I have to disagree with heypartner. You don't know what sports pain is until you are forced to sit through a soccer game.
I love the Rockets and still can't really watch the playoffs b/c the team that beat us is still there and it should be us beating the spurs but to cry and whine about who is a bigger fan is just a waste of time. You either are a die hard or not. Most Houston fans could care less that the Rox lost in game 7, they got over it minutes after the game...you gotta remember, these are the same fans who failed to fill the stadium in Game 7 and who chear more when t-shirts are being thrown out than actual game action. P.S. Man-U are still the EPL Champs!!!! I'll take that over the FA Cup.
Screw soccer. Fans of their home countries soccer team usually care so much because soccer is the only show in the whole country. They usually don't have any other hometown teams to base it on. I mean, take Brazil, with the soccer team being the only major sport in the country...of course its going to suck losing in the world cup. That, and not many soccer fans know the pain of losing a game in a split second, like a buzzer beater ('97 rockets), walk-off homerun (Game 5 of the '05 NLCS), or game winning field goal (every team the patriots beat in the super bowl). Soccer is usually won sometime within the game, not at the end.
that may be true..but the MLS final with Ching's header with about a minute left in regulation was absolutely amazing.
The same reason why some people say that baseball is boring. I can never understand that. If you love and follow the sport, you will enjoy watching it more than just the home runs in baseball or the ball going into the net in soccer.
world cup is once every 4 year NBA is like every half year. No case here. Hands down to soccer. You know what I am talking about if you had emtionaly invested in soccer, which I am out of. Winning or doing well in the world cup might be like once in a fan's life, if the team is not named Brazil or Italy. Ask the Brits.
I dont think that because soccer fans kill people or commit suicide is an indicator of how fan are you are. If this was true, the guy who took the photos in Yao's house, should be the biggest rocket fan, but no, he is stupid, like people killing other people, or throwing fireworks in the stands and hit a player or a person in the face, and lose an eye, or in the worst scenario he died. In the soccer is not for families with little children, they are bored, and they can be hit by a old drunk guy. In the basketball you can bring your kids because is more like a family enviromental. In basketball you dont fight with other people just because your team lose to his team, you maybe scream at him. the world cup is a greater event than a season of the NBA, but I agree with heypartner that the pain, or the joy (if oyur team wins) is the same, if you are a devoted fan, you would feel the pain, for example my case: I dont feel a lot of pain when Mexico was eliminated in the last World Cup, but when the last seconds of game 7 I scream a lot to the computer and hit the desk (because I was watching online). And the reason I dont express my pain to other people is because they dont understand my feelings. BTW This is maybe the longest post I ever written in here. IM WITH YOU HEYPARTNER!!!!
You had problems comprehending my solitary post. As for it being solitary, its due to idiots like you who ain't worth the time. The magnitude of support between the two sports is huge, and you should take off ur ****ing tinted glasses and accept it... Oh, you American may not understand what football is all about, but i'm sure you understand the next 3 words pretty well.. " GO **** YOURSELF"
Soccer is the most exciting sport to watch, if you're watching the right teams. Come on, lets compare: Football: so freaking boring Baseball: unless there are excessive amounts of alcohol there is no reason to watch (Homer Simpson) Tennis: Anna Kournikova is pretty much all to see. Golf: BORING Hockey: soccer on ice, with no rules and sticks Baseball: did I mention how boring this sport really is? Lacrosse: Its pretty exciting, too bad you never completely know where the ball is. Volleyball: not a sport Softball: not a sport NASCAR: definitely not a sport. Do i need to venture further? Basketball is the closest thing to soccer, and it isn't half as physical or fast as soccer. Basketball keeps coming at you, true, soccer has longer breaks, but soccer players can run like no other. I am split between the two.
Try scoring an own goal on accident, then we'll talk, and there are some spil second games in soccer history too, ask any soccer fan.
So how many ppl cried and cursed all week when Tiger Woods lost? I'm not comparing basketball and soccer, just saying there are differences.
This is stupid !! How can anyone compare the pain you feel with the pain of others? Why is it hard to imagine that fans of WC soccer and NBA action can have the same depth of despair? Ludicrous ! DD
They are two completely different types of pain. Basketball pain is a slow pain that eventually kills you. Soccer pain, thats like getting your head chopped off. I hope that my satire is showing the utter uselessness of this thread. Please lock it up, at least move it to Hangout.
Soccer is for p*****s... I hate all the new era european players bringing all their flopping crap to the NBA. The NBA in the 80's and 90's was so much better in every way. David Sterns rule changes hurt a bit also...
soccer players normally have weak upper bodies cause it's played using your feet and no hands are allowed! basketball is better as a whole body exercise.
Not true at all. Football players need their arms to protect their space and to "shoulder push". Upper body strength is what makes a player like Adriano effective. You try keeping pace with a guy who's built like a tank and will wear you down on a run. It's tough enough when we see basketball players use their strength to outmuscle players from the 3-pt line to the rim. Now think about a football pitch.
ok they have strong upper bodies compared to normal people they're athletes afterall. but don't tell me they have comparable upper body strength to NBA baksetball players or professional rugby players. I've seen enough footballers take off their jerseys in celebration I haven't seen someone built like say David Robinson or Karl Malone.
scoring 1 or 2 goals is the equivalent of scoring 70-85pts in a van gundy system. nothing wrong with 2 goals in a game. it makes the game much more intense. both teams are playing hard and at any moment the game can be decided.
I agree that you will hardly find soccer players who have bodies like that but that's because that's not what their sport requires. You won't see marathon runners with a body like David Robinson or Karl Malone either...and a football (soccer) player runs about 10-12 km (6 to 8 miles) during the 90 minutes he is on the field, much of which are short sprints. The benefit of having a more muscular upper body would, for the purpose of being a soccer player, be outweighed by having to carry around that additional weight. That being said, there are some soccer players who are quite athletic, e.g., Cristiano Ronaldo or Didier Drogba.
