Every county in Texas (and every one I've ever been to elsewhere) has some level of "alcohol control" so I'm not sure what this map is supposed to measure.
Interesting that the 6 most optimistic states are three blue states (California, New Jersey, Maryland) and three red states (Wyoming, Montana, Alabama). I would imagine they are happy for different reasons. Being in California, I would think my life is much more similar to someone in New York, Washington, Illinois, or Connecticut than with someone in Alabama, Wyoming, or Montana. Similarly, I would imagine being in Alabama is much more similar to being in Mississippi, Texas, or West Virginia than it is to being in California, New Jersey, or Maryland.
