Forgive my ignorance since I am new, but what does this making a trade scenario do?

Funny how Hinrich seemingly regressed once the Bulls drafted another PG with the #1 overall pick and handed him the starting spot. Weird how Hinrich's points, assists and even minutes per game seemed to decline when there was a young future superstar dropped into his starting PG spot. Odd how Kirk's reputation as a creator on offense took a hit after the Bulls took the ball out of his hands and put it in Derrick Rose's hands.

Yes, Hinrich is a JVG-type of player. But he's also an Adelman-type of player. Do you think Rick Adelman DOESN'T like players who can defend and hit the 3? Plus, Kirk can handle the ball, run the floor, and move without the ball. Sure, Kevin Martin is a better offensive player (but a far inferior defender), and I would welcome that trade if the Rockets can net a 25 ppg scorer like Martin. But I don't think the likelihood that such a deal will happen is all that great. THIS trade, on the other hand, is much more likely to be done by each of the three teams. Unlike 99.999% of proposed trades on this BBS, this trade would actually benefit (or at least cater to the goals of) all teams involved.

You make a good case, but I'd like to see the Rockets get a little more for McGrady, and I have confidence Morey can make that happen. McGrady's large, expiring contract is very valuable, and I think the player himself will still have a lot of value after he returns from injury. I think he'll make the Rockets better. Hinrich does have a lot of those qualities the Rockets like -- and it's those players who make the Rockets so much better than they appear -- but I'd like to see them get more of a scorer for McGrady, even if the player is more one-dimensional. The age factor is way overrated. Whoever they end up getting for McGrady doesn't have to be young, as long as he's a good fit, with the right skills and at least a few good years ahead of him.

lol we won't have a legitimate chance at signing LBJ. He is not coming here lol..

Anyway...I am not for this trade. To me it really don't fill any major weakness of this team. after this season, we need a scoring wing, a reliable scorer. I would look at trading shane.

It's hard to blame his "sudden" regression on Rose whenever his production began to slide well before Rose was even in the picture. Last year with Rose and Gordon hogging major minutes, it makes sense that a dual backcourt player like Hinrich would have to take a backseat to the better players. Okay. So why does he suck this year too? With Gordon out of the picture and Rose creating looks for him this should be his year to breakout and prove that he's worth all the money he's getting. I'm still waiting for him to prove he's capable of resurrecting his career and he's not off to a good start. You're going to kill me for saying this, but at this point how much better is Hinrich than a Charlie Bell type? Before you kill me, keep in mind that Bell makes less than half of what Hinrich makes. You're not going to like that comparison but Hinrich has done little to prove to me he's anything more than just an overpriced glue guy at this point.

I agree that the Kevin Martin "rumors" are almost certainly too good to be true. The idea that the Maloofs would fork over to us yet another big named star seems very unlikely given how badly we robbed them in the Artest trade. All the same, I try to remain optimistic and given that we haven't heard much on the trade front this season, it's kind of hard to not use the Kevin Martin example as a barometer for which to measure all the other trade propositions.

Who says Kirk Hinrich can shoot it all that well?

    Kirk Hinrich/Rafer Alston career stats

    MPG-34/29
    PPG-14/10
    APG-6/5
    RPG-3/3

    FG%-42/39
    3-pt FG%-38/36

That is average at best, and not something I would want to pay nearly 30 million doll hairs for. And for the next 3 years! **** no!

I don't get it ... why does everybody wants to trade T-Mac? The team is doing well at this point without him and if he comes back 2 things that can happen: or we become even better with T-Mac or the team plays worser.

We should keep T-Mac and see what happens this season ... and by the way after this season we still have THE FA class of 2010!

Come on Bima, a random trade thread from you?

Back to topic, you want to trade Tmac, who could be the saviour of the team at best or a 23m expiring at worst for what?

An overpaid backup player, an overpaid end of bench player and quite possible a high 20s pick from a draft 3 years from now?

No matter how good kirk is, he will be the 3rd PG or the 2nd SG in the rotation. He will not start especially seeing how well AB and Lowry is playing.
He could get some minutes at the 2 spot, but that will only reduce playing time for Chase.

Jeffries who might crack the rotation? Well he is tall, and he plays a little defense. But can you see him in front of the glut of PFs? Can you see him taking minutes from battier/ariza/chase?

and a pick that is 3 years from now? Those type of picks is only gathered to sweeten the trade, not as the main component of the trade.

Rox did not improve this season, nor next season, nor the season after that. And all this just to get Tmac out?

My random ideas on Tmac? I'm not Morey, so i cant say, but if i have a try it be as below.

As some have said, GSW is looking for a trade partner, Sjax and Randolf. That certainly looks better Kirk and Jefferies. Sjax have a long contract, but its only 2 years longer than yaos. Then it be a bloated contract that is expiring. Randolf potential have already been discussed at other threads, so i will not do it here.

Another option would be Philly. That enormous contract of Elton Brand. He looks real bad in that philly jersey. Especially after surgery. He just did not fit that system. But could he do better here? And maybe rox could take Acic Low as well.

Memphis anyone? I take Randolf. This time for his huge contract(17m) that comes off along with Yao. And say what you want. 19ppg and 10rpg is not something to laugh at. Defensive wise, its not that huge of a drop off from Scola, Landry and Anderson.

Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you. But I will totally disagree with you about the Charlie Bell comparison.

For those complaining about Hinrich's career 38% 3-point shooting, keep in mind that he has NEVER played with a post player who commanded a regular double-team. If he were playing alongside Yao Ming (hell, even Luis Scola!), Hinrich would routinely get much better looks than he gets in Chicago. What do you think Rafer's 3-point percentage would be had he not played with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady?

And, guys, unless you are somehow related to Les Alexander and stand to receive an inheritance, what do you care about Hinrich's salary??? Remember, if the Rockets want to keep Scola, Lowry, Battier, Hayes and Landry, then they likely won't be using their cap space. A player can be added with the MLE and make about as much as the Rockets could have offered with their limited cap room. Les saves $15M with this proposed trade, so he'd be more willing to pay luxury tax for at least one year (both Battier and Jeffries come off the books in 2011) in order to contend. Better to have an overpaid Hinrich who fits perfectly with this team than to "settle" for 2 or 3 more "David Andersen-type" signings.

So we agree that Kevin Martin is most likely just wishful thinking? Understandably, the rumor and limited additional trade speculation is making many look at Kevin Martin as the "bar" for a McGrady deal. If they can get Martin, then great. Disregard my trade idea. But I just don't see the Kings being that stupid . . . again. THIS trade idea is realistic and works.

Oh, and for those who say that the Rockets should wait and see how McGrady fits into this team, I completely agree with all of you. I am not advocating that Morey make this trade TODAY. This is simply a realistic fallback option if (a) McGrady and the Rockets definitely want a divorce AND (b) no star players are available. Take (yet) another look at my assumptions at the top of the OP.

    Nets: McGrady + Landry + Taylor + Cook + rights to Eliyahu + $3M
Rockets: Lopez + expiring filler (Simmons + Battie + Hassell)

*Nets are around $12M under the tax
*Rockets cut team salary by $5.6M to get under the tax

A frontcourt consisting of Yao, Lopez, and Scola would be the deepest/best frontcourt in the league? Provided Yao can make it back of course.

In 2010 FA Nets potentially have around $33M of cap space:

    Harris
    Lee, Taylor
T.Williams, (McGrady or $13M free agent)
    LeBron, Landry
    Yi

That's a very enticing group of players the Nets's russian billionaire owner and Jay-Z can sell as teammates to LeBron.

    worzel, come on, now!

This trade essentially amounts to Brook Lopez for Carl Landry. There is no freakin' way that New Jersey makes that deal. Quality centers are very hard to come by, and the Nets probably have one of the top 6 or 7 centers in the league for the next decade in Lopez. Why would they trade him for a power forward, especially when players with Landry's skill set are not that uncommon?

McGrady is going to comeback. I'm just not a believer that he'll get the Rockets anywhere.

For the Nets he's another chip to lure LeBron or even Wade or Bosh. They can GUARANTEE to those guys that they'll be able to sign another big name whether it's McGrady or not.

Unfortunately, the Nets would NOT have enough cap room to sign Lebron AND re-sign McGrady. Even though they would have T-Mac's Bird rights, his cap hold would prevent them from signing Lebron or any other max (or even near-max) free agent. Not unless McGrady agreed VERY EARLY ON to take a huge paycut. And I just don't see a guy like Tracy McGrady completely foregoing the unrestricted free agency recruiting process in order to take a 50-60% pay cut with the Nets.

i think it really depends on how tracy plays this year. if he plays well, you're most likely right. if he plays average, there's nothing he can do but take a significant pay cut, or retire.

T-Mac is currently the league's highest paid player, so there is basically no way he WON'T take a pay cut. But if the Nets are offering $X per year, why wouldn't Tracy shop around to see if he couldn't get more than $X from another team? The key to the Nets being able to get Lebron and keep Tracy would be that Tracy quickly agree to a new contract. I don't think he'll quickly re-sign no matter what.

Nets can renounce McGrady, sign a $20M player, and still have slightly more cap room than Chicago (4th in teams with most cap space).

if we do this trade, we probably wont be able to resign Scola and Lowry, correct?

I personally love the financial flexibility we have after the 2010-2011 season, which is when we can swoop in and pick up whoever is available at the time.

I completely agree that Hinrich would be a great addition to the Rockets. Hinrich would provide versatility, defense, size, 3 pt shooting and vet presence to the front court positions. Also, Hinrich adds flexibility when Lowry becomes a free agent.

I like Jeffries too, but not enough to give up McGrady's huge expiring. While McGrady's expiring likely does not allow Houston to be a big player in the 2010 superstar lottery (unless either Yao or Scola are not re-signed). The alternative is to go out and get young players who would fit Morey's intangibles criteria as well as Adelman's system.

    Rockets trade:
    *McGrady
    *Dorsey
    *JTaylor
    *Rights to Eliyahu

    Bulls trade:
    *Hinrich
    *Deng
    *Noah

Chicago immediately clears enough cap space to get a max player to pair off w/Rose and Salmons. Note: Bulls might also insist that Carl Landry for Tyrus Thomas be included in the deal. Love Landry but not so much as to nix this deal. Houston adds a legit 7 footer who can run the floor, play above the rim, handle the ball, add energy & enthusiasm to both the 4 and 5 positions. Deng can be used as trade bait later on, or implemented in Adelman's offense (Deng is a good ball handler, creator, defender, rebounder) and another 3 is traded (Battier? Guy is the heart and soul of the team but is getting older and has a lot of trade interest_would never have thought of trading him before). And Bima has superbly explained Hinrich's fit for the Rockets.
