We all know that this team needs a bonafide superstar and not just "all-star caliber" players as Morey would put it. That will always be on the back burner. However, in the spirit of always trying to improve this team, what do you guys think we need? My ranked order would be: 1) Backup 7 footer who is a good post defender Craig Smith, Tiago Splitter, etc. They all abuse us in the low block. Too bad we lost one of the best post defenders in Hayes. I would offer the Kings a package built around Hill or Bud to bring him back if we could. Any other stout post defenders out there? 2) above average starting SF Parsons is doing ok but is one of the worst starting SFs in the league. Chase is a fringe starter that does not fit well with Martin/Scola. Marcus is at least a season away from being a true contributor. I wonder if Dallas would be interested in opening more cap space by trading us Odom for Thabeet and TWil. Odom would be a great fit at SF for us and it would allow us to move move Bud/Hill for Hayes. 3) playmaker off the bench Dragic is great as a scoring guard. However, he is not a traditional pg that controls the game and gets his teammates involved. that is why lowry often plays alongside dragon. getting a pg who can run the offense would allow for lowry to play less minutes (hopefully around 30 a night) and conserve his energy to be more effective. 4) the eXciting factor toyota center has been pitiful and even the interest of china has been slowly going away post yao. we really need to have more interest generated either by winning or getting an exciting type of player. my suggestion to les would be to invite yao to be part owner of the rockets and therefore keep him involved in the franchise. chairman yao fits the bill. that way we can retain some interest until we start winning big again. what do you guys think we need?
#1 Common Sense from the owner on down. #2 A leader that has above average skills on both ends of the floor. #3 True athleticism not a few white guys that can jump but aren't quick or fast laterally.
Some more draft picks. 1st rounders and some loss of veterans to help raise the pick for us. New york Knicks to keep losing. The development of Patterson into our starter.
No, I'll tell you what we need. We need some 6th man scoring. We can't execute down the stretch. We need shooters to space the floor much better (we have god awful spacing) and a more competent coach.
We need a whole new team. New team, new owner, new GM, new uniforms, new logo, new court, new arena, new fans, new coaches, new players, new D-League affiliate, new everything.
Star wing player. Love Kevin Martin, but he isn't the player the rockets need with the current coach. We need a legit 4, Scola slowing down and a slew of role players behind him that are not ready to be a starter at the 4. We need better scouts. Scrape the entire analytical department and revamp it. Something obviously isn't working the way people are seeing it on paper. If the players they scout can't create mismatches at a high rate, the houston rockets don't need them. Something the scouts and analytical department I feel like are overlooking.
Better scouts might work. It worked for the Texans and they didnt need to remove the GM to get results in the last draft that netted them Reed, Watt, signed Johnathan joseph, and Danieal Manning.
1. Number 1 go to scorer. A PF who can draw doubles and create for him self down low and create for others too while putting up 20/10 nightly. (Centers like that are too hard to find, but PFs like that would be easier) Doesnt have to be super athletic but MUST NOT BE UNDERSIZED. 2. Number two go to scorer. A SG who can create for him self and others. Must be play to off the ball as well. MUST NOT BE UNDERSIZED. 3. 2-Way SF who can guard leagues best wings and has some offensive game - open shots, pull up jumpers, finish strong at the rim. MUST BE AT LEAST 6'8 and ATHLETIC. 4. Starting quality 6th Man. A guy who can provide instant offense of the bench. 5. A solid back up 5 who can be used to start if SammyD goes down. Must be at least 7 foot. Lowry and Sam are fine at 1 and 5 to support the 3 above. Dragic, Lee, Parsons, Patterson are fine role players to keep for depth.
