The best most successful plans are ORGANIC. But you have to start somewhere. And the best organizations identify their best players and adjust system to fit these players instead of vice versa. For example, if Sengun is one of your building blocks then move to a defense that he can actually be successfully playing in. Sengun (neither are Green or Wood for that matter) is not a fit for a switching defense.
I'm not sure what Green will be like defensively. He looks like he could become more suited to switching with more muscle.
Nope. Even with more muscle, Green doesn't understand team defense. Gets lost if not defending the guy with the ball. Effort and more muscle will not improve this. He was not invested in defense in HS or G League so he is behind the 8 ball when it comes to the mental component of defense. Switch defense requires all 5 players to be in synch and understanding rotations. Cannot be ball watching.
If Green can't play any NBA team defense, it doesn't matter if they play switching defense or not. I think muscle would help on the switching. Ball watching is going to hurt him regardless. Back on random trades... Cavs get: Gordon Spurs get: Rubio Sengun 2022 Nets FRP 2022 Cavs FRP 2023 Milw FRP 2026 Nets FRP Rockets get: Murray I really don't know if that would be overkill or lowball for Murray. I don't think Spurs will be able to keep him. I think Sengun is going to be a tough fit for Rockets and seems like a Spurs player. Spurs would have to move something else for salaries to work.
Houston: Rubio and 1st rounder from Cavs and Raptors Cleveland: Dragic Toronto: Christian Wood and Usman Garuba
Who’s advocating youth for the sake of youth. Gathering assets and FRP’s is just that. The assets gathered can be traded for veteran difference makers. I believe we all understood Stone’s plan before the season began, that was to hoard frp’s and young assets with a target of being relevant when John Wall’s contract comes off the books. I think you actually see this, but can’t get over your infatuation with Simmons. If we do trade for Simmons, I would become a member of his biggest fan club, but I just think it is a horrible risk given his inability to shoot and his mental issues. The 76ers have gone on bended knees to try and get this guy to play this year, a year that the team is one of the top contenders for a championship, but Simmons refuse to play because of a comment (supposedly). Maybe he has a real mental issue and will never be the same. Why take that risk by giving away valuable assets to be an 8 seed or worst? Save the assets for a trade when we have a sufficiently developed core of young players that adding a vet all-star or two will make us legitimate contenders.
I’d go with overkill. That’s Gordon, 3 firsts, and Sengun for Murray? Most say Gordon is worth a first (and your trade has the Cavs sending a first for him). I would argue Sengun is worth more than a first, but he is at least that. So that’s five+ FRPs of value for Dejounte Murray…I had no idea anyone valued him that highly. That’s a ‘top 8 player in the league’ type package.
man I hope this is true! I sure they don’t wait too long to pull the trigger on a FRP offer and either or both teams turn their attention elsewhere
3 team: Hou out: Wood and Brooks Hou in: Rubio, Cle 2022 FRP, Mia 2022 FRP, & Mia 2024 FRP Mia out: Robinson, 2022 FRP & 2024 FRP Mia in: Wood & Cle SRP (via Hou) Cle out: Rubio, 2022 FRP Cle in: Robinson & Brooks
Follow up: Hou out: EG & worst of Mia/Brooklyn FRP Hou in: Jalen Smith, Dario Saric, Elfrid Payton & Pho 2023 & 2025 FRP Pho out: Jalen Smith, Dario Saric, Elfrid Payton & Pho 2023 & 2025 FRP Pho in: EG & 2022 FRP (via Miami or Brooklyn) So, Rockets turn Wood, EG, Armoni and one of their low 2022 FRPs into: Jalen Smith (21 y.o. power forward and former 2020 #10 pick), Dario Saric (filler), Elfrid Payton (filler/expiring), Ricky Rubio (filler/expiring) and draft picks (an extra 2022 FRP via Cleveland, a 2023 FRP via Phoenix, a 2024 FRP via Miami and a 2025 FRP via Phoenix).
Just fwiw, nearly every pick you’ve included in these two trades either isn’t owned by the team you’ve attributed it to (HOU only owns the best of BKN/MIA) or isn’t able to be traded (MIA 2022 & 2024; PHX 2023 & 2025) due to either the Stepien Rule or being protection for a pick that won’t settle until after the season. Here is a link to check out for future trade ideas. https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/team I can’t say for sure it’s 100% accurate, but I’ve found it to be pretty solid and regularly updated.
