    Correct. Move Brewer instead.

I agree with this mostly. I really like Snell's handle and ability to make plays. He's in a whole different class from Ariza on that count. And he's a better shooter too. I'm pretty sure he'd be a lot better fit next to Harden offensively with his ability to make plays and shoot the pull-up as well as spot up.

But I do understand malakas' point about Snell being half-asleep out there a lot of the time. And I'm not convinced Snell would be a good replacement for Ariza defensively. And that does make me nervous about him. And I don't consider his trade value to be high. And I'd love to keep Ariza and send out Brewer in a deal with Chicago. But I don't think they're after a player like Brewer. I think we'd have to give up Ariza for one of their bigs and Snell. And I think I'd do that. Especially if I could make a secondary trade moving Brewer out to a second team for perhaps a stretch-4 and a second swingman. Like Brewer/Jones for Anderson/Gee.

That would give us a combo of Snell/Gee at SF. Gee is a very underrated defender. And I'd take those expiring contracts, the fix with Chicago's big for our defense and go to war with those guys.

Good post, thanks for the insight. It's good to see you agreeing with the gist of my post. Like you said, I think Snell is pretty underrated. He's been buried deep in the rotation under Thibs and he's been mucked around with early this season, he just hasn't had a lot of continuity in his career thus far.

He has a smooth handle and can make plays, and he does have a nice jumper. He's an intelligent player. You may be right about his defense. I must confess I don't watch the Bulls nearly as much as I do Houston, but he has all the tools to be an above average defender, he would be great on this team. It's not like Ariza has been a shining light on that end this season anyway.

I hope we can find a way to secure him, and offload some of our dead weight.

You said, "He's an intelligent player." Where are you getting that from?

Snell has better handles than Ariza. And so? He doesn't have assists. And he plays in Hoidball, where the point is to pass the ball to find the open shooter. He doesn't steal he doesn't rebound particularly well he again and again doesn't box his man out. He is just "not there" mentally. All this for a 24 y.o. It's not like he's 21. And defence???
Lol if you think that he can do 1/5th of what Ariza does. It will be very funny to put Snell on Cousins and see what happens. And by funny I mean cry yourself to tears from what you see.
He is NOT a good defender. I don't care what his wingspan is if he has the focus of an ADHD. He gets often baited in reaching fouls. If you accept Snell like Ariza does, to guard the best 1-3 player and hide Harden it will be a disaster.
And it's wrong that it's due to his coaches. Thibs played him last year and this year the Bulls were relying on him to be their wing now that Scumleavy is out for who knows how long. He failed, and he lost his starting spot to someone who is a true disaster at sf and should never play there. (mirotic).
And due to Snell fail to fit in the gap is why now the Bulls who NEVER want to do any trades are looking to do trades.

And he is not a consistent shooter either. If you expect him to shoot as many 3s as Ariza and consistently make him you will be dissapointed.

But don't worry I'm 100% sure that the Bulls will have no problems throwing him in any deal for Ariza and drive him to the airport. They will no accept McDermott they will want to throw Snell.

Probably the wrong word to use. He's not a cliched 'crafty' individual or someone who oozes basketball IQ, but he recognises his weaknesses and exhibits reasonable intangibles.

Like I said, I haven't watched a ton of Bulls games. But when I have watched him, he has made the extra pass, opted to take the floater instead of committing a charge etc. things like that.

There were several instances today when Ariza infuriated me. Trying to finish over two defenders on an obscene angle (driving layup), when he could have passed it back out to Lawson. At another stage he had an open dunk, yet somehow bricked a finger roll. 0-8 from three, the last of them being a brick on a contested look with 5 seconds left and two timeouts left.

Everyone makes mistakes, but I guess what I am trying to say is, Ariza isn't a smart player. He seems like a sharp dude off the court, but he's boneheaded on it. I don't see Snell having so many shaqtin a fool moments. Hence my 'intelligent' player comment, but that's in comparison with Ariza lol.

Ideally I want McBuckets along with a big from Chicago. I think I'd hold out for McBuckets and be willing to throw KJ and Dekker into a deal with them to make it work.

    Ariza/Terrence/Lawson/KJ for

    McDermott/Noah/Brooks/Dunleavy

Snell is a superior three point shooter to Ariza, it's not even close.

As for the other posts, you need to chill a bit. I wasn't being scathing in my review of what you said about Snell the first time, so settle down.

I will say this again: Ariza has not been a good defender this season, at all. And using the instance of when he guarded Cousins for half a quarter, when we were aggressively doubling, is not a good basis for any argument. He did a great job on Cousins, but come on.

I actually said more than once I do not watch many Bulls games, and I did backtrack and say I am not fully aware of his defense, but just because you think you are right doesn't mean you are.

Also, to suggest his performance at Chicago has not been impacted by Thibs and Hoiberg would be a mistake. Last season, in the months of December and January, he averaged less than 10 minutes a game. How exactly does that constitute as getting 'played'. However, when Snell was given about 30 minutes a game in March and April, he shot 52% and 39% from three (5 attempts a game). In the month of November this season, Snell shot 47% from three on over three attempts a game, yet the mighty Hoiberg has pulled him completely from the rotation just a few games later. I'd be surprised if Ariza has three months with Houston with percentages from three that good (it may be the case that he does, but I would be very surprised). How the hell is any player supposed to grow and gain confidence when you experience the fluctuations in minutes this guy has?

He had a double double against Philly on the 14th December (16 points, 11 rebounds) and has hardly played since, having been yanked from the starters and rotation.

Snell is not an elite rebounder for the SF, but neither is Ariza.

    Yes, I mentioned this yesterday.....

....but I wasn't aware Pau's name was in the rumors. (Guess that's inevitable.)

The link you provided helps; if I'd been less lazy, I might have done the same. :)

We do need defense, rebounding, and basketball IQ. Too often we allow the other team to waltz past for layups and the entire team looking at each other: "I thought you were supposed to get him?" Just pathetic.

I'd take Taj, especially since it's unlikely Dwight would be shipped out in a deal and he and Noah wouldn't be needed on the same team. Noah plays D and is a great passer, although he's often injured (if not out-for-the-year injured).

Reminder to everyone here : The hardest thing to find is a 3+D wing. That's why Ariza has great value. Bigs are much easier to get. But wings who are good defensively and can shoot are a very expensive premium. Teams who have them , even if they are not playoffs teams they will not let them go unless you severely overpay.

As for what Bulls are willing to trade a) Pau has already declared that he will opt out and leave the Bulls , and has high ego. He will NOT accept to come off the bench, and he already whined this year about his post touches. b) Noah, even though he has looked in the last 3-4 games better, than how he looked at the start (a disaster) is expiring. I strongly suspect that like Hinrich after he expires he will come back to Chicago in a cheap deal. Like 8-9 per. It's a 6 month rental for someone who is able to be exploited in the playoffs because the defences ignore him and play 4 on 5.
    C) taj gibson is the more valuable of every big they are willing to throw but he's also 30 has weak ankles and is frequently injured.

Ariza is worth MUCh more than Taj Gibson. You can find Taj Gibsons but you can't find Arizas and you can't find Arizas that are paid 8 per.

    Yeah the problem is:

Ariza isn't a very good three point shooter.

And he hasn't been very good defensively all season.

So what are we left with? A 3 and D player that does neither. Surely I can't be the only one who sees this. The dude is beyond awful.

Don't know about "beyond awful", but he almost has the look of, "They're probably gonna trade me anyway, why bust my ass for them?"

Snell is not a consistent shooter. Nice of you to see his 3pt % when he shoots half the 3s that Ariza does and I tell you right now that his 3s are much better looks than waht Ariza gets here.

Also nice of you to mention his hot streak, that was the only time in his carreer so far that he was able to contribute offensively. Where is he now that Hoidberg put him in the starting lineup? Where was he in last years playoffs?

And I don't need to chill because quite frankly I dont' give a damn about Snell. But when I see someone say that he's a better or even comparable defender to Ariza.. What makes you say that Ariza hasn't been good defensively this year. wHEN A LOT of times he had to guard pfs in a team that their perimeter defence is simply horrendous. One good defender does NOT save one teams' defence. Esp when he has to hide the likes of Harden , Terry, Brew, Lawson.
You could put Kawhi Leonard in place of Ariza and his DRTG would look bad, and he would look bad when his teammate does not communicate to him when he decides to switch.

I don't know man, he's been very ordinary. I think people are too busy watching Harden's defensive effort or lack off to see how bad Ariza has been on that end.

And his 'shooting', don't get me started. Clank, clank and wait for it... Clank.

He's a capable 3 point shooter, that is in a team that shoots 3s without consience. Put him in a team that shoots only good looks from 3 (like in Washington ) and he will look much better shooter.

He has been good defensively this season.

So you have a capable 3 point shooter with good and most importantly VERSATILE defence.

What you have in Snell? A low iq bball player, who likes to dissapear, who is not a good defender who can't be trusted in any clutch situations who has minimal playoff experience and who takes 3s off good looks.

Maybe watch some Bulls games then and start reading after that.
All of Snell, Mirotic and McDermott get very good looks when they shoot.
The Rockets shooters get much much worse looks.
