Gasol is washed up and always injured I don't want him plus Gasol & Howard combo failed miserably in LA. I would avoid that if possible, as our system is highly dependent on transition buckets and Gasol can't run the floor regularly, but if he can stay healthy he can be very productive in the right system (not ours).

I have him slotted in to the back-up C role to limit his minutes.
Brand also fits that same mold as a savy vet who could fill those minutes...he is a bit undersized but has the wingspan to compensate.

Milsp and Howard would get the bulk of the minutes at 4 and 5, and you still have Covington if you want to go small and really spread the floor.

    would this work?

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

    Chalmers/Bev
    Harden/Daniels
    Parsons/Vet
    Bosh/Jones
    Howard/Vet

Could send Jones instead of DMo if it made it more possible

Love may want to play with Rondo since he had success with Ricky Rubio. And unlike Rubio, Rondo is a star player. Those two could get Boston in the playoffs in that conference. I really don't see why Love would go there without him or Boston being willing to pass up on having two stars on the same team NOW... "Cap Space" is nothing until it turns into a player and there's no guarantee what player they can get with it in the future.

IKR, Horford or Millsap would be a win

Hawks already weren't interested in Asik for Millsap. It's going to take more than that.

I like the idea but I would do

asik + dmo or picks for Millsap

Lin + picks to LA for nothing

    Sign Hawes

    Sign Parsons

Use MLE on Dang/Marion/Carter/Kirinlenko and Livingston/Blake

    Bev/MLE/Canaan
    Harden/MLE/Daiels
    Parsons/MLE

I think that before any other options are considered, the Rockets needs to figure out what happens with the Melodrama. If Melo is going to land in Houston, I see the following lineup:

    Beverley, Canaan
    Harden, Daniels, (Garcia?)
    Parsons, Covington
    Anthony, Casspi
    Howard, Powell

The Rockets can sign only rookies or vet. min. players due to cap problems. Therefore, Asik, Lin, TJones and DMo must be traded. Add the draftees from this year and 1-2 D-leaguers and that will more or less be the team. If the chemistry works out here, it could probably be a very good team. We will see very soon where this idea is going to.

I don't think the salaries will work with us adding Lowry at 8-10M, Gasol 8-10M, trading for Milsap (9M), and then resigning parsons 8-12M. We could possibly sign/trade for 2 of Lowry/Gasol/Milsap, but I don't think it's possible to get all 3. After we acquire 2 of those players we'd be able to go over the cap and resign parsons though.

We have enough salary to trade for $29 million of incoming salary. But it would be tricky to do and difficult to get all the teams together to make that happen.

Here's a "safe plan" for those who want to keep our core.

    Trade 1:
    Lin for Nash
LAL is desperate, and after striking out on many of their targets, they can look into the 2015 summer (Westbrook, possibly Love, etc). Nash may be washed up, and he may have one more year tops, but that means that his 2-year deal will likely just be one. If he's on the floor, he's an offense stabilizer and shooter for 20-25mpg, and either way, he's a great locker-room guy to have.

    Trade 2
    Asik for Green
Boston seems to be getting less attached to Green, and more interested in Asik. Green is a 3/4 that would be a nice addition with his solid D and versatility.

    Trade 3
    Pekovic to OKC
J.Lamb, HOU #25 pick, D-Mo, OKC #21 pick, OKC future pick, Perkins to MIN
N.Collison, OKC #29 pick to Houston
OKC gets a legit interior scorer and easy buckets guy who would fit well with Ibaka and Adams. Minnesota moves forward with Dieng, and gets some picks and young talent. We get a veteran leader and a defender at the PF spot, while moving down a few spots.

    Draft
    Draft K.J. McDaniels (SF/SG) at #29.
Draft Walter Tavares (C) at #42.

    Free Agency
Sign a veteran defensive C like Jermaine O'Neal or Emeka Okafor for $4/2ish.
Sign a veteran defensive SG/SF like Thabo Sefalosha for a similar deal.
Keep Parsons around for $30/3 or something similar.

    Roster
    C Dwight Howard
    PF Terrence Jones
    SF Chandler Parsons
    SG James Harden
    PG Patrick Beverley
    -
    SF/PF Jeff Green
    SG Thabo Sefalosha
    PG Steve Nash
    C Jermaine O'Neal
    PF Nick Collison
    SG Troy Daniels
    SF/SG K.J McDaniels
    PG Isaiah Canaan
    SF Robert Covington (RGV)
    C Walter Tavares (RGV)

Assuming most of the young guys we already have take steps forward, we'd be a much improved and more balanced team. We'd have perimeter D, veteran leadership, and much more depth. A guy like Canaan can step up if Nash crumbles, and Collison is there to play increased minutes if T.Jones finds himself in an unfavorable matchup. McDaniels brings athleticism and D to the perimeter and could find a way into the rotation. Jones, Parsons, Harden and Beverley should only get better.

No offense, but this line up blows chunks. Ignoring the lack of D for the moment, where is the quality depth? Forget the big 3 and focus on Spurs model of bringing in the right guys (quality depth to go along with their aging stars) who are committed to offense, defense & sharing the ball. This model is better than just acquiring talent willy nilly with no concept of fit, philosophy or culture.

Everyone can call me crazy if you want, but tell me this, is there a better team out there with max cap money than us? If that's the case, why wouldn't LBJ have some interest in joining us, the youngest team with two all-stars already? If I'm not mistaken only us and GWS have the ability to sign a max player, and we're better. Don't be too surprised if you hear LGJ wants to bring his talents to H-Town this summer.

Other teams could create it too, like we would have to. Notably Chicago.
