BTRW, Scola stats are evaluated under limited minutes due sharing with Landry the PF spot, when Landry was traded, he was practically a 20/10 PF...and in the 09 playoff, he had the same stats per minutes, playing alongside Yao and Landry.... What happens is that he will take less minutes or a minor role for the sake of the team, but that doesn't mean he can't give you 20/10 regularly at PF if he's given the minutes and a more important role in offense, like other PF that many place ahead him, receive on their teams....
scola top ten IMO he works hard and he can compete with the likes of gasol bosh and sometimes even dirk both defensively and ofensively
And our team wasn't bad last year right??? We can discredit their stats but count our players stats cuz we had a good team Ans made the playoffs?? Give me a f'n break..
...this is solely based on last year's performance and team performance.. calm down.... statistically speaking he was the leader in points ... Maybe his last year among the Top 10 until he can repeat that, he will slip to 18.
IMO... Brooks - top 15 Martin - top 8 Ariza - 17-20 range Scola - top 8 Yao - top 3 (Howard, Yao, B. Lopez) imo...
YAO #1 SCOLA #1 BROOKS #1 MARTIN #1 BATTIER #1 HAYES #1 LOWRY #1 BUDDINGER #1 PATTERSON #1 MILLER #1 TAYLOR #1 HILL #1 Jeffries #2 Ariza #2
Martin might crack top 5 - to be honest there are not too many super elite shooting guard talents after Kobe, DWade, and BRoy. I'd say Martin is comparable to AI2. Of course when 3s play the 2, this is no longer the case
Even last year when Martin's numbers were way down from his career averages he was a top 5 SG. He's going to be a beast next year. The Houston Kings are going to be a beautiful thing to watch.
Rankings are too judgemental, Martin is a really good fit for the Rockets system which is why we over value his rankings. Offensively he is easily between 5-10 range, but defensively he's probably the worst now that most teams play a defensive specialist at the SG position. So if you factor in both offense and defense I'd rank him somewhere in the middle of the pack maybe 15. So asking to rank just individual players throwing out a system is like askign who can beat who 1 on 1 and I think a lot of SG in the league can beat Martin 1 on 1.
I disagree. Small Forward is a strength position in the NBA. It is not as strong as PG, but its alot closer to PG than SG or C. Also, why should age or contract factor into this? This is about ranking the top players not their contract or potential. Ariza is a decent defender but he is not elite, and the fact that he is terrible offensively drops him into a league with Dunleavy as opposed to Iguodala. Right now, Ariza doesn't measure up to alot more players than you listed. Ex: Gerald Wallace, Josh Howard, Shawn Marion. All better defenders than Ariza. Then there are tweeners like Lamar Odom who play a little 4 with the 3 or a little 2 with the 3 who would also likely rank above Trevor.
I would say some here are overrating Kevin Martin quite a lot. I think stat wise Martin may crack a top 5 ranking, but he has failed to be determinant to their teams the way Kobe, Roy, Wade and Ginobili are to theirs. If you look at PER numbers he doesnt crack the top 10. I might have to wait one season with us before saying were he stands in the league.
I'm kind of a KM12 homer, but he's a top 5 SG in the league after: 1. kobe 2. dwade 3. broy 4. jjohnson 5. kmart It's hard to give AB a lot of point guard love because he's a mediocre passer (though certainly not a bad one) and a great scorer. He's a top 15 scorer in the league, but not a top 10 PG. Better than average though.
Don't use arbitrary numbers. Name players you would take over Martin. Kobe Wade Roy Johnson Ginobili then... Everybody after that is a reach. Even Ginobili is questionable. He doesn't even play 30 minutes a night any more.
Both of those guys were better than Parker last year. And really, Brooks play, especially post trade when his assist numbers went up, are on par with Parker's normal averages. Parker has always been a 16-20 PPG 5-6 assists guys. He's had a couple years where his PPG or AST numbers were over that, but that's been his average, and that's right where Brooks is.
Gerald Wallace is better than Ariza, but not Howard or Marion. Age is a factor because how they performed last year is not what we care about; we care about what is to come, and Ariza stands to improve where Howard and Marion have only a future of sitting on the couch in their purview. Contract is a factor because frankly if we had a guy like Butler we would not be able to afford a host of other guys.
