I'm not really that excited about the possibility since the guy plays no defense. I guess you could argue that he's a better version of Reed right now, at least a more consistent version of him. This would be a depending on what we give up kind of move, IDK, it's hard to judge him as a 'winning' player. He's certainly talented, 27 a good age too so not close (presumably) to being washed...but this man's defense is often atrocious. I would say both Jalen and Reed have improved defensively under Ime but yeah I imagine he's going to cost a lot.
45 mil with a player option, I don't think we have the contracts without swapping out one of our stars tbh. I don't think we'll even be in the conversation, bad fit and we just don't have the pieces to make the trade regardless
I mostly agree. I actually think that we will be able to retain Eason at a valuable contract. And I am definitely unclear on the numbers, but if I remember right, Reeves Max is not a massive number. I mean, it’s still very very large, but I think we would be able to extend him if Fred were vacated somehow in the summer.
Well, you always have the contracts and pieces if you want a player bad enough. You can make it work with FVV's contracts and still keep Segun, KD, Amen, you're just going to likely have to give up on some of the other players. He's going to be an odd player on the trade market since the Hawks are reportedly wanting to get rid of him badly enough that they could attach picks to him lol.
I'm not saying the Rockets SHOULD do this, this would not be a good trade unless Trae magically improved his defense to tolerable levels...just proving that yes they could do it. Contracts are not really a barrier for ANY trade, a team just has to be open and willing to get it done. If the Rockets wanted Trae and the Hawks wanted to trade him to the Rockets it would get done.
Ah sorry, I guess I was always looking at it from a way that we wouldn't just be giving away half the team, otherwise, what's the point? Actually, that trade's impossible, we can't send out 3 players, we wouldn't have enough players or money left to fill the spots.
I’d pull the trigger.. Eason and Smith are replaceable … Defense be damned, but it’ll bring some much needed energy in the city limits for about 2 years
If increasing the risk profile, id rather gamble on Ja Morant than Trae. Neither are ideal to give up much for. If Trae were a free agent and assume any team could sign him outright, i don't think he gets his current contract from any team, so it has negative value. The Hawks could improve by just letting him go for nothing and retooling with better fit players, that means no team should give up much for him, no smart team at least. If you gave the Hawks 3 and D guys, and a decent shooter like Grimes or equivalent, they immediately become a better team.
Stay away, his shooting has plummeted this season. Not to mention his salary. I honestly can’t think of a single team who would want him. Maybe Cleveland would swap a small, no defense guard for another just to mix things up, idk.
I would love TJ. He was amazing in the playoffs and has been steady for a decade. We don’t need more “stars” we need a trusted ball handler and offensive organizer. I think him playing with pace would really help Amen and Tari get easy buckets in early offense
Reeves is not worth more than 30m and he is going to get it. If we trade Tari it should be for a sure fire lottery pick. Other wise take the gamble that you can match in RFA.
[Amick] The Sacramento Kings, Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers are not seen as potential landing spots for Trae Young. As of now, the Washington Wizards are the only team to have “substantive” talks with Atlanta about Young.
Trae Young = too expensive, even worse defense than we already have. I would think we'd aim for a decent stopgap, whomever that might be, not a dude costing nearly fitty million bucks.
Glad we are out on Trae. The Wizards make a ton of sense for him. They need a PG, aren’t really trying to win right now, have solid prospects in Sarr / George / Johnson, will have a high draft pick, etc. I could see them making a jump next season if they trade for Trae and nail the 2026 draft.
This thread is having a bad year. Nobody was trade-eligible until December. Even now, most of the guys on rookie deals without enough veteran salaries to make a big deal work. With FVV hurt, unlikely Rockets deal a rotation player. Basically, Capela is the biggest salary the Rockets would move without much regret unless they don't think DFS will round into shape. 1st Apron hard cap so close makes it hard to aggregate salaries and then sign minimums to backfill roster.
Add to that, that we don’t need to make a trade. We are already a championship contender with a little more time to work out the kinks.
I don’t want young on the team. I don’t think he could improve his defense enough and I want those shots going to other people. Thompson and Shepp have plenty of problems at this point in their career at the point, but their potentials and their combined abilities are the future.
