top of that, Bosh is about 6 years younger. There are only a few players that Cuban would be willing to consider trading Dirk for. Bosh is on that list. Ideally, he'd like to have both Dirk and Bosh and let Dirk retire a Mav. But Cuban is ruthless. He's the Al Davis of the NBA. He'll drop Dirk on his head if he thinks his game is slipping and he could trade a declining Dirk for a younger Bosh.

Bosh has proven he can do all those things on absolutely terrible teams. Like I said. Dirk has led a perennial power in the west for nearly a decade. Bosh can't get his team into the playoffs in the crappy east. Neither player is a great rebounder, or defender. Dirk on the other hand can carry a title contender while Bosh has never proven he has been able to carry even a decent playoff team.

Pop and PJ are just as good, but their teams are more talented. The Lakers and Spurs are obviously better and one could argue the Nuggets and Blazers are also. Unless another trade comes up that makes the Mavs better and/or these other teams are weakened by injuries, the Mavs will win some games this year but will be lucky to get out of the 1st round. Cuban is smart enough to know that.

Unless the Mavs can grab a very good center before the trade deadline, they are spinning their wheels. Even if they upgrade the pivot, I truly expect Kidd and Jet to decline. Cuban is impatient and will look toward the future once this season's promise fades enough. Getting Bosh for Dirk seems very plausible to me. I don't think he's married to the idea of Dirk retiring as a Maverick, but that's just my opinion. The regret of letting Steve Nash get away may still sting.

While I don't doubt the possibility of Dirk's name being mentioned in potential Bosh trade rumors should things fall apart in Dallas, it's silly to sit here and debate who's better between Dirk and Chris Bosh. That type of argument is extremely one-sided. Let's not derail the thread with that type of nonsense.
