Not too much cred. Looks like a variation of David Thorpe's wet-dream tweet: Asik to Minnesota Pekovic to N'awlins Anderson to H-town
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mwxd9dr After reading the rumors of a 3 way deal between Rox, Bulls and Hawks with Lin & Asik outgoing plus the rumor that Melo has Chicago on his short list, I threw this one together. How far fetched is it? What else would need to be done to tweak it some more? Rockets Out: Lin, Asik Rockets In: Deng, Shumpert, 2016 Bulls 1st round Bulls Out: Deng, Gibson, Hinrich Bulls In: Melo, Lin Hawks Out: Millsap, Brand Hawks In: Asik, Gibson Knicks Out: Melo, Shumpert Knicks In: Millsap, Hinrich, Brand, 2014 1st round from Chicago (better of Chicago or Charlotte pick) The thing that jumps out the most as a problem is that ATL isn't giving up much. But they are taking on Gibson's albatross contract. Rockets would get 2 wing defenders we desperately need and a future draft pick. Deng would come off the books at the end of the year, and Shumpert could be used in trade in the summer. Chicago of course gets what they want. Knicks get a good 1st round pick this year, Millsap, and more salary cap relief to rebuild.
Lowry has burned some bridges around the league and this upcoming contract is likely his last large one. He is perhaps the long term solution if he thrives, but if he doesn't, then the Rockets have massive cap space with Deng and Lowry off the books to get a point guard. I don't think Lin or Beverly is the long term solution at point guard either, so to me it is a low risk move. Also a rotation of Lowry/Beverly at SG and Deng/ Parsons at the 3/4 should improve the team defense. It is just a thought.... Just think Deng/Lowry/Dunleavy really increases the Rockets depth and solves the issues at 1/2/3/4 spots on the floor.
Why is this guy quoting Clutchfans? Not that we're a source either, but I don't remember any "insider" here with this; someone DID post David Thorpe's tweet that he'd LIKE to see Asik-Minnesota, Pekovic-NOP, Anderson-Houston. http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/532656/20140103/nikola-pekovic-omer-asik.htm NBA Trade News: Houston Rockets Sending Center Omer Asik To Minnesota Timberwolves in Big Three-Team Trade By Lou Ramon Aguila | January 3, 2014 1:09 AM EST With the trade deadline fast approaching, trade speculations surrounding Houston Rockets center Omer Asik continue to heat up, and the latest reports indicated the disgruntled center going to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Rockets have been unsuccessful in moving Asik for quite some time since the Turkish center demanded a trade out of Houston two months ago. Asik has been linked to several trade scenarios, including the recent three-team trade with Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks, and the Rockets-Celtics trade talk. However, no trade took place primarily because of the steep asking price by Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for the center. In the latest rumors on basketball forum Clutch Fans, the Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly looking to trade Pekovic for a defensive-oriented center in Asik. Despite putting more talent on their roster this season, the T-Wolves are struggling to crack into the playoff picture of a very competitive Western Conference standing. Many basketball analysts believed the Timberwolves only chance in making into the postseason is to improve their team defense, which currently ranks 25th in the league (102.5 points allowed per game). Nikola Pekovic, who signed a 5-year, $60 million deal, has been solid for the T-Wolves at the center position, averaging 17.6 points and 9.1 points per game. But despite his consistency on the offensive end, Pekovic provides less impact on the defensive side of the floor. Asik, who averaged at least 10 points, 11 rebounds and 1 block per game last year, is viewed by many general managers as one of the premier defensive bigmen in the league alongside Dwight Howard, Tyson Chandler and Roy Hibbert. The Turkish big man's ability to protect the rim and clog up the shaded lane will make the Timberwolves a more formidable team with All-Star forward Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio and Kevin Martin leading the charge. For the trade to materialize, the Timberwolves need to find another team that will facilitate the deal because there's no way the Rockets would absorb Pekovic's huge contract. After all, the Rockets stressed they only wanted first-round draft picks in exchange for Asik from the start. Sources indicated the New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Bobcats and perhaps Brooklyn Nets could be the third team in the deal.
Here's what I'd do two separate trades: Lin and DMo for Deng or Afflalo Asik for Lopez and McCollum Maybe some picks moved around but you get your wing defender, backup center, and more quality depth.
I've wanted Deng or Millsap all along, but in case that doesn't work out... Houston out: Jeremy Lin Houston in: Mike Dunleavy, Josh McRoberts, Kirk Hinrich, 2014 first rounder (via Charlotte - Portland pick) Chicago out: Luol Deng, Dunleavy, Hinrich Chicago in: Lin, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Ben Gordon New York out: Carmelo Anthony New York in: Deng, Bismack Biyombo Charlotte out: Gordon, Kidd-Gilchrist, Biyombo, 2014 first rounder (via Portland) Charlotte in: Carmelo Anthony Why Houston does it: DM gets the 2014 first rounder that he covets and acquires two (possibly three) rotation players. No contracts past 2014. Dunleavy has played a lot of minutes at SG this year, can shoot and is a great glue guy. A definite upgrade to Garcia. McRoberts is quietly putting together a solid year, can hit from long distance and is a top-notch passer for a big man. Think Spencer Hawes lite but with better passing skills. As for Hinrich, you know what you're getting: a solid (albeit unimpressive) combo guard that takes care of the ball, shoots well and brings a good attitude to the table. The catch? We would have to cut two players. Brewer is an easy choice, but the tricky part would be deciding which other player to waive. Why Chicago does it: Deng is an impending unrestricted free agent so Chicago risks losing him for nothing if he walks. Kidd-Gilchrist is a solid young prospect to replace the void left by Deng and Lin will help the Bulls with their lack of a PG with Rose injured. Lin is light years better than Hinrich or D.J. Augustin. Why New York does it: the first step in blowing up this complete and utter disaster of a team in NY. New York really has no incentive to tank as they own no draft picks in 2014. Deng is one of the best two-way players in the league and the ultimate glue guy. Biyombo adds defensive toughness as well. NY is only 3.5 games out of the playoffs; it's not crazy to theorize that his trade (with a renewed focus and offense that isn't built around one player's ball domination) makes them a playoff team. Why Charlotte does it: to get the superstar player that they will NEVER land in free agency. Walker/Henderson/____/Melo/Jefferson will almost assuredly get them into the playoffs and possibly into the second round. Note: Chicago has added motivation to agree to any trade that betters Charlotte since they own the Bobcats' 2014 first round pick. The stipulation? It's protected for spots 1-10; in which case any trade that betters the Bobcats in their pursuit of a playoff spot is in Chicago's best interest.
If we are looking for a veteran player with BB IQ who is not afraid to get in other people's face, how about Andre Miller? He is old, but he also plays in a manner that does not rely on speed or athleticism. He's one of these guys who actually understand that a pass is faster than the fastest sprint. He apparently got really angry when Shaw benched him fior his first DNP-CD of his carreer.
DONT KNOW HOW CREDIBLE THIS WEBSITE IS BUT THOUGHT I'D SHARE THIS TID BIT OF INFORMATION: http://****************/articles/532530/20140101/omer-asik-jeremy-lin-rumors.htm
Why do I feel like if I click on this link I will get a sizable screen full of both female and male anatomy in action that I can't get off my computer and immediately get fired because of it?
Better to click on that link than on the "Jeremy Lin makes case for being starter" thread. Couldn't even follow my own advice. Kept posting in there. Every post, even when I also blast our other guards, just brings five new LOFs to jump on me like a bum on a baloney sandwich. As for that Lin-to-Chicago thing, I don't know who first made it up, but it's really taken on a life of its own.
I like this idea. Get the pick and some better bench players and rent them for the rest of the season and see how they do.
Nice deal for Chicago, but the Knicks downgrade, Bobcats trade a bunch of assets for someone who would leave them this summer. I don't love it for Houston either, although if the plan is to free up cap room for Lowry or whoever this summer, then fair enough.
Melo is under contract through next year. Charlotte is never going to attract a free agent of this caliber. I have a hard time picturing them saying no. As for Houston, the real prize is the first rounder. Plus, it nets us 2-3 rotation players with short-term contracts.
Trade Asik to 76ers for Young as soon as possible,PLS Young is a two way player who we needs. Young's offense is very good, his defense is underrated.
