You are correct. No way they are trading Lively because of AD. AD prefers PF and an AD, Lively frontcourt is pretty spicy.
I wonder if Lively being hurt changes which of the centers they shop. I think this season and next have to be big priorities for the Mavericks such that missing Lively for 1-3 months is a big deal for them. I'd be looking at either Gafford or Lively if they are available.
Sort of wonder if we might secretly be working on a big splash for somebody we didn't know was available Whole league is shook right now by the Luka deal, Spurs didn't have to give up much for Fox, feels like front offices are all having second thoughts about supermax deals and the effects of hitting the second apron. Could Jaylen Brown suddenly become available after all? History repeat itself with OKC making J-Dub available so they don't have to pay him a supermax deal? Could Memphis decide to move JJJ for the same reason (also extension eligible in the offseason)? Feels like all bets are off now.
Why fix something thats not broken? What is wrong with some rockets fans? We have guys in g league that is dropping 40 right now.
Even for cheap, you still have to drastically alter the roster to make the trade work. I’m not saying don’t entertain the idea. People just need to understand that it won’t be some sort expirings + draft capital type of trade. Rotation players would have to be included.
Some other team will outbid us on KD. My guess on Stone's best offer would be Dillon Brooks + expiring salary filler + two FRPs. Some other team will offer that but either sub in a better, younger player than Dillon or throw in more draft picks.
That's why price dependent. Worst we can get is a no. It depends on if we are in Win Now or mode or not. I personally don't see a reality where we trade for him.
Let's go let's go let's go. We have to get Durant. We need someone for exactly 2.5 years before we can't afford them and we have other people to take over. Let's do this. He's the perfect, seamless fit at PF. Sengun Durant Amen Green FVV Seriously, let's go for an outside title shot and 2 full title shots the next 2 seasons.
I just don't think that gets him. I think the Rockets offer that actually moves the needle past other teams probably includes a guy like Jalen, or else really digging deep into our pile of draft picks. I guess I wouldn't mind it for Dillon + 2 FRPs (if one of them is a Houston Rockets pick, not a swap).
1 good pick and our 2 worst picks is my max. Brooks is worth a pick and an expiring contract on his own and he's a great starter for them.
I would consider Durant, even at his age, but wouldn't surrender any of our top young players. I would be willing to give the Suns Reed and Cam, plus Brooks and Landale to make the salaries match, as well as all of their picks back: PG: VanVleet / Holiday SG: Green / Tate SF: Durant / Thompson PF: Smith / Eason C: Sengun / Adams No matter how you feel about Holiday and Tate, you still have an incredible 8 man rotation for the playoffs. Assuming everyone stays healthy, you are a contender for 2 years.
The 2 FRPs the Rockets can move to the Suns are more valuable than most unprotected FRPs, right? The Rockets have to consider this.
Y'all are talking about giving up far too valuable of draft capital for a rental on a mid-30s player who has never been able to lead a team to a championship as their best player. With a little patience, those picks could be used for a comparable level of player who will actually be here long term. No reason to be in a big rush to try to go deep, especially for a guy like KD who has never been good enough, even in his prime, to carry a team all the way--had to jump on the GSW freight train to get his rings.
My initial thought was offering Brooks, Landale, Jeff Green, and Aaron Holiday plus picks....but if we do that, we'd have to figure out what to do with Jabari Smith. I don't see him being happy with a bench role and I wouldn't want him out there over Amen. I think we may need to flip him too.
Ugh I'm torn.... KD at the 3 (if you can keep the important pieces around him) vaults us into definite title contention. You have your "closer" and your offensive weapon when Green/Sengun don't have it. BUT, he's getting up there in age and I feel like Booker could be had this offseason or next year, so I'd rather have Book. But, I'm impatient (even though we are WAAAAAY ahead of where we should be)... Ah, who am I kidding? Let's get em both
Stone has been betting the house against KD teams and winning big for 4 years now. And people think Stone wants to trade for him now? KD turns 37 before next season starts. He's noticeably slowed down this season. He's expecting an extension this summer that will pay him $65M for his age 39 season. We are not winning a championship this season no matter who we acquire. Our players are college senior aged. Phoenix *not* trading KD, extending him, and going down with the ship is our ticket to free lottery picks in 2027 and 2029.
