Since the end of the playoffs my preference has always been as KD/Butler swap with #11 (now Yaxel Lendeborg) and other picks coming back to us, and maybe Podz as well. I prefer taking a step back versus staying put or going for it.
I put this in another thread, but I'd love to see two different moves: 1. KD to Portland for Jrue and a pick or two - they have a guard glut and need a forward anyway, and have extra picks to play with 2. Fred and DFS to Memphis for Jerami Grant - they currently have 8 PFs, and this lets them get off that Grant money a year early We can come back next season with: Jrue, Amen, Eason, Jabari, Sengun and a bench of Thornton, Reed, Smart, Grant, Adams I'd be excited about that squad.
That’s sounds good, but the Warriors are known for being cheap on trading their picks. Despite AD has a worse contract than KD, I’m sure that the Wizards are willing to make a trade and even send some picks to the Warriors in return. Long story short - what you’ve written really sounds good for both teams, but it just won’t happen, at least not with draft capital from the Warriors, but without it we shouldn’t make such a move. So.. it won’t happen. But nice wishful thinking
I think it's hilarious that the entire NBA is reshuffling but at Stone's press conference he'll only be introducing Marcus Smart and, subject to availability, Fred's knee.
BTW, I'm not a doing-something-for-the-sake-of-doing-something guy, but we're just making minor tweaks like we were in the WCF last season and just needed a few more balls to bounce our way. No one should be happy with the status quo.
or at least pick a direction and agressively keep building the foundation to truly contend at some point in the future. This no direction approach absolutely sucks.
After Fred blew out his knee, it was "wait until the trade deadline". Then after the trade deadline, it was "wait until the buyout market". Then after the playoffs, it was "we know what to do". When you're stuck in neutral, how can you not expect another 1st round exit?
honestly I think we are potentially a play-in team. Teams have just gotten a lot better and no one’s gonna be tanking. Most of the western conference playoff teams got better. Utah is actually going to be good. I don’t see 50 wins next season…which is why a 38yr old KD should be converted into valuable assets or a younger player.
So it sounds like LeBron to the warriors possibly, but not AD? Send them KD to complete the old man's club and get draft picks?
It sounds like the Rockets' off-season is collapsing into a singularity from which no light can escape.
If we pursue that path, then it is something of a hat tip to a soft rebuild pathway. Essentially we'd be looking at leaning on the young guys and seeing what steps they can take, and then what value we can recoup from them [pick/s etc] I would be asking for something like the "Kawhi package" - perhaps 2 1Rpicks [2027 and 2033] plus their only 2nd, and requiring them to take on DFS and Capela [with the Warriors choosing the 2nd player they return - eg Richard or Santos etc]. Capela might actually have situational use for them, and DFS is a flyer worth taking for them - every chance he recovers and improves on last year.
