If equality is defined as "Women can freely do the same douchy s**t men have done for centuries* then there's little need for discussion, we've arrived at the single standard.

Some statistics claim its 60/40. Or 40% of the reported cases are men getting beat (in the UK).

Again media portrayals of man being imcompetent oafs while the woman has the brains and looks, not that big a deal cuz you gotta get COMEDIC material from SOMEWHERE. SOMEONE has to be full of fail for a source of laughs.

Its more the men are ALL PIGS and PERVS and PREDATORS fear mongering that needs to get dialed down some. Media CAN excerbate that tone on the easily influenced. They need to show the Deckard types more :)

Oh crap, I remember reading something about fathers portrayed in movies years ago. I finally remembered, it was Ebert back in 2003 comparing the old Cheaper by the Dozen movie to the remake.

The American male has been castrated for a long time now by the left and specifically the Feminazis. If any of you feel like your balls are being handed to you, feel free to contact me, I can help.

Around the Esteban's household, it is being run like a Ludus Magnus. Mr Esteban(that's me) is Batiatus and Mrs Esteban is Lucretia. Mrs Esteban adores and respects Mr Esteban, she will never make him look bad in public or private. Mrs Esteban has the knowledge that Mr Esteban will lay down his life to protect and defend Mrs Esteban.

One time Mrs Esteban brought home a newly hired staff(an administrative assistant). Mr Esteban was watching a Rocket game and told Mrs Esteban " Honey, go into the kitchen and make me a sandwich". Mrs Esteban happily fulfilled the request, the staffer however took an exception to that and asked Mrs Esteban " why do you let your husband order you around like that?".

Mrs Esteban, needless to say was not thrilled with this staffer and told her do not bother to report for work on Monday.

Mrs Esteban is not some kind of uneducated, unskilled, stay at home wife. She has an MBA from Cornell and is an executive with an oil & gas corporation, brings home boatload of money. Mrs Esteban understood full well that in order to have a stronger society, a stronger nation, the American male has to have his balls back that was taken from him years ago.

    Carry on!
    Esteban

I agree generally with the OP's sentiment. In American media, men are generally shown as macho, bad guys, or buffoons. The Cary Grant roles are few and far between. I think that is part of the allure of Mad Men. It portrays the masculinity without machismo (or too much evil) that is often lacking in current American media.

Unfortunately it's true for a high percentage of men. I have guys I work with who's wife dressed them each morning. She lays out the clothes he is to wear that day. She also packs his bags. I remember coming home from a business trip and the guy wasn't sure which bag was his at the airport because it was black, and his wife bought and packed it for him so he never paid attention. Sadly, married middle aged men do become slaves of their wife. These men go to work, make the money, do some chores around the house on weekends and if they want to do anything extra, they make jokes like "I'll have to ask the boss (wife)" as if it's cool. I've seen in a hundred times. The woman actually does run things in most marriages and the guy is the dumb mule with his tongue out hoping to get a piece once or twice a week if he's lucky. It's really pathetic.
