    I'm down.

As for spell-checkers, I have this to offer:
Improper word usage, which isn't necessarily improper grammar, counts as a misspelled word.

In other words, using 'there' when you needed 'they're' or 'their' would count as a misspelled word. In this case, even though the word itself isn't spelled incorrectly, its usage in a given sentence would make it incorrect. 'Too' vs. 'to,' etc.

Make sense? Or does this make everything too complicated?

Now that I think about it....ah, hell, I don't know.

What are we going to talk about while we're dissecting each post for misspelled words?

That was actually a rule in the last one I believe because you actually did misspell the word you were attempting to use, no?

I believe there is a period where you can edit without the edit message showing up at the bottom of your post.

Cool. Good to know as I didn't participate in the first one.

Correct. Did it just now, actually.

My rule was to keep it as simple as possible and use the Honor System. The rule is simple...if it's in the dictionary, you are OK, but you really should accept the kill if it was indeed a typo. I don't recall having any problems with the honor system. The problems were people arguing over stuff like "may" vs "can." Some people take the "improper usage" to a far extreme...so it's best just to leave it up to an honor system, rather than having people argue with a judge...which is no fun.

    fun is simple
simple is the dictionary is the only judge
    beyond that is honor system

Very well put, and I knew that already. But, people shouldn't quote someone just after, they should wait until that time expires and editing shows "edited by", and THEN point it out... that would solve it... no?

I still say HONOR SYSTEM should be enough.

Seven pages in and nobody wants to point out problems with Hayesfan's "corrected" version of the "bad" post?

I generally don't use spell check in any circumstance (including past grad work). I check it myself (academic) or hit "submit" (here) and then edit if something jumps out upon a later reading. usually this is if somebody has quoted one of my posts, so there is always a record of my typo/error but I feel compelled to edit nonetheless.

so, do y'all really want to play the Spelling Survivor game despite Lil 'Pun's accurate assessment that browser spell checkers nowadays makes it silly?

I'll start the game. But i do think it's silly vs when we last played the game.
