    Not necessarily.

If Morey chose to use the TPE before ~Dec 18 that player could be moved again , with other contracts at the deadline.

If he got a player that took up the full $8.374m he has ~$10.567m (125%+100k) that he can combine with other contracts instead of being limited to no more than the exact dollar amount of the exception. Just have to have it done before the 60th day before the trade deadline to be able to aggregate that players salary in conjunction with others at the deadline.

Then again , he could hold onto that and use it in the offseason as there is a short (three days?) window between the opening of the FA signing period and its expiration date (July 13 2014) possibly allowing both a solid FA signing & use of the exception.

The question here is "When does Morey go all in , now or in the coming offseason?"

    Options options .....

Expiration date should read July 13 2015.

Daniels & Dorsey for Brendan Haywood.

Current salary is 2.2M (amnesty bid), next year it's 10.5M fully unguaranteed.

No to a much needed backup rim protector? Daniels is a third option SG on the Rockets whose minutes should be given to Johnson anyway since he has a higher upside.

No sir, DMo has crossed the threshold to never going to be long time serviceable player and Capela's windows is not even going to crack open before Howard's slams shut as a Rocket. It is a timing THING. Lets put some now players around H&H. Foye is a missing link that Terry has filled but can t sustaine at his age. The role is vital to team success more so than a 2nd string not going to happen player or a 3 yr project. Yes J. Adrien is not a long term answer but he is a serviceable patch. He is better NOW than both DMo or Capela. We are in WIN NOW MODE.

I feel like the final chapter has been taken from the book. What comes next?

Interesting thought (although I don't think Morey would pull the trigger on this without a firm PG succession plan lined up), but the Cavs cannot trade their 2015 first rounder (which would actually be the lower of their own and Chicago's, from the Luol Deng trade last year). The Cavs owe a protected 2016 first rounder to Boston from the Jarrett Jack three-team trade with the Nets this past summer. Therefore, they cannot trade a first rounder until 2018, or two years after they fulfill their obligation to Boston, whichever is later.

Toronto is a team to target for a first round pick. They own two first-rounders in 2016.

Bargnani was much more active his first few seasons in the league. The last few seasons, his teams have tried to make him more of a low post guy, shooting much fewer threes and more inefficiently I might add. Its about usage and role, on this team Bargnani would be more free to play where he made his bones before the NBA (around the arc), as well as spot minutes behind Howard.

Again, not necessarily saying Bargnani is my choice, he just makes more sense and more obtainable than some of the names being bandied about.

His recent 3pt percentages are really bad. That gives me a great deal of concern. I also wonder about his ability to defend his position. Those two factors make him a no-go for me.

I wonder what (if anything) the Lakers would want in return for Jordan Hill.

I'd give up Terry, D-Mo and the NOP pick for him. Lakers save a bit of money this year, get a decent first rounder, and get to see what D-Mo can do given 30+ minutes a night. This all but guarantee them the ability to keep their pick this year. It's a bit of a tough sell but who knows what the plan is in LA.

As far as Jordan Hill, he would look very good both playing behind Dwight and playing next to him in certain matchups (Spurs, Blazers, Thunder, Grizzlies, Bulls, Pelicans). I'd be very comfortable with Dwight, Jordan Hill, and Terrance Jones splitting 96 big man minutes. (34 Dwight, 31 each for TJones and Hill).

This trade also opens up a rotation spot for Tr3y Daniels who I think can be a really good contributor for us, especially if paired with Canaan whom he shares good chemistry with. We have seen how much better Canaan looks getting 20+ minutes a night as opposed to just spot garbage time minutes. I think Daniels will benefit in the same way.

That leaves us with a 9-man rotation of:

    Beverly/Canaan
    Harden/Daniels
    Ariza/Papa
    Jones/Hill
    Dwight/Hill

and we'd still have the TPE to make additions if needed.

So Kevin Love has an opt out for next Summer? If true, I no longer want the Rockets to burn their 2015 cap at the deadline. Love might bolt Cleveland, for a number of reasons, and I'm not convinced he'd be eager to join Kobe in LA. If Houston makes a deep playoff run, and Morey can sign him outright to a max, I think the Rockets would be in the mix.

How much is a mobile, 27 year old big man getting 14pts and 8rebs a game worth? That Pelicans pick is unlikely to get us anyone who can produce at that level. This season is the best shot we've had in a LONG TIME. If we don't go all in now, then when?

I'm not saying Hill is perfect but he fits a need and is attainable without disrupting our core. And relative to his production Hill @ $9 million is not overpaid. *shrug* my $.02

I bet if Love bolted Cleveland he wouldn't get half the **** Howard got for leaving Orlando/LA.
