Wow, I don't know what to say. You really believe this? If we didn't have insurance, what do you think would motivate people to pay for the accidents they cause? Lawsuits would go through the roof. There are thousands of accidents a day...can you imagine the insane case load it would put on the court system?
california is in a crisis i guess. $446 is the standard here in SF. it's a little cheaper down south (high $300). i wouldn't complain if the ticket was $75.
Where in SF do they have streetlight cams? In LA, they are popping up everywhere, but I have been up here in SF for 15 months and I haven't seen any cams?
the way the cameras are set up in SF is completely different down in socal. in socal, you can spot them literally and thus know to be more cautious at the intersection. SF's streets and traffic are ridiculous and they put the camera lights at the worst places. i got ticketed on 5th and market downtown, basically the busiest of all streets with a bunch of bikers riding recklessly (i got flashed b/c a dude just cut b/t me and the muni bus literally at the intersection forcing us to stop -> i'm considering an appeal right now).
sounds to me like this girl and yourself were doing a little more than driving while you were trying to park. That is SICK sir, had you been less lewd in public and you concentrated more on parking none of this woulda happened. Poetic. Justice.
I doesn't seem like it would serve its purpose as a deterrent if the ticket is cheap enough that one doesn't complain. You are not supposed to run red lights. It is supposed to hurt when you get caught doing it. Or so says this cranky old man that really hates reckless drivers.
in SoCal it was $380 and it has been raised to $436. I received one in November and one in April under each penalty. the first one I was trying to beat the yellow light and got caught on Wilshire in Beverly Hills. the second one was my error: I looked up and saw the yellow light but was not able to estimate how much time I had. I didn't speed up or slow down and got caught in the intersection when the flash went off. this was on washington blvd. in culver city. the problem is, I just can't afford $800+ worth of tickets and I don't have the time to do the community service in lieu of a fine (48 hours) or a 12 hour defensive driving course to erase the ticket from the record. I had previously had a clean record for over 10 years and have had these tickets on the back of my mind for a year now... I don't like these Arizona based red-light traffic ticket companies to say the least. FYI- I learned that the cameras go off when a vehicle crosses the white line after the red light goes off, but only if the car is going over 12 mph through the intersection.
sucks for you my man. the ticket was my first one EVER. to add, you need TWO flashes. one flash i think serves you as a warning. i've had 2 one flash before and never got a ticket.
there's no warning system. the two flashes are from the front (your face) and back of your vehicle (your license plate). you probably got past the white line after the redlight went off and someone reviewed the incident and let if go. the pictures are sent to the police department in whatever jurisdiction and a live video is analyzed and the ticket is generated by the local jurisdiction.
Damn, I rented a Zipcar yesterday and was driving around the same area (Union Square, Market St, etc.). Hope I didn't run a red one...
I got a red light ticket on 3rd and Harrison last year. Cost me $410, which is ridiculous. I know the cameras are all up and down Harrison, and I think there's one off Octavia and California I believe. None that I know of out here in North Beach, however.
Driving in SF is pain in the rear. Now, I am still trying to figure out how "getting out later and scratch a bumper and above a little" of a CLK land you a $1800 settlement. What did you exactly do?
