The enticing thing for Memphis is getting off of Ja's contract. It becomes tradable after next year. He doesnt have to be on ball all the time and we'd have to re-route FVV in this scenario which I'd love to do anyway. Memphis would be able to draft whatever PG they want of the 3 and would probably even be a borderline play-in/playoff team. Do I like Ja? No. Do I hate Ja more than the idea of Fred Jihad and Twitterfinger? Also no. Throw in the #3 and Cam Boozer/Dybantsa/Peterson and its a no brainer.
IMO way too much preoccupation here with getting into the 5-10 range of this year's draft. That a) never happens, and b) is not where the value lies in this year's draft. This year's draft has a strong top 4, and then a very deep tier of guys out to the ~20-22 range that could be lottery guys in other drafts. Guys like Steinbach, Philon, Okorie, Quaintance, Carr, Swain will get taken in the late teens or even early 20's, and are MUCH better value at those spots than Wagler or Acuff are at 5 or 6. They're all a pretty similar tier in prospect grade x positional value IMO. Hence, if we move into this draft I'd pay attention to OKC at 17, Toronto at 19, Detroit at 21, Atlanta at 23 as possibilities. Those are the kinds of picks and teams where trade-in's happen. If you have dreams that they're gonna move heaven and earth to acquire Darius Acuff or Keaton Wagler and anoint him as the franchise guy immediately - it's not gonna happen. See: Scoot Henderson. The next franchise guy is gonna be a bet that hits and takes that crown himself.
Quaintance looks really good if he can stay healthy. Agreed we are unlikely to trade into #5 or #6, but I think there’s a big difference between the lotto guys and guys like Swain.
Works on trade machine Hornets: KD Ball / Kon / Miller / KD / Diabete with White / Bridges bench is a win now move Rockets: Josh Green(Expriring), Williams(39% 3pt expiring), Salaun, Mann, #14 & 18 Somehow turn the #14 into Labaron Philon & draft best player at #18 Fred / Philon / Mann Amen / Reed / Green Tari / Williams / #18 Jabari / Williams / Salaun Sengun / Adams Next year draft best available at Nets & Phx
Sengun for Miller, Bridges and #18. Draft Morenz Johnson or Aday Mara C - Mara/Adams PF - Jabari/Bridges SF - KD/Tari SG - Miller/Reed PG - Amen/FVV Rockets do it because they want to get a bigger center and a shot blocker in the paint Charolette do it because they need a center and Sengun fits well w/Kon and Ball
i am definitely not a Maluach believer. I would have drafted CMB, Bryant, Queen or Cedric Howard. I do think that #10 in this draft could turn out to be a special player though, given how deep it is through the back of the lotto.
I would trade Sengun for Brandon Miller straight up. That seems more realistic to me. But I doubt the Hornets would make Miller available. The future is very bright if they build around Kon and Miller.
Memphis can do the same and just trade Ja mid-season next year after they draft Boozer or Peterson. It would take Sengun and probably 3 frp’s to get no. 3 in this draft. It is not happening. Not that I haven’t tried to dream it into reality in another thread.
Yes - but there have been stronger drafts too. Fact: 1 pick 10 in the last 20 years is a genuine lead guy, but arguably was best as a 2A or 1B
I'm not sure how much more is in there for Miller honestly. It's crazy how Kon immediately lapped him.
I think Kon is a legit franchise prospect though. Miller is 23 and is shooting 38% while playing good D. I don’t think he’s a 1A, but he can be that #2 guy. Mostly I just think he’d fit our needs better than what Sengun provides. He’s a legit 2-way small forward that can shoot. If we are keeping Amen I think he’s a much better fit than Sengun. But like I said, I doubt the Hornets would make him available.
They have another player behind Miller, Tidjan Salun. He is 6'9 - 6'10, who can shoot too. I could be wrong but I just dont think the Rockets are trading for Giannas or Brown nor do I think its wise to give up Brooklyn and Phoenix picks in 2027, with no young talent on the bench. However, by trading Sengun with Charolette, I think you can get two players for one and possibly a draft pick. Its hard to get FAs to go to Charolette, the only way to get players to go there is through trade or the draft. Sengun has made two All-Star games, so that gives them some notoriety. Plus, I think his offensive game goes well with Ball and Kon.
Charlotte wouldn’t trade Miller. They view him as someone on a prime PG13 trajectory. They’re also high on Diabate and Kalkbrenner. Trading Sengun is going to be a challenge due to his non-standard fit and archetype. Sure, that’s part of what makes him unique when he’s at his best, but that pendulum swings both ways. Very Russ-like in the way that you would have to alter your roster composition to accommodate his unique fit and shortcomings. And also why ultimately we might just have to give him another year to try to breakout.
The Sengun and Amen pairing doesn’t work with our current coaching and management and never will. Of the two Amen is the keeper. A trade like this will force KD’s hand as well. He is coming off a 2nd team All NBA season there is value we will obviously get something for him, too. The TEAM is better off and has some direction. Maybe even Ime will choose to move on as well. This trade gives us more opportunities and flexibility than any other option. Hopefully the chain reactions happen as we develop into a transitional team with system changes.
Sengun trades are difficult but if we really did put them on the market, I think there would be a few suitors for sure. Some of the abilities are probably untapped on our team and his contract and his youth made him a very valuable prospect with room to grow. I had been hopeful that the Knicks would crap out so we could potentially snag Towns. I imagine they will just run it back now almost no matter what unless there is some sort of salary cap constraint. Turner is there as an option who probably has an upside down value, but is a declining player, at least last year. I still see the Bucks as somebody where the trade could be viable. Miami, can potentially also like him. I think he fits well with Bam. Chicago, not sure if there’s players on that roster that we would love a bunch, but they have some relatively valuable draft picks, and a couple players. and I think there’s a couple other teams out there that we’re just not thinking of.
