I think it's the right idea. However, the Rockets would probably have to add more. It doesn't sounds like Asik's value right now is high enough to get Millsap straight up. And Motiejunas/2nd for Brand isn't much of a sweetener. Atlanta might even prefer to keep Brand as a backup over getting a 2nd round pick. Motiejunas might have no value at all, since he has two years guaranteed at 1st round salary and hasn't proven he's an NBA player yet.
Good question. My hunch is that Daryl Morey has been trying to move Donatas Motiejunas for a draft pick since late summer/early fall and is getting increasingly frustrated. At this point, I think Morey is in take-what-he-can-get mode and will gladly accept exactly the sort of return he got for Marcus Morris (another former first round pick), a second rounder. So to answer your question, Motiejunas is worth a second rounder. However, I also have a hunch that Philly will trade Spencer Hawes for Motiejunas, one or more second round picks, and an expiring contract. This is most likely what Philly was hoping to get out of a three-team Omer Asik trade. Asik to mystery team; Hawes and mystery team's first round pick to Houston; mystery team's expiring contract, Motiejunas, and one or more second rounders (from Houston) to Philly. Trade ideas are going nuts lately. I'd still look for the Asik trade suggested in the previous paragraph to happen, sooner or later (hopefully sooner).
Rockets: Rondo, Bass, Brooks Boston: Lin, Asik, D-Mo, and a first I might be in the minority but I think that a big three of Rondo, Harden, and Howard would be on par with the Heat. James Harden turns the ball over way too many times a game and I think keeping him off the ball and treating him like a Ray Allen would help his game overall. Howard would be the beneficiary of some pretty sick alley oops from Rondo. Rondo has gotten much better at shooting the ball (See last year to when he first came into the league). I think the whole thing about Rondo having an attitude is blown way out of proportion. Rondo would make this team a championship caliber team. Adding Brooks and Bass is just a plus. Brooks takes those extra minutes that Harden does not need to be playing (less chance of injury). Bass can either start over Terrence Jones or be the backup. Either way we need a 4. I would love to get a guy like Hawes but I am taking Rondo over him all day every day. Sorry to the Rondo haters out there. I love Harden and Howard to death but if they cannot make adjustments to their games...this team will never win a championship. A trio of Rondo, Howard, and Harden would just be plain nasty. I think they would beat the Spurs, the Thunder, and the Blazers in the playoffs with a roster that looks like.... Rondo/Beverley/Brooks Harden/Brooks Parsons/Garcia Jones/Bass Howard/Smith Western Conference Champions
To Orlando:Jeremy Lin,Covington,Humphries To Boston:Omer Asik,Hedo,Donatas,Brewer To Houston:Nelson,Davis,Lee,Faverani,M.Brooks new lineup Nelson/Bev/A.Brooks Harden/Lee/M.Brooks Parsons/Casspi/Garcia Jones/Davis Howard/Faverani
LOL, did you rep this comment, "know your facts before you speak." Melo gone. Marquee signing McGee. So again, this the guy who got rid of Melo for JaVale McGee...
That's not what happened. Uriji re-signed Nene to about $80 million and then traded him for McGee after regretting the signing midseason.
It wasn't the intended original result. Uriji trying to correct a big mistake by trading it away for a little bit less of a mistake.
Their 2014 pick is owned by Atlanta, and they won't have their own pick for at least 5 years. So they can't just blow it all up and tank. They might trade Brook Lopez for a worse but healthy center, though. I could see that.
That is, Asik would qualify. Just need a 3rd team that's in a rebuilding stage, that doesn't want to win this year, that needs a center, that's willing to take a risk on Brook Lopez and would give something like a pick and some vets to Houston.
I can't see there being a market for Lopez. This is like the 3rd time he's broke his foot. It looks like another Yao situation to me. I can't see any GM trading for him.
Now it's super obviuos that Motiejunas would be traded in package. He does not play much, and even when he's first option off the bench as center AND power forward - coach does not put him into the game for any minutes.
Re Lopez, I suspect it's too early to consider him a negative asset. If I was making decisions for a team at the start of its rebuilding cycle, I'd take a gamble on him. It would depend on the doctors' prediction, of course.
Trade deadline move if the Lakers are out of the playoff race and are worried about losing Pau for nothing. Pau, Kaman, Farmar (all players have exp. contracts) for Asik, Lin, Dmo, Brewer, and our 2014 1st. Our 1st round pick won't be as good as the NY second round pick because it won't be high and the money is guaranteed for 2 years at a fixed rate. Pau and Kaman off the bench would definitely make a pathetic bench much more formidable. They're also expiring contracts so they give Morey cap space for major player(s) for this year or for more flexibility until next year. The Lakers will get something out of Pau in Asik and Lin along with a 1st round pick. Lin will put more fans in seats, which is pretty much all they seem like they want to do now-a-days. Bev/Brooks/Farmar Harden/Garcia Parsons/Casspi Jones/Gasol/Smith Howard/Kaman
Mega Blockbuster... Houston out: Asik, D-Mo Houston in: Luol Deng, 1st Rounder (via Charlotte - 2014 Portland pick) Chicago out: Deng, Erik Murphy Chicago in: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Ben Gordon Charlotte out: Kidd-Gilchrist, Gordon, Ramon Sessions, 1st Rounder (Portland 2014) Charlotte in: Rajon Rondo, D-Mo Boston out: Rondo Boston in: Asik, Sessions, Murphy Why Houston does it: Best of both worlds - a major roster upgrade AND a 2014 first round pick. All without sacrificing any rotation players. Perhaps this trade is too lopsided in our favor, but if DM were able to pull this off it's a homerun for us. Why Chicago does it: Faced with the possibility of losing Deng for nothing in free agency, it gives them a 20-year-old prospect and former Top 3 pick in the 2012 draft. And it briefly reunites them with a familiar face. Why Charlotte does it: Charlotte is never going to land a superstar in free agency. This trade gives them such a player in Rondo all the while sacrificing minimal assets (MKG has been so-so, Sessions/Gordon are expiring and the 2014 Portland pick figures to be in the 20's). Why Boston does it: Their interest in Asik is obviously no secret at this point, and Rondo is due for a change of scenery. It's time for Boston to move on past the old "Big 3" days and start fresh.
