The Meowgi videos don't bother me because my work computer automatically blocks them along with youtube. Anyway, back on the topic - the 70's had the better overall music and artists but the '80s had the best one-hit wonders. We won't even go there with the '90s and the '00s as those decades have been trainwrecks.
You know I may be confusing Cardi's with the Roxy. Was there even a club called Cardi's in Houston in the '80s and was it a rocker club? What kind of music did they play at the Roxy?
I remember going to a Cardi's, but it was in the early 90's. There was one off of Bissonnet I believe? Detour pwnd!
Every decade has it's strongpoints. 70s - best fashion 80s - best music 90s - best television 60s - best orgies 00s - best access to media
I beg to differ. Proof positive you are wrong: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FUfj_TES98Q"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FUfj_TES98Q" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FsKAuuEIGUI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FsKAuuEIGUI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> They are simply irresistible!
LOL! Seriously, though most people didn't dress like that, the 70's gave way to platform shoes, bell-bottoms, pastels, polyester, and wide lapels. Now those were mainstream. Talk about a crappy look! And today's styles (or lack thereof) are even worse. The style now is sloppy, baggy, ragged, and layered. Young women now do almost nothing with their hair, almost no makeup, they're overweight, and they wear pants and flip-flops. The androgynous look is crap. 80's ruled!
I'm 33, and I'm with you, SC- we need to put the 80's to rest. They are nice to think about, but let's move on. For the record, I'd say that the 90's were the best decade music and style-wise. Grunge brought back REAL rock 'n roll. We saw the rise of good electronica. Even hip-hop really matured in the 90's. Style- we saw the 'plasticness' of the 80's lose it's grip with the grunge craze. It was a more relaxed time as well with the Democrats in power. We saw the rise of the internet. The markets were booming. The current decade is just kind of confused, like it's trying to rehash old styles and trends to find an identity. There is some GREAT music. There are old bands that should hang it up, IMO, but I won't get into that here. The only thing I really remember about the 70's was that they were dirty. I was born in 73, so my social awareness didn't come about until the late 70s. There was trash everywhere, the air was dirty, and the people were hairy and unkempt. The 80's may have been plastic, but at least they were clean.
Nope! You're not confusing the two. Cardi's was just outside the loop about a mile on Westheimer. The Roxy was right down the street just inside the loop again on Westheimer. If I got bored with one, I'd just head to the other. Cardi's was all rock whereas Roxy was new wave.
THe best thing about the 80's was being born at the end of 85, so therefore I don't actually remember them much. Although the cartoons were great.
Look I'm not saying there weren't good times in the '80's. I had a lot of great times in the 80's and have tons of stories about good times in the 80's. Afterall I was a teenager almost exactly the whole time during the 80's. What I'm saying is though is why keep on rehashing the 80's the music of the 80's when there was a lot of crap. Yeah yeah I know there was an underground scene, please I was listening to the Judys, Black Flag and REM when you could only here them on KTRU Rice Radio. The decade though isn't remembered for those bands. For every Dead Milkmen there are a lot more Poisons, A-Ha's and Apollonia 6's. I'm happy remembering house parties in West U, cruisin Westheimer and Ralph Sampson hitting that shot against the Fakers. Those were good times but there still was a lot of crap on the airwaves.
OK that was pretty cool but it wouldn't have been cooler with the Parliment Mothership landing at the end.
I definately prefer the streaked hair look, less makeup, hip huggers and flip flops over the big hair, pancake makeup, flat skirt with giant plastic belt, and legwarmer look of the 80's. As for overweight there were a lot of fat chicks in the 80's too.
