I’d love to get John Collins from them and move Jabari to small forward. Move FVV or let him walk. Amen, Jalen, Jabari, Collins, Sengun doesn’t translate to contender without other moves, but will add another big that can shoot from outside and get Amen to the backcourt. If you want to go all in on shooters trade Jalen out for Sexton. We could then give the young guys another season of development while still being a playoff team and maintain a fair amount of assets for future trades.
The easiest move to improve this team is FVV+ picks for Sexton and Collins. That is an insanely deep team Some players would not be happy with their new roles, as we already need to make some consolidation moves. This exemplifies that need. But it also demonstrates what a ridiculous amount of our cap FVV is hogging from better players.
I agree with you. That would be amazing trade to me, depending on the which picks we were sending. I think the #10 and a future Rocket FRP should be the max. Collins is a rental and if he works out, he would have to be extended.
If Utah were to hold onto them until the deadline, they might be able to get a FRP for each from playoff teams (Collins may only net multiple seconds). That means either bad current picks or distant picks. #10 and maybe some seconds could get it done. And FVV doesn’t mess with Utah’s cap going forward. They could still try to trade him later, let him walk and open up cap space, or do a sign-and-trade next year. As an apparently rebuilding team, he gives them lots of possibilities.
I haven't heard too much chatter about us using SnT as a way to match salary in a larger trade. Adams will be sought after at $12-15M per year, and Tate/Green can be re-signed (only 1st year guaranteed) at that value too. Teams can now use the MLE as a trade exception, and BKN sitting there with a ton of cap space, so we have a few options here. If we went down this path, we would be constrained by the first apron, but we could get some breathing room by opting out and re-signing FVV at a lower annual salary.
Maxey for Jalen, Dillon and two 1st rounders. Does Morey say no? Sengun Bari/Tari Amen/Tari/Cam Fred/Reed Maxey/Reed Maxey and filler for Fred, Bari, Dillon and a 1st rounder. Does Morey say no? Sengun ? Amen/Tari/Cam Jalen Maxey/Reed
Almost impossible to: A) use the NT-MLE (Use of the NT-MLE hard caps you below the 1A) B) keep Adams C) offer FVV anything over $19m. (he'd probably take that as an insult) You'd be in the tax but below the 1A and have little to no flexibility.

I totally forgot 1st apron teams can no longer take back 110% of their salary and are limited to 100%. I haven't thought the Rockets would be a 1st apron team as it would be too messy even with 110% matching. Sorry for the misinformation that I've spread.
And that is the biggest problem... having little to no flexibility with a team you know can't compete. We don't owe FVV anything. We got what we needed from him and he got what he needed from us. Fred would not be insulted by a $19M offer because it's more than what he's worth. But he would definitely feign being insulted and pass on signing such a deal for one reason: to have the Rockets pick up his $45M option in order to try and trade him. That's a big win for him. Anything over $20M for FVV and Stone is a sucker.
Lopsided against the Jazz from their perspective. Because of ethnicity, you would likely have to throw in Landale as well to balance it out.
If we can't agree to a reasonable contract with Fred and lose out on the durant sweepstakes. Brooklyn out: claxton, johnson, #26 Brooklyn in: fvv, jock, finney-smith, #10 Outlook: gets the 2nd lottery pick they are seeking and gain aton of expiring salary to be serious players in next years free agency. Lakers out: finney-smith, reaves Lakers in: claxton, cam, #26 Outlook: get the center they desperately need and want to pair with doncic. A high upside reclamation project and a 1st rd pick to fill out the roster depth. Houston out: fvv, jock, cam, #10 Houston in: reaves, johnson Outlook: We acquire 2 very solid players on reasonable contracts. Both are for 2 years, which lines up perfectly with amens expected extension. Frees up the cap situation to resign adams and stay under the tax. Lose a lottery pick but serously upgrade both players exiting.
Minor point is that while most players opt in, Reaves will definitely opt out and get paid in a year. But I still like it.
