This. I think there might be a cultural thing you don't know about.

Do you look like a gypsy?

I'm just here to have a word with the Danish cartoon guy. I heard he's getting an award or something. :p

Seriously though, I'm not here on vacation (family medical emergency) and don't really have time to do much, otherwise I'd be up for it (not the beer and pork obviously lol).

I'm in Freiburg which seems to be a gorgeous city, but I've only been within a 3 km radius of my apartment. I might be able to get around in 10 days time or whenever ATW leaves the country. I'll try to take a trip to Edenkobben, I have a friend there who I really want to catch up with.

Here's a question: what's up with the outright OBSESSION with sparkling water in this city?

That was a backhanded way of asking if you have brown skin or are obviously a Muslim since Germans are known to discriminate against Jews, and Gypsies in the past and brown skin immigrants now.

Gypsy is just a fun word.

Sorry to hear about the family medical emergency. I hope all will be well, you are a Clutchfans brother.

Freiburg is a very nice little student town, known as one of the "greenest" (as in ecologically conscious) cities in Germany.

You mean sparkling table water? That is not specific to Freiburg. It is the way we drink table water in Germany, which I think has to do with the many natural springs we have. Completely different in the USA, and most other places. If you want non-sparkling, you pretty much have to explicitly say it: "Stilles Wasser bitte."

I know Edenkoben, it is not too far from where I grew up.

lol I know, I thought I'd play along.

The dude definitely knew I'm not German, and am probably from the Middle East (or somewhere there).

I don't know how he'd figure out I'm Muslim unless he just assumed it.

I was in Frankfurt and I have to say... Freiburg is WAAAAAAAAAY more friendly to me (and my family). They're genuinely more curious and extremely friendly, whereas in Frankfurt there was a bit of a different atmosphere.

I don't know how to explain it other than I generally know from experience the difference between overzealousness and genuine indifference.

It's just the vibe of the city. It's different. Frankfurt is a lot more hectic and business-minded. Freiburg is a friendlier town (much smaller).

    Thanks, highly appreciated.

It is definitely a nice town to be, and I had heard about it being a student town. I generally hate big-city life, so this seems to be a fantastic place.

You can tell it's a very green place as well. There are SO many bicycles, you can't find plastic bags anywhere, everything is in PET bottles and it is one of the cleanest cities I've ever been to, etc..

It's not just table water! Even at the hospital, there are no coolers for normal water, but there's a cooler for sparkling water on every corner. Still mineral water is a SPECIAL REQUEST here lol. Some of the water is more expensive than beer here lol. Good fun.

I don't know much about Edenkoben except that it's wine-country. Should be nice.
