Sheriff Buford T. Justice voice: "I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again. There is no way....no way we'll trade our 2014 pick." Can we even trade it? We just traded the 2013 pick. No way I'd yield it for that mess anyway. Asik Lin Dmo for Pau....sure, as long as Pau has a third team to go to. Asik and Dmo overvalued here. Deng will command much more than that.
The 2014 pick won't even be that good since it's likely going to be a late-1st rounder. We have the knicks 2nd rd pick, which is a better value than a late-1st because of contract-negotiating flexibility. And why wouldn't you want Pau as a backup? He's pretty much everything you'd want in a backup 4/5 on top of having an expiring contract to give us a lot of cap space and flexibility. Les also won't have to pay Asik and Lin and combined sum of about 30 million.
I would love to get Deng but only if it is Asik+Motiejunas+a future pick. Keep Lin in that scenario. Dwight/Smith/Camby? Deng/Jones Parsons/Casspi Harden/Garcia Lin/Bev Can win a championship.
Perhaps. Could be a different story once February 20th approaches, though. Honestly, Boston is the team I would think would be the most skeptical.
To be honest, I'd be fine with Pau on the team. He and Dwight seemed to play well together. But I don't think it's gonna happen. The 2014 first rounder will probably be in the 20's (fingers crossed; our team is so injury-prone this year), but teams are hoarding their draft picks this year. A pick at 23 in 2014 would be like a pick at 12 in last year's draft. Then there's the mistakes that allow good players to fall to teams. Hell, look at what happened with Cleveland at #1. And Giannis Whatshisface-us went in the late teens. To be honest, I think teams just don't want to miss out on the 2014 Big Dance. They don't want to be left without a chair when the music ends. It's like a rich family's White Elephant game at Christmas: Hinkie: "I got an Ipod! What'd you get?" Prokhorov: "I didn't bring a gift, so I couldn't play." "HA HA! HA HA! What a loser!" "Shut up!"
Chicago didn't get Asik and DMo in that guys trade. They got MKG. Might not be a bad return on a guy they're likely to let walk.
So a question, if Asik is traded for an expiring that is not resigned how much cap space would be available for a FA next year? Enough for Deng at 10-12? Then go over the cap to resign Parsons? If the bulls were smart they'd be burning up the phones with Morey attempting to pry away Jones and maybe Lin for Deng.
If we kept Casspi, Garcia, Jones, DMo, Beverley, Smith, Canaan, Covington on the books along with Dwight/Harden/Parsons/Lin we'd be at $54.7 million in payroll. If the cap went up to $62.5 million (which it is projected to do)..that would leave us with about $7.8 million of cap space to play with (not including our pick which we would probably trade if we were playing free agency), probably not enough to sign a guy like Deng outright. However, if you start moving out a few guys like Garcia/Smith, etc., we could easily get to $10 million of cap space if the cap does go up to $62.5 million. Deng will have an interesting free agency. He's a very, very good player but he's not the top player at his position, not even top 2 at his position. I would suspect he tops out at around $50-52 million over 4 years but if the cap goes up considerably then some team (or Chicago) could offer him considerably more, perhaps as high as $60 million over 4 years. In any wise, he's most likely to get $12 million per season or more in my opinion.
Trolling a Magic board and the fans have no problem giving up Afflalo who's 28 and may not fit in with their timeline. Plus he has an ETO after next year. Supposedly besides being one of the most underrated scorers in the league he's also a very good defender. So how about: Asik and Jones for Afflalo and Big Baby We cash in Jones who fits in with the youth in Orlando yeah they have an Asik in Vucevic but could make this a three teamer or Orlando could flip him or Vuc themselves. We also rid them of Davis who can play PF and backup C and who's contract still ends in time for Love. Of course the prize is Afflalo who becomes our gunner off the bench and backs up harden and Parsons and can also play the 3 with Parsons at the 4. It gives you basically the same scenario as Deng and you still maintain cap flexibility. Similar to Kevin Martin this just seems like a Morey under the radar type move.
Asik / Brewer for Chandler Chandler and Asik are fairly comparable except Chandler is more expensive and injury prone. Knicks would save quite a bit of money without sacrificing production and add a wing defender to boot. Chandler's money is steep but it gives us a huge salary chip to use at the deadline next year if Rondo/Love become available. It would also allow us to not have to package Lin with Asik to fulfill the salary requirements of any trades for big name guys. Chandler is not quite as good as Asik defensively, but certainly is no slouch. He is also a bit better offensively. Morey has chased Chandler in the past.
That's an interesting idea. It's hard to judge it from the Orlando point of view without knowing what they get via that 3rd team. Asik/Jones would add to their already crowded young frontcourt so I think there'd have to be a 3rd team.
Ouch.. That's true now that Chandler has the spine injury (or whatever he has that limits his movement). But it's somehow painful see it written so casually. I don't think Morey would do this, tbh.
Houston: out Asik / Brewer in Amir Johnson/ C. Lee Boston: out Lee/Base/2014 draft pic in Asik Toronto out Amir Johnson in Base/2014 draft pic
I look at this a bit differently. The Rockets need a significant backup center. The second unit has stopped functioning since Asik went idle. If Asik comes back and plays like he is able to, the Rockets are back on track again. If not, and seem to be the situation, Morey needs to find somebody who can replace him. The question of can D-Mo or Smith fill the task is unanswered at this point, but there are some encouraging signs here and there. Tyson Chandler is a starting C and would probably produce similar problems that Asik does. On the second side, I think teams that do not need a starting C, do not want to risk taking Asik, who may stop playing there too. Therefore, it is not an easy task to find a team that can trade Asik straight up and have something that the Rockets want to have. Because the 19th Dec limit expired and the incoming players cannot be traded this season, it most likely has to be a multi team trade.
Asik and brewer for wilson chandler and mozgov. Mozgov becomes the backup center. He can give 10-15 minutes of rim protection without demanding more time or post touches. Chandler is the wing defender we need to play behind parsons and harden. He can be great in small-ball line-ups with parsons at the four. He also fits our transition game as he can run the floor and finish. Not the ideal piece for this role (turner and afflalo are better two-way players), but he is the most realistic option.
Not sure if posted. http://spacecityscoop.com/2013/12/27/nba-trade-rumors-three-team-trade-involving-omer-asikjeremy-linluol-deng-explored/
Not feeling it. Lin has been playing very well, and we should wait to see how Asik comes back after the injury. I hate one year rentals especially if we are giving 2 pieces that are worth something to this team.
This rumour seems very real as it benefits all teams. Bulls need Lin Hawks need Asik (especially with Horford out for the season) We get Deng for a 3/4 season (I doubt we can afford him after this season) Will be sad to see Lin go as he seems like a blossoming player full of potential and a great work ethic. A possible future All-Star. But his talent (same as Asik) is wasted in Houston in this roster and under the current coaching staff.
This stuff has been touted a few times recently but is highly unsubstantiated. I doubt there is any real substance to it. Deng for Lin and Asik would be a good trade. He is a fantastic player and would help us win now.
