Agreed. I'm from LA, and criticize me all you want, but the reason I love the team IS all the players on it.
This is the way I generally feel about it. The longer a player has been with the team and the more he's done for the team and for my enjoyment of the game as a fan, the harder it is to see him go elsewhere (whether via trade or free agency...or retirement, for that matter). The most hurtful of those player losses for me, personally, over the years have been for players who spent significant and/or good quality time with the team in question. I can name a bunch of them over the years whose parting hurt (Rockets, Astros, etc.). At the same time, with the trends in recent years, I've had to develop more of a thick skin and NOT let it hurt too much when it's done. But, I still feel that the gradual sense of relating to players who mean a lot to the team is a large part of what makes the game more enjoyable.
Yes it's a business, but you can't be making trades every off season to the point where no one feels like they have a home. To be glorious, like the lakers and spurs of this past decade, you have to have consistency in the roster.* *It also helps to have Timmy and Kobe, so if Carmelo is that good and much better than Martin, then go ahead and make the deal. But I don't want to hear more trade talks until Carmelo turns 34. Personally, I think that rick's system doesn't require the carmelos to function. A go to guy? Under his system, the go to guy is the man with the open shot. I have confidence that martin, yao, brooks and luis can hit a shot when needed. As for carmelo's ability to get to the line..if he's going to play in houston, he's not going to get the calls. If we trade for carmelo, all we would be getting would be seven more points and a cool twitter account. I would like it more if the rockets found a way to get Marc Gasol.
to be like the lakers and the spurs, you need GREAT players. you acquire those players and then put the pieces around them. right now, we don't have that kind of player on the roster. adelman's system hasn't cracked the NBA Finals without Clyde Drexler, one of the 50 greatest of all time, leading the way. i have more faith in superstars winning and contending for rings than adelman's system.
Team first, players second. In case you didn't notice this is Rockets fan forum not a Municipal Houston fan forum
There is nothing wrong with liking certain players more than others. Now the problem is when people like them so much, that this affectionate bias distorts the reality of the player's performance and causes the person to pointlessly cling to that player when another option that benefits the team more exists. I don't agree that Martin to Melo is a lateral move for the following reason: - While Martin is more efficient and gets to the foul line more, he is the type of player that plays within the system. He does not show the ability to put the game on his back and take over when necessary. Melo has done that many times with what I consider a worse team. - Melo may be only marginally better at D than Martin currently, but he has the physical tools and talent to be much better than Martin. He may be able to learn more from Lee and Hayes of how to defend better. - There is a reason that Melo is considered a legit All-Star and Martin a borderline All-Star. Melo is simply a better talent than Martin. - For those concerned with maturity issues, Melo has improved a lot and looks to improve even more. He is hardly a team killer like T-Mac, Marbury, or Iverson. He is also still very young and should mature as he grows older. If you are trying to judge him for the stupid things he has done, take a good look in the mirror first and fix your own issues. People can like players, but when they place a player above the team's best interest is when they need to roll the **** off the bandwagon and GTFO of town.
If carmelo anthony is that player then that's great, make that trade. The rockets played better than the mcnuggets against the lakers when it mattered.
If you are a true Rocket's Fan you love your team and it's players, especially the ones who are not bench warmers. Morey is just a recent attachment of the Rockets and has yet to form a true relationship of feeling with/for the team and its players.
I REALLY want to know who is batting 1.000..... Someone please make not of this, I know somehow it'll come back and be said that this was not something that would suffice with DD's standards. And I know somewhere there is a post stating that there is NO WAY we could trade Budinger for Melo, that would just be ubsurd.
Reeko is right though... There are far too many posters getting attached to players on this team. If Morey can land an Allstar talent in Melo, you need to make that move. I would rather give up Brooks but I don't see that happening unless there's a third team involved. I love Martin. He's been one of my favorite players in the league but I rather get a player that's healthy and has played pretty big in the playoffs. The whole argument on who plays better defensive is just totally crap. Neither one are great at it. My only problem with trading for Melo is you have to make a decision on what you plan on doing with Bud, Battier, and Jeffries. I know Bud can play the SG spot but how does Battier fit on this team with limited minutes?
Are you f**kin r****ded? "Houston Rockets" is a single possessive phrase, referring to the team. It has nothing to do with the city of Houston. If anyone gave a **** about the city of Houston, I guess we'd have threads on the parks and facilities, and taxes and **** in the GARM wouldn't we?
Look, chump... I've been a Rockets fan since they first graced our fair city. They are the HOUSTON Rockets. And hell yes, team first, and that team is the HOUSTON Rockets. Jesus H. Christ. I can't even believe I'm having this conversation. (insert a "roll-eyes" somewhere)
No, we wouldn't, because the GARM is for Game Action and Roster Moves. There is a forum where people discuss those types of things. In fact, there are two. The Debate & Discussion forum has a ton of discussions on local politics throughout the year and the Hangout has tons of discussions on Houston culture, food, parks and facilities, arts, etc. I am sorry you are unfamiliar with the board. I am equally sorry that you appear to be an incredibly foul mouthed, angry young man. Perhaps you should visit one of the Traditional Thai Massage parlors in Houston for a release of your stress?
wikiwiki is right (though I don't care for his tone). City doesn't have much to do with it, in my mind. There are Rockets fans all over the world. Its not because they have some attachment to the city of Houston. The Rockets are based in Houston, but being a Rockets fan doesn't mean I'm a fan of the city.
****** you you ****** you are such a ****** ugh I hate you you ****** *****! Go wash yourself in a bowl of *******! No just kidding. You are right of course, but I was amused by the outrage that wikiwiki was expressing. *****!
you know why it's about the city of HOUSTON? Because of the citizens of HOUSTON that make this team possible. I Pay my $50 to go to games. $50 on souvenirs and food to FUND the team! The international fans watch FREE illegal streams while I spend money to get FSN. Sounds like Houston has a lot to do with the money that's spent on the team.
