It's exciting to add a wing defender that plays at the level TA is capable of; however, it's not like the west is loaded with swingmen who will beat up on you with the exception of KD. The west is heavy with point guards (fortunately, we have a capable defender at the 1 in Beverley), and power forwards (where we still are suffereing from a glaring weakness defensively. TA will help us minimizing the chance that a role player or middle tier player on the wing goes bananas vs the rockets (as was the norm last year), but the obvious improvement we need is at the PF defensively.

you're right, we acquired Ariza after losing ron artest to free agency; otherwise, the intent was to make him a piece, not THE piece

still think he'll do fine this upcoming year, looking forward to it in fact as I was a season ticket holder in 2009-10 and thought he had a lot of potential if pared with the right team-mates. Get a second chance as D12/Harden ~ Yao/Mac

Ariza's defense is better than Parsons's defense, but it isn't elite either. Playing with Howard should make him look better, though.

It's elite when it matters. In the playoffs with the Lakers, he'd shut down whoever he was guarding.

I'm not concerned with what he can do, but what he would do in non contract yrs.

Well, I am glad we have a `coach` for the defense. McHale should leave him dictate the defense. Heck, he can't do a worse job than McHale!
