With the amount of hype this draft got, what a huge disappointment. Oden - Cant even stay on the court. bust FOR NOW Durant - Superstar. Franchise player Horford - Borderline All-Star player Conley- bust Green - overrated, decent Yi - bust Brewer - bust Noah - surprised me. thought he would be a bust. Hawes - ok. Law - bust Young - ok. Wright -bust Thornton - ok. Stuckey - not impressed by him. ok we are lucky to have Morey. he drafted two top ten players this draft
I think your list overall was pretty good. The actual rankings of the players may need to be adjusted. The fact you picked up on Marc Gasol is very insightful as very people would have thought of Marc Gasol (including myself). Marc Gasol is probably the best "healthy" Center in the West if you peg his brother into the PF spot.
WTF how do you rank player at the 2 spot that hasn't played more than 40 games in the past 2 years...??
Injuries have a big effect on production, right? Oden has produced exactly zero in the 164 games he's missed in 3 seasons.
Production? You can't produce if you're not on the court. I mean, hell, if that's the case, Ralph Sampson is top 10 of all-time! He was great when he played.
Conley is a huge bust. people were comparing him to chris paul. my top 5 is: 1) Durant 2) Noah - best defensive and rebounding big 3) Horford 4) Gasol 5) Stuckey - Ahead of brooks since i think he has a higher ceiling
Jeff Green is far from an all star. He has a lot of flaws and has disappeared at times but this is a list of the top 10 players from the '07 draft. Guy has still averaged 15 points on the best young team in the NBA. To put Thad Young on that list over him is, at the very least, peculiar.
Oden's ranking in this thread depends on the criteria. If the basis for the ranking is the players' performance in their first three years, then sure, Oden would rank fairly low on the list (even though he was pretty effective in those rare instances where he was healthy). However, if the basis for the ranking is "how would the draft order go if the draft were re-done today?" Then, I think Oden still goes high. Even with his terrible injury history, teams will be willing to gamble on him. His defense presence is amazing and could (if healthy) anchor a championship defense. I'd definitely use a top 10 pick on Oden right now, just for the CHANCE that he plays. With that said, here's my 2007 "re-draft" order: 1. Kevin Durant 2. Al Horford 3. Joakim Noah 4. Marc Gasol 5. Aaron Brooks 6. Greg Oden 7. Jeff Green 8. Carl Landry 9. Rodney Stuckey 10. Tiago Splitter 11. Thaddeus Young 12. Rudy Fernandez 13. Corey Brewer 14. Glen Davis
This is pretty spot on. Most of you need to stop basing your hopes and expectations and "scouting" on what you think a player "can" do versus what he actually does.
Huh? Production is correlated to health/lack of injuries. If he can't play on the court how can he stay healthy? Also I disagree with Bimathug about Oden's rank if this were a redraft. Teams will gamble on him? Really? Oden has been injured for 3 years now, its not like his injury was a one hit wonder like Blake Griffin's and there's a good chance he'll be healthy. Sure teams will take him....as a low lotto pick. There is no way in hell GMs will take a guy like Oden who's been injured for 3 straight years, if he ends up injured again everyone will pile on him. My redraft: 1. Durant 2. Marc Gasol (He IS what oden should have been) 3. Al Horford 4. Joakim Noah 5. Aaron Brooks 6. Tiago Splitter 7. Jeff Green 8. Rudy Fernandez 9. Thadeus Young 10. Carl Landry 11. Rodney Stuckey 12. Glen Davis 13. Greg Oden 14. Corey Brewer
Amazing really when you think from the low picks we had this draft basically netted us Brooks and Martin(via Landry of course). Rockets did the best outta this draft besides Thunder obviously. Don't under rate Horford either... he has gotta be ahead of Gasol and Noah.. lot more of an all round game than those two for a big man.
