Lol, I'm getting tired of fans overvaluing non-Rocket players and then trying to negate any arguement for keeping our own players by claiming "You're just too emotionally attached". No one on this board is without emotion in their opinion, otherwise they wouldn't be here.

Personally I'm happy if we keep the team as is. I'm concerned if we trade Martin for Melo, but going to stay on the bandwagon. I'm depressed if we trade Cbud or Scola, but I'll get over it.

I don't think Morey is evaluating this potential trade on stats alone. There's the psychological effect of having an elite player (whether real or perceived) that helps win and put fans in the seats.

And btw, I value those draft picks as well, which should be factored in. If we end up losing Yao for good, we're going to want those. The idea of watching Brooks, Martin, CBud improve is more exciting then seeing whether the Melo/Yao experiment is going to bomb or not.

Its not surprising at all considering all the love Sura got for a half a season.

People also need to realize that we are never going to gel as a team if we continually trade players for better ones.

it's not that I'm attached to Martin, but I feel like we would be better off to keep things how they are instead of swinging for the fences at every opportunity.

For the ones who say they don't care about Houston, a little reminder of why this BBS was created in the first place. Does anyone remember the Save Our Rockets campaign that Jeff was front and center for? That Clutch/Dave Hardisty created a website for that campaign? Well that became Clutchfans.

Once upon a time Les Alexander was threatening to move the team to Louisville Kentucky with David Stern's blessing citing The Compaq Center as outdated. The first arena referendum did not pass but thanks in part to Jeff and Clutch's efforts, the 2nd one did.

So yes the origin of this BBS has Houston written all over it, as it's main purpose initially was to keep the Rockets in Houston. Where would all of you be sharing your Rockets fandom if this BBS was not created?

As for the original topic of the thread, whatever is best for the team.

Wrong. Clutchfans started when Clutch was in College in 1996. SOR was something totally different that Jeff did.

    Edit

BTW, Clutch started it when he lived in Austin. Clutch didn't move back to Houston until about 5 year ago.

There is an easy solution to this......win!

    Examples:

    NFL
Mick Vick- when he first came back people were still complaining and bringing up his past. But after a GREAT showing in a recent Philly game there is a QB controversy in Philly LOL.

    NBA
Stephen Jackon- At the beginning of his last season in Golden State b4 the first game Jackson had some very negative comments to say about the organization. He was torn apart by fans and even booed during the introductions. At the end of that game he had score 30-40 pts. (can't remember lol) and the crowd was giving him a standing ovation.

And many others I can't think of. lol

Just win and everything else will take care of itself.

Most people value winning over all including popularity. If you win you will be popular lol!

SOR became part of Clutchcity.net from what I remember. There are old threads about Rallies and Jeff being on TV.

Clutch's residence is a moot topic to the campaign of keeping the Rockets in Houston, where I still say was a large part of the early beginnings of this site.

Joey was a 2nd rounder, cant consider that a bust, you either luck in or luck out on those 2nd rounders.

DA was a cheap risk, bleh.

TA? Wasnt a failure, but DM found a cheaper solution (in his eyes) and went for it. Doesnt make TA a failure. What if Martin was here the whole year (when TA stats started rising) then would have everyone thought he was a failure?

So you agree that we are getting too attached to Rockets players, but yet you yourself claim you have been too attached to Carl Landry...

I learned from my mistakes and I was pointing out that Martin wasn't even here long enough for me to have a sense of attachment to him in the first place.

Its not our fault that we draft and trade for good mannered, hard working players. Morery has great taste. Its kinda hard not to fall attached to our players.

I can honestly say that after the moses trade, my perceptions of players and management did as well. At 11 yrs old, i didn't understand how the mvp could be availible anyway. Now its really about the front of the jersey because earl who was pretty much washed up,warren moon, hakeem, and even a losing and entire franchise has desensitized me. As long as it makes the team better, I don't care.

DD, Melo to marting is not a lateral move no matter how many times you say it.

    Agreed

How many generic HOUSTON ROCKET Jerseys do you see people buying?
You know. . the ones without any player's name on it?

In Fact, Why not simply take the players names off uniforms

I know some folx will not be happy until we can simply replace them with machines

Not hostile. Just apathetic. From what I recall, saying "I don't give a **** about ..." puts emphasis on the lack of caring, not on the quality of the thing being referred to. And that's what I'm emphasizing. I know almost nothing about Houston other than the fact the Rockets happen to play there. Not who the mayor is, not how much the taxes are, not what the quality of life is. And there's no reason I should care. It's like if I liked Apple products a lot, and someone told me I should be a fan of Cupertino, CA because of it.

Then some hoity-toity people starting jumping on me about HOUSTON FTW !!!111!! lol . So I replied to them how I saw fit.

You're saying if the team hadn't stayed in Houston, there wouldn't have been a fan forum related to it? lol I guess none of the other teams in the country have fan forums....

When people google a place to discuss the rockets with fellow fans, do they google "City of Houston forums"?

I hear you. I was in my 20s when Moses was traded, and I think that was the first time I ever really had such an extreme, local-sports-related "I can't believe they did that" feeling. Over the long haul, it ended up being good for the team/fans, but I still recall the disappointment I felt.

I still don't like losing players who do well for the team (some, of course, hurt more than others and some I'm more neutral about), but your "desensitized" statement is exactly what happens to fans in today's pro sports market. We live with it and roll with the new team, but don't always like it.

But, when it comes to the point that we see players only as bargaining chips for new players, I think we lose some of what keeps us close to the joy of sports in the first place. I'm not against trades, but I am against constantly looking at players as "things/pieces/elements" rather than team and community members.
