I'm cool with this trade, but I want to read the breakdown on why all these teams make these trades? Make it up if you have to. I know it would make a good read.
Houston Trade Breakdown Outgoing Bob Sura 6-5 from Florida State No games yet played in 2006/07 Scott Padgett 6-9 PF from Kentucky 1.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 8.3 minutes Incoming Dwight Howard 6-11 PF from SW Atl Christian Academy (HS) 17.6 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 1.7 apg in 35.9 minutes Change in team outlook: +15.8 ppg, +9.9 rpg, and +1.4 apg. Orlando Trade Breakdown Outgoing Dwight Howard 6-11 PF from SW Atl Christian Academy (HS) 17.6 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 1.7 apg in 35.9 minutes Incoming Bob Sura 6-5 from Florida State No games yet played in 2006/07 Scott Padgett 6-9 PF from Kentucky 1.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 8.3 minutes Change in team outlook: -15.8 ppg, -9.9 rpg, and -1.4 apg. Houston: Pulls off this trade because they need a big man to back up Juwon Howard and Mountain Mutumbo. Orlando: Admits they have an addiction to crack.
As pointless as it may be, I always get a kick out of topics like this. It's fun to imagine what we could get (if this was NBA Live) or even what we could get realistically. Let me address quickly the first trade proposal since it's the only one in the realm of reality. As much as I'd love to have Sam Cassel I don't think it's worth giving up our dynamic veteran PF and our young atletic big guard Kirk Snyder, who will mature into an important piece of our puzzle. We are just fine with Rafer at PG, and though Cassel is an upgrade over Rafer, our team is better off with Rafer, Juwan, and Snyder than it is with Cassel, Skip, and Tim Thomas. I'm still holding out hope that we'll find a way to acquire a capable PG to back up Rafer, and another big PF/C if possible, before the deadline. I fear that if Skip goes down for an extended period we may be more screwed than we realize; Skip for all his faults can run our offense, handle the ball, pass well, and hit the occassional clutch shot... with Luther/JLIII/V-Span playing more than spot PG minutes our offense looks lost. I say we just take our 2nd round pick (and perhaps some scrub we want to dump) and get the best young but experienced true PG we can. That... or we trade Padgett for a bag of rocks and whatever food/merchandise we can get. Or hell, maybe we can manipulate the Knicks and they'll trade us David Lee or Stevie Franchise for Padgett. Isiah is always on the look our for that veteran talent.
Manipulate the Knicks by offering them Sura, Padge, and Bonzi for QRich and Cato and to get them to buy out Francis. This deal saves them over $20 million next year alone in salary and luxury tax.
