I am also one of the people who think the Nuggets are overrated. Kenyon has hardly ever shown a post up game. And it is NOT opinion that Martin performed badly against West power forwards like Tim Duncan, it is a FACT. None of that opinion crap, the guy performed badly period. I might be able to find the stats but I remember the games and they were not his best. This is the "I got traded or signed to another team, now people think I am better than I am ie: overrated" syndrome that a lot of people get when a person is traded. Steve Francis fits into this category because on other message boards after he was traded, people started talking like he a top 5 pg all of a sudden and started putting him into the Oscar Robert, Magic Johnson category. It's ludicrous. I wish the season would just start now so we can stop all the forecasting.
Nuggets helped themselves by adding K-Mart, but he didn't really address their needs. He's an open court player who plays tremendous on-the-ball defense. But offensively, he's really only consistent in a broken field. Miller has shown that he's not nearly as effective as a playmaker when he has to share the ball (i.e.: letting other guys make plays for themselves). 'Melo's good, but he still has a lot of work to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Nuggets still won't be effective enough in slow down, half court games to be a factor in the playoffs.
The scariest part about Denver for me is not the addition of K-Mart although that will help a good deal. Carmelo Anthony is a year older. He was really good last year but now he's got a year of NBA experience under his felt. I think he can and will still improve and that combined with the addition of K-mart could be huge. Regardin their frontline, I think it's one of the best in the league. Nene at 6-10 or 6-11 at 260 is a really strong guy. K-Mart is also pretty big and plays even bigger. Camby is skinny but has really long arms and is still pretty athletic.
He had two atrocious offensive games (5 and 6) during the 2003 finals but was otherwise solid, and Duncan only had two really big scoring nights (games 1 and 5, 32 pts and 29 pts) -- but then again, at the time he was the best player on the planet.
The problem with Martin he was really stupid in those two games. He should do more than just shooting his team down. By the way, Duncan is known for a smart player. He usually trusts his teammates to take over game but steps up when necessary. Yao has a similar way to approach the game. Some people may call it passive but I'm ok with that.
