I too like Walmart. I don't love it, but when they have the cheapest deals it makes me happy and I rush over there to buy it from them wrather than paying more at another store.
First of all, what did you buy from Walmart? Usually if it's electronics or something big, they'll want to look. But if it's food or something small, they really don't give a ****. I rarely get stopped....
This is precisely why when I checked receipts the main thing I was looking for on it was the time the item was purchased.
The Walmarts and Targets of the world are good and do serve a purpose. I mean they do have some great deals and cheap prices...plus its a good convenience to have literally everything under one roof, that way you don't have to travel to fifty different stores to get what you need. But anyone who uses Walmart for their ONLY shopping destination is a complete IDIOT. Buying general stuff from their...ok thats fine... but there is no way in hell I'd buy any major electronics stuff, auto parts, home improvement, certain sporting goods, and for the most part apparel from there. Because the quality is just plain bad. Good chance you won't see me buying dvd's and music from there as well cause the shopping experience just sucks compared to going to Best Buy, plus the music section seems always in disarray and you can't even find anything save for the pop artists. And no way in hell I'd use walmart for auto repair, or go to the instore banks, salons and eye care.... just a side note, this past Black Friday, my gf's parents were at walmart, stumbled upon a pallet w/ a handful of dvd players left with a sign that displayed a super low price (like 14 bucks or something)...before they could finish the sign a horde of people snatched the last few up. And to those people...you are such IDIOTS...there's a reason its 14 bucks...because its a piece of s***! And did you know Walmart is coming out w/ their own brand of electronics! That said, I still think the superstores serve a purpose...but I do hate Walmart, even though I shop there all the time (mainly for food and only because the foods cheaper than grocery stores and because my Superstore AND Neighborhood Market forced out the Randalls that was near me), primarily cause its so ghetto (especially the one near me)...so I'd much prefer Target. But there will always be a place for small businesses...because the quality products and service they provide are far superior...and for a many product, those two points far outweigh price. And as far as the receipt thing goes...Its not any convenience for me to be stopped cause I just assume they'll stop me to check my receipt these days (even for the most they don't). Plus, for Walmart its really only the big ticket items or the large bulk purchashes that trigger the inventory control system. I remember back in the day Best Buy didn't use to check...but I heard sooo many stories of people stealing things that they pretty much had no choice but to check...so you can pretty much blame that on dishonest customers and employees.
Let me ask you this, Grandmaster. What were your instructions if a customer refused to dig out the receipt and just kept walking like esse did? I had a friend in college who absolutely loved to find the little, legal details for minor inconveniences and he told me once that, after you have paid for the merchandise and received the receipt, it is legally yours and no one has any right to demand to look at your goods or receipt unless they have some kind of probable cause for thinking you are stealing. I always wondered how accurate that was. I might just begin the "Keep Walking, Consumer" (KWC) campaign. At least as far as Walmart is concerned, I don't think they ask to check your receipt unless you have purchased something large that is fitted in the section underneath your basket. Since even honest people could simply forget to pay for something under there if the cashier doesn't see it.
I go shopping at the local Sam's Club here about twice a month and they've checked my receipt every time I've been since the store opened over a year ago. Sam's Club, the one here at least, doesn't have bags so it would be very easy for a person to put whatever they would like in their cart and just walk out like they made an honest purchase. I don't know if the local Wal-Marts have started this or were just doing it because of "Black Friday" but I know when I went and purchased some pots and pans, glasses, etc. on Friday they not only checked my receipt but had 4 off-duty State Troopers, 2 at each exit, there to on the lookout as well.
I don't think walmart is any more evil than any other corporation. They provide prices and selection 'small business' can't. I see no reason why I should pay higher prices and get less selection so you can save Joe's Hardware because you know Joe, or because you have some hangup against corporations. Having said that maybe this should be moved to D & D . The receipt thing doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is when they insist on asking for your personal details at checkout. Hey, shutup and take my cash. You don't need to know any of that crap.
Well my instructions were "Go to Front Door... Check Receipts" and not much else. When people asked me questions about it all I could tell them was "Hey Your guess is as good as mine." I tried to side with the customers as much as I could and joke around with them to make them not feel threatened. Pretty soon I was inventing my own rules. Ugly girls can keep their receipts, Hot ones need to bend over and fish them out.
checking reciepts is similiar to speed traps. you know everyone is speeding going 70 in a 55. but you can't stop everyone. so, you stop the guy going 75 and ask for his ID. and if you were stop going 70 and ticketed, you can't complain b/c you were still breaking the law. lol, ok, i tried to make the comparison as best as possible. don't really think i did though.
Apparently until about 6 months ago my little po-dunk town's Wal-Mart was the only one that actually closed at night.
naw...they have always done it...quite a few years back, when I still worked on cars, I actually worked at one for a short time...and it was normal procedure for them to do it. thats why it baffles me that someone is all the sudden noticing it and getting pissed....obviously doesnt go to WMs very often. and one other thing.....JunkyardDwg....Im sure you are correct when it comes to apparel....but when you buy a brand name product in the appliance, automotive, or housewares sections....you are getting the same quality you get at any other store that stocks that particular item. If you are stupid enough to buy some noname or generic item, and the quality isnt there...whos fault is that? The Sony, Pioneer, Valvoline, etc(brand-names) products that Walmart carries are the same as any other store carries...so Im not sure what you mean when you claim the quality is not as good as elsewhere.
