I'd give them Gordan and one of our lessor 1sts. We don't want to be like Danny and stockpile a bunch of picks and never trade them. Gordan is good and his contract is reasonable but I really don't think people are in the market for a 33 year old for a future 1st. ATL will get salary relief and a pick - like they want. Take advantage of their fire sale on Collins.

I was wondering about tge Spurs the other day as a trade partner. On one hand, they have a lot of good young players but are they really on the right rebuilding path if they are unable to get a pick at the top of the draft over the next 3 years? Its not like they have a bunch of first rounders in reserve.

I love Murray (as I am sure they do). I am just not really sure of his value. What is a fair deal for him at this point?

3 trades, makes sense after all three

    Trade 1:
    TOR gets E Gordon
NYK gets R. Bullock, J Brunson
    DAL gets G Dragic
LAL gets J Wall, K Walker, D Nwaba, A Brooks

HOU gets R Westbrook, TH Tucker, K Nunn, D. Powell (from DAL), NYK 1st, DAL 1st

Comment: LAL doesn't give up 1st but takes Walker, NYK gives up 1st to get Brunson/Bullock and get rid of Walker, DAL gives up 1st to get Dragic for role players.

    Trade 2:
IND gets D Robinson (from MIA), D Theis
    NYK gets C Levert
    MIA gets E Fournier

HOU gets TJ McConnell (from IND), 2 NYK 2nds

Comment: NYK trades Fournier for Levert for 2 seconds

    Trade 3:
CHA gets M Turner, U Garuba
IND gets C Wood, j Bouknight

HOU gets M Plumlee, PJ Washington, CHA 1st

Comment: IND getting both Wood and Theis allows them to trade Sabonis if they want to complete their non-tank makeover. CHA ramps up defense to match their offense beating other Turner offers with a 1st and Bouknight.

    HOU going forward:
PG - KPJ, THT, Augustin, (McConnell inj, Westbrook)
    SG - Green, Christopher, Matthews
    SF - Tate, (Nunn inj)
PF - PJ Washington, K Martin
    C - Sengun, Plumlee, Powell
Add 1sts from CHA, DAL, NYK and 2nds from NYK
    (still have the two-way boys)

Comment: I think KPJ, THT, and Green could become a 3 guard nightmare rotation for other teams. Washington is downgrade in offense, but an upgrade in spacing, passing, and FT%. McConnell and Powell add to culture and work ethic that you need for a younger team.

5 Picks? The only way this makes sense if some are years down the road or you are going to condense them down to a higher pick. Which sounds nice but can be hard to do and with teams knowing you do not have room for all those picks makes you have less bargaining power.

In saying that I believe I would go all on next years draft. For example say the Rockets end up with the 10th pick next year. If they had 3 other 1st round picks you could maybe move up to the top 5.

That gives you that top 5 pick.

this years top 7 pick, as all a foundation.

I both like John Collins.... AND see him and think, ok, he's CWood on a much bigger contract ... so what's the point?

Collins is a better defender than Wood, two years younger, is a better 3 point shooter and free throw shooter, and also finished around the rim at a higher percentage.

they seem similar statistically on defense. Eye test has shown me Collins isn't much defensively...but I am aware with the eye test that CWood is horrible defensively too lol.

But agreed on the others. Didn't realize Collins was really splashing so well from 3 this year.

That said, all these trade proposals where Wood is involved going out, and Collins is involved coming in... why then would anyone not just go straight for Collins?? obviously, contract is a big difference...

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Wood for Collins but I'm pretty sure Atlanta knows that Wood is a derivative to Collins as a player and is also due for an extension that they probably don't want to pay out. Sure Wood could come in cheaper than Collins' ~$24 million a year deal but Wood is a defensive sieve. You already have one in Trae Young in the back court; you really shouldn't play two defensive liabilities at the same time. Based on data from 82games.com Collins can play his counterpart at the 4 position to an almost even tilt (Collins' PER is 21 vs his counterpart's 20.5) while Wood's production at the 4 spot is pretty bad (Wood's PER is 12.4 vs his counterpart's 20.2). Statistically Wood excels when he's at the 5 spot but you're then having to change up your rotation and remove your best defender in Capela to make room for Wood in crunch time? I don't think Wood offers Atlanta anything more vs Collins other than he comes in cheaper.

Yeah, I didn't invest that much in what picks are available. I'm assuming they're sprinkled over a number of years and are available for future trades. I focused more on getting picks for what we were sending out.

But if Atlanta is seeking to adjust contracts (seeking starter and pick), then perhaps the cheaper thing is big for them.
It might also mean they can try a new direction at C, it gives them the option to look at how well Wood plays at the 5 spot in limited minutes, can he mesh with Trae?
Perhaps also gives them the chance to roll out Jalen Johnson at the 4 a bit more often, and perhaps think about turning the froncourt over to Wood, Okongwu and Johnson (ie sell Capela off)

I dunno, I don't understand what they are doing in Atlanta to be honest. I would have thought keeping long wings like Reddish was pretty important next to Trae, so... colour me confused

I think that team has seen too many injuries to most of its core players that they're just not used to the rotations. That, the possibility of a playoff hangover, the less than stellar production from Gallo this year....definitely crazy.

    Hmm. Playing with the rumours.

I love Collins on this team. Yes he's much of a muchness defensively to Wood. But he's been shooting better from 3. Better at the line. Farrrr more athletic. Younger. And more importantly knows how to play the 4 alongside another big.

Im all for it. So how about.

    Rockets: Collins, Gallinari

    Miami: Wood

Hawks: EG, Duncan Robinson, Nwaba, 2023 MIL FRP (via Houston) and a 2025 MIA FRP (with light protections)

Would love to grab Huerter off them too but thats a bit much :/

On almost half as few attempts. Collins only 3 attempts to Wood's 5.

Collins also not as good rebounder. 7 boards to Wood's 10.

    Wood also averages more PPG.

But both are essentially 3rd options, maybe 4th, on a playoff team.
