Since you said that you were not "stupid" enough to leave packages in a car, that implies that anyone who does is "stupid". I have great car insurance. The problem is that rates tend to rise when thieves steal your car or your stuff and not just for me, for eveybody. In addition, insurance companies may drop you if you have too many claims even if the claims don't involve reckless driving. So how would you handle the following situation on "black friday"? Best Buy has the laptop you want. Target has the PS3 you want. Sam's has the TV, stereo and iPod you want. All of these stores are 15 miles from your house and within a couple of blocks of each other. Are you really going to drive back and forth to your house rather than leave your purchases in your car? And I am very "touchy" about thieves.
dude, chill the hell out...get some thicker skin if you can't handle constructive criticism. have you never done even 1 stupid thing in your entire life? that's what you're acting like all we're saying is to use some common sense. if it's too much of a hassle for you to do so in every situation (which is somewhat understandable), then that's your business. you can either drive a car with a trunk when it's shopping time, or yeah...actually go back and drop it off at home between stops
oh yeah, and as far as your vacation scenario... part of my point in this thread is that Houston is *specifically* a sh!thole for this kind of stuff. when I go on vacation, it's usually to places where I wouldn't worry about it =P
Oy oy oy. I'm not TRUSTING ENOUGH to leave things in my car. I'm a paranoid lady. I have good car insurance too, so it looks like we both don't have any problem with that and can be in a club together. Easy. We have a big family that happens to live very close to each other. I would goto one store while the others went to the other stores go wait in line, so we would all get what we wanted and we wouldn't get robbed. Plus, black friday involves waiting in line to get the good deal, so if it was just me... I would probably only be able to get to one of the stores in time for the good deal. but seriously you would drive from store to store with possibly thousands of dollars of merchandise in your car? Someone could be watching you and waiting for you to goto the next store so they can rob you. And I am very "touchy" about thieves.[/QUOTE]
FYI, car insurance won't cover personal items stolen out of the vehicle. Make sure you have home owner's insurance or renter's insurance for that.
Crap...I shouldn't have gone into this thread. I just remembered that the last time I read a thread here about someone's car being broken into, my car got broken into at work that afternoon.
I agree, common sense should be used and if you read my initial post in this thread, you would have seen that I also said the person who was robbed should NEVER be told it was their fault. I don't care if they leave a laptop on the front seat and the windows down. It is always the fault of the thieves.
It seems unfortunate that folks should have to make their vacation plans that way. In that case, I suppose no one should ever vacation in Houston.
Keep your eyes on Craigslist and eBay for next couple weeks. In our school someone stole a guitar from an dorm, and he was stupid enough to sell it on craiglist, and the owner found the ad, and contacted the police. They caught him with a setup buy.
My sister learned this the hard way. We'd always been meaning to get renters insurance (we share an apartment) but never really felt pressure to do so. Then one day her car was gone and so were her personal items. But in talking to our neighbors and warning them about it, we found out our neighbors had a laptop go missing from their apartment as well as a few other things. Now we have renters insurance - a day late and a dollar short. But if something does happen again, at least we'll be covered.
The Sharpstownification of the West/SW side continues unabated. It was not like this 10, hell 5, years ago.
Wow. I have 3 sisters and none of them are "afraid" of the mall or are nervous when they go there. I don't feel any anxiety about going there, either. West Oaks Mall is NOTHING like Sharpstown. Unless you equate all areas with a high level of non-white population, that is.
It's not really a tough thing. Unless you're scared of people who look different there's nothing to separate West Oaks from, say, First Colony. Are people you know scared to goto First Colony?
I'm not talking about malls, haven't been to either in over a decade. I'm talking about the areas in general.
Ahh, I see. I still think it's light years away from Sharpstown but the area has been declining recently.
