While I am not a huge fan of this deal (Was excited when I saw report but let down when I read what we got), it's not a terrible deal when you consider we got what looks to be a pick between 7-12 PLUS gaining more cap space. Not great, but not bad either.
Well yeah, but what're the chances that happens? But you didn't want him on this team helping us get victories next year, right?
I imagine this scenario: Raptors and Rockets finish with same record. We get to the lotto (lets say we have 7 & 8 spots), they call Rockets at 9, but then another team at 8. Now we go into the top 3 picks, hoping to God that the number 9 pick was Toronto's.
i believe it is lottery protected and the way things are going we will be using our own pick next year.
It goes the other way, too. Lowry has a ceiling. He absolutely is not going to be more than he is right now - a "pretty good" point guard. A top 5 or so lottery pick, on the other hand, can be a star. If you're trying to find or trade for a star, which the Rockets are seeking to do, the ceiling (both for us as well as, say, Orlando) is more important than the floor.
Ok my bad .. thanks for clearing that up.... We'll probably end up with a pick somewhere around 10 in the 2013 draft.
If this was anywhere near reality, we would have been able to flip Lowry into a top 5 pick 2 weeks ago. The truth is, until drafted and proven to be a bust, draft picks are overvalued by every NBA GM due to the mere possibility that it could turn into a star/superstar. In the end, did we get enough for Lowry? That question is irrelevant. For a team that is looking to tank, and for all you tankers out there, Lowry NEEDED to be traded. Every other GM knew this as well, so whether this was enough or not, this was ALL we could get. If it turns out to be the 14th pick, tough luck. If it turns out to be a top 5 pick, we got a steal. Either way it had to be done.
Remember that girl??? A lot of players she mentioned in her song left the Rockets and there will be probably more....
Fans overvalue players. Lowry is not an All-star. Lowry is not good enough to take his team to another level. His stats are slightly better than Rafer Alston, who no one ever confused with being an all-star. The Rockets needed to do something otherwise they will stay mediocre for a long time. I think that the Rockets got more for Lowry than what he is worth.
I'd say the odds of the Toronto Raptors making the playoffs for five consecutive years (or even 2 or 3, really) are about the same as the Rockets winning the Finals next year.

I've said a few times in this very thread that I'm fine with them trading him for a draft pick? Are you? I know this isn't the way you wanted them to go. I just hope we're not waiting 5 years on it. That would diminish the value of doing this trade to me....really significantly. Even 3 years of waiting on it would be a long time.
I'm assuming this was posted an hour ago: @hornets247 Was told by my Rockets guy that main motivation for Rockets in Lowry trade was to make pick part of Dwight Howard trade offer. They r going Retweeted by Orlando Magic Daily This is the same guy that reported our interest in a Gordon S&T
