Let me make sure I can understand what you said there correctly. Are you saying that foreign fans should not post here if their English is not excellent?

Another tastelessly attempt to mock the language skill of the foreign posters. Do you find it very funny? Are you aware that they are probably using their 3rd or 4th language when making their posts? I really detest idiots like you who enjoy mocking the foreign posters' language skill.

First of all, I didn't point out the poster. I was pointing out the post. If you notice I did NOT put their name in the quote.

I also apologized later in the thread. If you would have read through the thread to see that, you would have noticed I was irritated because I had a bad day and I was sick of reading things three times to make sure I understood what was being said.

Plus, if I am taking the time to read someone's post, I care about his or her (though on this board its more likely to be his) thoughts. So it's not because I think I am or am not more educated or that I am calling out someone's education. The problem is more that I can't understand how some people can hit submit before checking to make sure what they have written is logical and able to be understood.

I don't want to bash anyone because I do know a lot of posters here are not native English speakers. I want the posts to help those people get better at writing the English language. It's hard enough to learn as it is without people shortening words, using funky punctuation and overall just not caring if what they say sounds correct.

Please tell me this is sarcasm that I didn't get...

Looks like the only way we are going to resolve this is an old fashion grammar survivor game.

    :D

I started the original Spelling Survivor game. It was strictly about spelling, with an honor system for using words in the wrong place. It's fun, but we didn't judge grammar and punctuation (aside from what's in the dictionary); it causes waaaay tooooo many arguments, degenerating the game into a fight over what's proper English, when all we want to do is catch spelling errors. Even still, there were people who would argue over grammar.

That should be "sí" instead of "si", as "si" (no accent) means "if" in Spanish, and "sí" means "yes".

I shall join your game, Mr. heypartner, sir.

    Anyone else?

What are the time frames and rules, sir?

I guess I can explain the rules later tonight or this weekend. Understand we originally played this game when there was no such thing as "Contributing Members." They now would have an unfair advantage over Members/Rookies (searching and editing). I guess we could have two classes of players.

A spelling contest now would suck, especially with built-in spell checkers for browsers.

^Why would that be a problem? If someone is savvy enough to use a spell checker, more than likely they won't misspell otherwise, I think.

heypartner, I wouldn't think that could be a problem. I mean, if you catch someone and post it misspelled, it would seem "edited" by the member... the person catching can wait until they can't edit anymore. I know I can edit, but I must use the honor system to know someone caught me. I know... it's difficult, but one would have to be TOO MACHO to not accept defeat. :(

It's built into the browser. So if they type dudde instead of dude it will underline it in red until you fix it.

^I see what you mean, Hayesfan, I don't mean to argue about "how can they NOT misspell words in the browser?" because I know FireFox has that, and I usually use IE, but about the fact that, after posting, it's there for everyone to see. If they edit, then we can see their edit. If and how they post is up to them, but they're not cheating by using what's in the browser already, you know?
