I meant a Silver Surfer movie that is more specifically dedicated to his exposition. A script exists but the guy who wrote it said he doubted that the movie would be produced.
Mclady spoke. Yeah. All Ang Lee movies are totally one dimensional with card board cut out characters. How the hell is this idiot keep on getting nominated and winning Oscar and the Golden Globe awards? Mclady the hypocrite:
The problem with Silver Surfer is the same problem I think they are going to have with a live action Thanos and Guardians of the Galaxy. These guys have cosmic powers. They are too powerful imo for a screen adaptation to be easily accepted by an audience. I think it's a problem with Superman too. He's so powerful it's hard to show that on screen. They lend themselves better imo to cartoons. I really think Marvel is missing the boat with their limits animated releases. If I were Marvel I'd get an adult animated show going for Guardians of the Galaxy and would start releasing animated films at a faster clip straight to DVD.
Spider-Man, X-Men and all the others were made by different studios. It's worth ranking just the movies that Marvel Studios have made. They were all crafted by the same company and involve all the same producers.
That's why if you're a smart director you will try to separate movies from comics and tone it down just a notch. Anyway this is more fantasy base than hard science fictions so it's pretty easy for people to have suspension of disbelief. My only problem are guys like Capt., Black Widow or Hawkeye competing with the 100 ton class super heroes or villains. Getting that right is a tricky part and Whedon did a good job on The Avengers to balance them out.
Why I personally did not enjoy Hulk (Bana, Lee): 1) I felt the film strayed too far from the comics mythology for my taste a) The entire pre-origin story with his father. b) His father becoming Absorbing Man c) Glenn Talbot's character 2) the Gamma Dogs were just plain dumb 3) I felt the exposition was far too drawn out and dominating for a franchise in which 95% of the public knows perfectly well how he became Hulk. I think this is something that studios just don't get. Quit boring us with what we already know. #1 complaint about the recent Spiderman reboot is that they're redoing the origin story AGAIN. Get to the meat. 4) The King Kong-esque San Francisco face off 5) The final battle (really plagues half the Marvel films) was a hot mess What I did like about the first: 1) Jennifer Connelly 2) An emphasis on the daddy issue, which was something I really enjoyed about Peter David's run on the series. I especially like the flashback scene(s) of him as a kid when his parents fought. Hulk (1) appeared to be a victim of Warner-esque studio visionless rewrite hell, and a poster child for why folks are happier with the in house Marvel productions. I agree with this, and there's nothing that would prevent them from making a cartoon/pure CGI film that would be canon to the live action ones. Already, they're able to cover a lot more ground with the Avengers cartoon than they could ever hope to do in the live action franchise.
Liked all your stuff about Hulk. Also think your point about CGI/cartoon film being cannon is good. Think you could do a good canon CGI/Animated series as well. Put it on something other than Saturday morning cartoons though. I think with cosmic powers (Quasar, Thanos!) you can do so much more with animation than you can with real life. I always thought Age of Apocalypse was tailor made for a dark cartoon.
