I thought rap died with Tupac. I remember back in the day when rap was the real deal.. I said a hip hop the hippie, hippie to the hip hip hop you don't stop.
Check these guys out: MOJOE http://www.myspace.com/mojoefamily http://www.experiencemojoe.com/index.php They're actually gonna be in Houston on Aug. 7, and these guys play with a live band.
Until they can do this without sounded winded or falsified... forget them... they can't last... ^That is a rapper.
I opened up for KRS-One at Fitz a few years back. I got a chance to talk to him for like 10 minutes backstage and WOW... It's as if no one is mentally on dude's level...
its not the good ole' days syndrome. mainstream rap is dead. it just plain sucks. it may sound catchy but there is NO heart in it.
New rappers to listen to? There's still a bunch of very talented artist that have been in the game for years and nobody has heard of them or gave them a chance. Lots of people like to say hip hop is dead or whatever but there still plenty great artist out there. Now I agree that the mainstream scene is nothing but trash but the mainstream does not represent all of Hip Hop. Best Rapper you probably never heard: K-RINO from Houston, TX. Lyrically he is very underrated and is up there with the Top Lyricist from the South, even the nation.
I think the original poster is trying to hold on to something that is passing. Rap is dead for now, and rock has replaced it as mainstream music. Good riddance!
yeah it may be dead in terms of quality but it still makes plenty of money. and the (in my opinion) more underground stuff will always be kicking. as i see it mainstream rap now is like 80's big hair band rock n roll. it became a complete joke. it all comes and goes. the way rap now portrays itself is not healthy and it will crumble to an extent one of these days. lil john ying yang twins stuff like that will get whats coming to them. crap a** musik
I don't think the quality has as much to do with rap being dead as it has falling out of favor with young people. Young people drive mainstream music more than any other demographic and their focus has shifted to rock n' roll. No music is ever REALLY dead. I should know, because, among other things, I am a big bluegrass fan. Remember when Man of Constant Sorrow came out and everyone wanted to those type bands????
blah, rap is crap. old school stuff are alright, as a new art form. in my opinion, after 2pac died, so did rap. after 2000, it became a method of making money. now i avoid rap in anyway i can. gets on my nerves.
crookeds been doing his thang for a lil bit. Up and coming rapper, i'd say Joel Ortiz out of nyc. One that people may have heard of in the past few years cuz he's had some buzz from some places is Papoose and it looks like his album is finally gonna drop, it was supposed to drop bout two years ago but it looks like its finally coming through.
I was going to start a thread about "real" hip hop and what that even is or should that have mattered. Or did the argument for "real" hip hop actually dull the movement. And should there have been considered such a thing as a rap "movement" anyways? I still might start it one day but I like responding more than starting... Those new artists didnt sound as different as I thought, sounds like some of whats out there already. Some people don't want to hear the pop-lock-and-drop-it/catchy hook raps, but some people dont want to hear the "alternative" TI, Young Jeezy, Lloyd Banks, Rick Ross types either. But they definitely arent snappin and dancin, and they're not that bad I'll give em that credit... Rap music formula even good is just one step from blandness. So an artist really has to be interesting to stand out with anything meaningful and thought provoking, without sounding too boring and monotonous. And they have to have GOOD PRODUCTION ALWAYS. A crappy producer, then forget it. That AZ with Preemo song is tight cuz, its just Preemo lending the beats like always. Anyways here's what I been listening to lately. I really wish it coulda been new talent like the poster attempted And not an older rapper from the "good ol days" Canibus - Poet Laureate 2 (its long)
When Akon is singing "it's Akon and Glasses," that sounds really stupid. I think "Glasses Malone" is a pretty crappy rap name.
If youre looking for sick flows and meaningful lyrical content in the post 2000 era then I'd suggest you dl Immortal Technique... http://www.immortal-technique.com/ He's got two albums out called The Revolutionary Vol 1 and Vol 2. I personally like the 2nd one better but they are both pretty damn good.
50 and JT getting freaky naughty.
