Shut up!!!!!! I am a huge Rockets fan, but u fans are so stupid. Brooks would be a better trade. Its not about getting attached. Its about losing a better player than what we could give up. WE HAVE LOWRY. i would take lowry as a starter than LEE.
I honestly can't believe there are people who are advocating not getting emotionally attached to the players on your favorite sports team. I mean, really? If you're not rooting for the players on that team, who the hell are you rooting for? The Rockets without players is nothing.... This is especially true considering the fact that we are always plagued by attendance issues at the TC. People need someone to root for. Regardless of whether you love(d) or hate(d) Yao, McGrady, Francis, Barkley, etc... they gave the team an identity and the fans someone to cheer for. If there is any "rant" it should be about the casual fan trying too hard to play GM and acting like everyone is just an "asset." If you love basketball, you should be emotionally attached to a team (or teams) and its players. It's crazy to think otherwise...
From the 2007-2008 season, only 3 current Rockets remain on the Roster today. (Chuck, Battier, and Yao.) They are also the only ones left from the 2006-2007 season and who had been coached under Van Gundy. From 2008-2009 only 6 Rockets remain from that roster (Battier, Hayes, Yao, Brooks, Scola, Lowry). with Lowry coming in right before the trade deadline. We've had a lot of roster changes in the past 2 seasons, and we all have adjusted to some favorite players that leave. If you were a fan 2 years ago, and still are today, it's because you are a ROCKETS fan or maybe just a YOF. You lose favorites and you gain favorites. I become attached to some players, which is normal and considering we always have a likable group, but it's more about the team. I'm allowed to mourn the loss of a favorite player, like Landry, because I'll get over it. I tried to watch some of his games with the kings, but that just wasn't amusing. I like players because they are on the Rockets. I have to say, the hardest ones for me to see go are the non-diva hard working ones. (Landry, Scloa, Lowry). They are the ones that make the game so fun to watch.
yea it is kinda hard to NOT get attached but in the case of K-Mart..hes barely a Rocket so i personally could care less if he left...thats of course if we get Melo.... in Morey we trust
Rocket fan base = Family i want the rocket get the best team ever that mean, not trading good talent for good talent, means carl landry for kevin martin type or tracy mcgrady for jordan hill and draft picks at the end i would be pleased with a trade like; fillers and draft picks for Carmelo Anthony and we having a staring lineup of Yao Ming Kevin Martin Aaron Brooks Luis Scola Carmelo Anthony if that makes me a fan and i liked so much that they become family hell yeah i'm a Mother....................... Fan
I really don't have a problem with fans falling in love with players. After all, we buy their jerseys, shoes and other merchandise with their name on it. What I have a problem with is when people use that as a reason not to trade someone. "Oh, he's a fan favorite", or "we can't trade him, he's a nice guy", or whatever. At the end of the day, what matters is what gets done on the court. If you put Kevin Martin side by side Carmelo Anthony and asked the 30 NBA GM's to take one of them, a good majority of them are going to take Melo, because he gives their team the best chance to win, which is something that is getting lost in all this conversation. Is Melo a chemistry killer? I don't know, but Yao being in and out of the lineup all year can disrupt the chemistry just as easily.
I didn't see any emotional attachment to Martin, actually I've seen alot people would want this trade to happen.
I hate to do this because I'm glad the guy is gone but T-Mac raised his game in the playoffs. On topic, I can't believe some people think Melo and Martin are basically equal. Every GM in the league would think otherwise. You would rather have Martin because YOU love the style he plays but its obvious we still need a go to guy, somebody that can create on his own. It is natural to get attached to players but I would trade ANY of them in a second if it gave us a better chance at winning a title. Btw, Melo does have a much higher shot output but also has a slightly higher shooting percentage.
Outside of business, the Coaches, Management, and Organization are also Lovable to an extent. Morey does his homework Well and trading players like Landry for Stars like Martin and Carmelo will only Payoff in my eyes to some extent after a Championship is WON!
What I don't understand is why anyone would be "attached" to a mediocre team. Like we're afraid of breaking up a championship team team, lol. The team as it is, is probably a 2nd round team at best. Getting Melo would be part of a bigger picture, even if it takes a couple of years to put the right complimentary players on the floor. At this point, it isn't worth doing that with a player that's only going to play 24 minutes.
Yeah, 'tis an interesting point. If we were to find out tomorrow that Morey had left for a GM position elsewhere, there would be panic among 90 percent of the members here -- er...including me...
There's no question Melo has more star power than Martin. But I think its not entirely clear which player would make this Rockets team better. With Yao coming back, perhaps its Martin. If Yao doesn't make it back, then seems more Melo. I just wonder if players like Melo have a ceiling as to how they can help a team. Just first thoughts.
I was just putting in perspective with the early beginnings of this site and it's tie in with the SOR campaign. The Rockets wouldn't mean as much to me personally if they moved. Probably the same thing that happened to the Oilers, apathy sets in because they no longer are in the city. I understand that's just from my perspective. I'm willing to bet though that past Rockets players would have a problem associating themselves with a new city for the Rockets. San Diego never had a chance to grow roots with the Rockets, but Houston on the other hand is rich with Rockets memories. Rudy T was a very vocal backer in keeping the Rockets in Houston. And anyways, you type in clutchfans without Houston and you'll get a bunch of sites about automotive parts. You type in Rockets without Houston and you'll get websites about NASA and such. The word Houston is very relevant in narrowing the search.
Its true, players come and go. But what I dont like about this thread is it advocates the sociopathic nutjubs and pseudo tough guys to get their attitudes in of "who f***in cares, suck it up" Just because you're unattached doesnt mean you're "level headed".
I don't see there is a problem about "too attached" to certain player, since there are also people out there on this forum are willing to trade Yao for Dampier in a heartbeat, so I say this is a well balanced diversity group of internet people here. Ha Ha
The whole idea that people are irrationally "attached" to players is quite exaggerated. It's not like most people here are advocating holding onto, say, Boki Nachbar instead of trading them for Carmelo Anthony because Boki is such a good guy and he got tough on Karl Malone once. There are actually good rational basketball reasons to like Kevin Martin. Maybe DD gets attached to his Wafers and Nachbars and Spanloulises, but we ain't talking about that **** here.
