It's business y'all. In exemple, a rapper from ATL might be liked in ATL but doesn't necessarly have the same fanbase in Chi-town or NY. He can do a colabo with a NY rapper that way, fans of the NY rapper will have the oppurtunity to discover the one from ATL and that way rappers get fan everywhere. The Luda Colabo with Bieber is just a pure marketing move, fans of Justin Bieber might start to like Luda and eventually buy his album.
That's why I miss the old rap, 2pac rapped for a reason...Eminem rapped about his life and his lyrics were meaningful, even Kanye in the beginning rapped with a meaning. But these days it's all about sex and money! THANKS ALOT LIL WAYNE! (you fake!)
Wow. I didn't know who Justin Beiber was either, I know shocking. I figured out who he was a few months ago. He's been hanging out with a whole bunch of white teenage boys lately. Just sayin' Mike.
Correct answer. If they're on a major record deal and making videos, they're sellouts or eventual sellouts. Entertainers are chameleon whores. Wherever the money and attention is, they'll go.
What has Ludacris said or done in the past that would make this selling out? Hasn't he always rapped about women?
Via Wikipedia: I'm sure Budden didn't get any money or fees for his songs being in those movies or video games. Point is--everyone is out to make money. Either they do it by selling records or by being a guest rapper/artist on another artist's record or by slanging Pimp Juice.
I think he was referring to the fact that Ludracris has never been labeled or look at as a gangster rapper or one that has a heavy street cred of either hustling drugs or doing hard time before becoming a rapper. Ergo, the theory that he "sold out" by being on a Justin Bieber song is untrue because he's also been the featured rapper for songs by Fergie, Sean Garrett, and Jess McCartney (the Justin Bieber of last decade). In conclusion, Ludacris isn't really a sell out because most of the music listeners never bought into the idea that he's anything more than a rapper that patterns his flows after nursery rhymes.
Ok to anybody who is a Ludacris Fan: The reason for "Battle of the Sexes" was that he it was going to a collaborative album with Shawna who was on DTP, but after Shawna left Ludacris decided to still put it out. It is really garbage and I've been a fan of Ludacris since Incognegro. The song he did with that kid made me just shake my head........but just download this CD. I just pretend this is Battle of the Sexes. http://www.5gproductions.com/re-releasetherapy/ And rappers=sellouts....not all are, to anybody that likes Dj Premier type music. If you've followed Joe's career, you'd know that the content on his first album was not his choice. Listen to Mood Muzik (1-3), Halfway House, etc... and tell me that Joe is the traditional "sellout" rapper. He's not. The endorsements for "Pump it Up" came after the fact. Budden was a nobody before that terrible song was released one summer.
I didn't say Budden is a traditional "sellout" rapper (even if there is such a thing as a TRADITIONAL sellout rapper). I don't follow his music nor his career. My post was just trying to make the point that, eventually in the end, any successful rapper that goes mainstream will find a way to "sell out" to continue funding his "successful and mainstream" way of life.
Looks like another Justin Timberlake protege... I don't like this kind of music, or the video... I like my music from the 80's and 90's thanks you very much...
How the hell do you sing with Justin Beaver and "keep it real"?? The whole industry is about making money and Luda would be stupid not to hop on board the gravytrain of the latest "teen" sensation. This still isn't as bad as Bow Wow singing provocative stuff when he was like 3. Who the hell believes that crap? lol.
"The old rap" in my book includes but not limited to Whodini RUN DMC Kurtis Blow BDP Eric B & Rakim Public Enemy LL Sugar Hill Gang To me this is the era when it was most pure. I'm just saying
I'm going to go ahead and say it... What's the big deal? He's not rapping about something he's never done or claiming to be something he's not. He's rapping about a girl he used to like when he was 13? If anything he's "keeping it real". Everybody had that one girl in middle school that had you all messed up in the head cuz she was THAT fine. And plus I think he's got a daughter that's old enough to be a Justin Bieber fan, there's no problem putting out music that she can listen to too. If making music that's popular equals selling out than any successful artist/group (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Run-DMC, Nas, Jay-Z, etc.) has sold out. The music isn't my cup of tea but there's nothing there that enrages me. Little girls need music to listen to too, right?
