I wonder if Lillard is 'approachable' by the Rockets.

    If DH commits:

    1. Trade Lin (8.3M) for Vince Carter (3.1m, 1 year remaining I believe).
    2. Sign DH.
    3. Trade TRob to Spurs for their current 1st round pick and send him to Europe.
    4. Remaining Cap would be around 4.5M and can spread into Delfino and Garcia.

You can go big with Asik and DH or go small with Asik/DH with Delfino at the 4, or 1 of TJone/Dmo.

Cuban may take Lin due to:

    1. During Linsanity, Lin scored 28 points, 14 assists, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and umm 7 TOs.

    2. Last year as a Rocket, Lin scored 21 points and 9 Assists first game against Dallas.

    3. After the coming season, Dirk agrees to a pay cut so that they are able to sign 2 max. contracts.

    Hope those impressed Cuban.

Since Boston is now in rebuilding mode, they might as well trade their best player to get a few more ping pong balls in the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.

Jeremy Lin and Thomas Robinson for Rajon Rondo.

    2013-14 Starters:
    Rondo
    Harden
    Parsons
    Howard
    Asik

That lineup makes me wet. ;)

^^ This, or you can also trade Asik+White+Cash to Atlanta for JSmith, then you can use the Room MLE to sign either Delfino or Garcia.

2 superstars in DH and Harden.
    1 near all-star in JSmith
1 potential all star in Parsons.
1 defense specialist in Beverley with tremendous upside, plus
young prospects in Tjones, Dmo, Greg Smith, Cannan and veterans in Delfino or Garcia and Vince Carter.

Fill out other 2 spots with Veterans who want to win rings, a la the Heat.

Championship team for not 1, not 2, not 3.............you name it.

    :p

Trade with GSW for David Lee?

Saw over on RealGM that David Lee is getting shopped right now and he seems like a pretty good fit next to Howard. He shot the long 2 at the same rate as LMA last year, good for .418 from 16 ft to <3-pt range.

The problems are that there's a reputation of putting up empty stats, his defensive issues are well known , and he's expensive with a contract that essentially pays him $15 million a year for the next 3 years. But you can mask his defensive issues by playing him with Howard, and you're not going to have a lot of cap flexibility after Howard anyways.

The important part here is that he is apparently available. Setting aside players like LMA/Love/Bosh who do not appear to be readily available (at least based on what the Rockets have to offer), would the poor man's LMA/Love/Bosh be a better option than the likes of Smith/Millsap?

One of the RealGM GSW forum mods proposed the following trade: Lee/Thompson for Lin/Asik

It's unfortunate that to make the deal work salary-wise, Lin is included as it makes the trade hard to evaluate fairly given the wildly differing opinions on the worth of Lin. But Thompson is a valuable young player that shoots the 3 at a 40% clip and could start next to Harden with Harden playing point.

Alternatively, Asik should have higher trade value than Lee given their contracts and on-court contributions, so maybe a Lee/pick(s)? for Asik/White could work, though I'm not sure about cap considerations in that scenario.

I think the Rockets should seriously look into Rodrigue Beaubois...his rights were renounced by Dallas....they way this kid plays is exactly what the fast paced Rockets are looking for.

Theres all kinds of reasons why this won't happen, but if you remove those reasons, I wonder....

Asik, DMo, Beverley and Greg Smith for Ibaka.

Trust me, I know. But it's something that makes sense.

Asik gives them the defensive anchor they wanted from Perkins. Beverley, GSmith, and DMo are just the sort of cheap assets that cap/tax sensitive OKC would want.

    Ibaka...
    a) played with Harden
    b) does not occupy the same spot on the floor as Dwight or Parsons on offense
    c) can give the Rockets a defensive presence when Dwight sits.

Obviously this trade won't happen, but it makes sense. Personally, I think Asik improves OKC more than Ibaka improves Houston.

Warriors a possible threat for Dwight?

It is a longshot, but the Warriors are in this too.

Warriors send out: Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes, Brandon Rush, Andris Biedrins, 2014 1st + 2016 1st
Warriors receive: Dwight Howard, Steve Nash

Lakers send out: Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, roughly 30m
Lakers receieve: A 14m TE from Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes, Brandon Rush, Andris Biedrins, 2014 1st + 2016 1st

Lakers would likely be able to send Bogut to a 3rd team for a massive trade exception, with many teams having capspace and one team - Orlando - having a giant TE themselves.

They could them amnesty Metta World Peace... and be actually under the tax threshold!

    Asik for R. Anderson

IF the Rockets sign D. Howard. What do you guys think of trading Asik for Ryan Anderson straight up?

They get a strong defensive center to play alongside Anthony Davis, Gordon, Holiday, and potentially Evans.

We get the stretch 4 whose already has experience playing alongside Howard and can decently defend other 4's.

Scenario if Dwight and Smith come here

Dwight agrees to sign in Houston

    1. Lin, Jones, 2nd rd pick (Portland), rights to Todorovic for McLemore and J.Thompson (Kings)
    - Frees cap space, get a nice prospect in McLemore and solidify the backup C position in Thompson.
    - Kings get a marketable player in Lin who would be an upgrade at PG. Terrence Jones can also be a better fit next to Cousins in the long run.

    2. Sign Dwight.

    3. Asik + Royce's contract for SnT Smith (Hawks)

    Use MLE on Calderon.

    Calderon/Beverley
    Harden/McLemore
    Parsons/Anderson
    Smith/Dmo
    Howard/Thompson/Smith

    asik/lin/white and a 2nd round pick for Rondo/Lee

    Howard
    TJones
    Parsons
    Harden
    Rondo

Rondo will demand defense from Harden

and we will have the guy to contain the lights of parker/westbrook/paul

our offense will take a hit but our defense and leadership will rise

Rondo will not tolerate any excuses

The Rockets will only have the Room MLE since they are below the cap and using cap space to sign free agents. That is only worth around $2.5M. Calderon can probably get more than that.

FWIW, the Rockets are not allowed to use cap space to sign free agents and then use the $5M non-taxpayer MLE after they're over the cap. Because you need to waive the non-taxpayer $5M exception in order to have your cap space. Otherwise, the $5M non-taxpayer MLE cuts into your cap space and you don't have enough cap room to sign Howard.

I don't think the $2.5M Room MLE is enough to get Calderon.

If Rondo leaves, they're rebuilding around their young PG Avery Bradley and tanking for Wiggins. That means they don't need Jeremy, and Asik will mess up their tank.

Also, Rondo is a bad fit with Harden. Both ball dominant, but Rondo can't shoot.
