Now that Dwight Howard is going to go the Lakers I am about to give up on the NBA. It's clear to me this league is fixed and we (Rockets) aren't part of the in crowd.
if it was fixed, it's fixed by the players wanting to go to the teams themselves. nothing you can do about it
You have to wonder how much influence the agents have in these trades. I can hear Dan Fegan whispering "Trade my guy to this team and I'll push this other guy to your team. If you don't then I'll make it really difficult for you to get any of the players that I have signed."
That's exactly what it is, the rich getting richer. Smaller market teams will never make it to the forfront of attention. No matter how many good guys we have or how much we deserve something good to happen to our franchise, the douchebags in control of things will never let that happen.
But what if the NBA (through corporate partnerships) owns enough of Nike and Adidas to influence them into getting what they want? If they tell Adidas to offer Howard a unjustifiably much higher contract for playing in LA or NY they will do it.
How is it fixed? Face it dude. Even if Dwight came here he'd just leave immediately afterwards and we'd lose out on our picks, rookies, and gain nothing in return.
I'm not going to give up on the NBA yet, but this is discouraging. The Lakers get Howard straight up for Bynum without giving up Pau or anything. Tell you one thing: Outside of the Rockets (and maybe OKC), I'll be watching a LOT less of the NBA next regular season (which is probably a good thing for me). May as well join many casual fans and put the NBA mostly on pause until the post-season.
It would be risky and would be an even trade if Bynum went to Orlando but he didn't. I wouldn't blame Orlando because I guess it's better than getting nothing but with the Houston rumor this trade looks horrible.
I agree. I will keep up with the Rockets (hopefully Clutch Fans will keep posting those highlight videos) and I will probably watch the the fourth quarters of some playoff games and the finals. There's not much to be excited about unless you're a fan of one of the big three (teams).
Also consider how terrible it looks for what Hennigan turned down from the Nets: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Final Nets offer Orlando rejected in July: Lopez, Humphries (1 year, $9.6M), Brooks, 4 unprotected No. 1's for Howard, JRich, Duhon, Clark.</p>— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) <a href="https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/233780578602856448" data-datetime="2012-08-10T04:23:28+00:00">August 10, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> The above ought to be Woj's lead story tomorrow.
