Our main need is a serious upgrade in the paint. We need a big man. Where's all the trades for a legit starting center. I'm wondering if the ideal course is to stand pat if we cannot acquire one of Dwight, Nene, Cousins, or Bogut.
This trade would be the type of trade I would look for the rockets to make. Minn Timberwolves receive - Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger Houston Rockets receive - Derrick Williams, Nikola Pekovic and Martell Webster I think it makes sense for both sides. T-Wolves get a scorer who can score at will at the wing in Kevin Martin, who along with Budinger, know the ins and outs of the Princeton offense. As for the Rockets, they get a guy in Derrick Williams who has the talent to be a future star. Not to mention the rockets get some very much needed inside help at the center spot with Nikola Pekovic.
The Rockets trade Thebeet, receive pizza hut pizza from what ever team. I know the deal seems very one sided towards the Rockets, but I think teams could use their imagination with Thebeet. Maybe the worlds tallest least coordinated mascot?
I like the direction of your thinking, especially if Morey and McHale decide to start over a bit, develop the young players. Thing is, Minnesota might be thinking the same thing; or would Adelman prefer to have a trusted veteran on his squad (Kevin Martin)? Denver would be a good trading partner in order to get Nene, given that so many of the Nuggets are RAs in China now, and won't be back right away. But I don't know their cap holds and whatnot. They would seem to have cap space.
3 team trade Rockets get - Bogut, 2012 2nd rd pick (Bulls) Bucks get- Scola, Flynn (exp. contract), Asik (Bulls) Bulls get- C.Lee, 2014 1st rd pick (Bucks) This trade could work assuming Gooden get amnestied from the Bucks. Scola gives them lost post offense that they have been missing for a long time, Flynn might be something off the bench for them, and Asik still gives them a great defensive presence. The Bulls get a legit SG that can play defense and shoot the 3, which is what they've been missing. That allows them to unload some of the guys that were ineffective. The pick could be useful to them down the line. We some get something we've been missing for a while, a legit center. With Scola gone, Ppat can start to flourish with Hill or morris backing him up. This also allows us to use Dragic as a combo guard instead of just the pg. If t-will can get his head out of his a**, he may get some pt as well. I'm pretty sure Lee was going to leave anyway if we didn't do something with him, might as get something out of it. Rockets lineup afterward Lowry/ Dragic Martin/ Dragic/ T-will Bud/ Morris Ppat/ Hill Bogut/ Chuck?/ Thabeet What do you guys think of it?
i know it sounds crazy.. i would give brandon roy a shot if he gets a amnestied from portland, of course with low pay. then we could trade martin and thabeet to pacers for granger and hibbert. with that roster, courtney will be the starting sg. dragic and twill can do a bit of both backup pg and sg.
Bogut would be the perfect Center for us but no way in hell the Bucks let him go. He is their franchise player. (Sorry Brandon). He's arguably the best defensive center in the league, even moreso than Howard.
Okay, time for my first random trade idea since the lockout started (I think): Given that the new sign-and-trade rules don't really provide any financial benefit for stars seeking to get larger contracts (since all sign-and-trades under the new CBA will be restricted to the same amount that the player could have gotten just be signing with the other team outright), there is now a decent enough chance that Orlando has to pull the trigger on trading Dwight Howard during the season or risk losing him for nothing. Remember, both Cleveland and Toronto got an assortment of future draft picks and a huge trade exception, all for just signing and trading Lebron and Bosh, respectively, to longer-term deals with larger annual raises. But had the new CBA been in effect in 2010, there would have been no point to such deals (as Lebron and Bosh both could have just signed the same contracts with Miami outright), and Cleveland and Toronto would have gotten NOTHING for those stars. Flash forward to February/March 2012. If it becomes apparent that Dwight Howard has no interest in re-signing with Orlando (who, in all fairness, can pay Howard WAYYYY more money than any other team . . . IF he plays FOR ORLANDO), the Magic may need to scramble to get something, anything, for him in trade. They could wait until the summer, at which time they could work out a sign-and-trade (or, if before July 1, an extend-and-trade) to a team like the Lakers. But the Magic would be risking Howard leaving for an under-the-cap team without Orlando getting any compensation. Therefore, if I am Daryl Morey, I offer the following (at-least-somewhat-realistic-for-purposes-of-Orlando's-consideration) trade proposal: Trade 1: Orlando trades: Dwight Howard for Houston trades: Goran Dragic, Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill, Terrence Williams, Hasheem Thabeet and a future first rounder Trade 2: Orlando trades: Chris Duhon for Houston trades: $3.25M trade exception (from Battier TPE)* Trade 3: Orlando trades: Quentin Richardson for Houston trades: $2.45M trade exception (from Battier TPE)* *Technically, Orlando doesn't "get" a TPE from Houston. Rather, Houston absorbs the salaries of Duhon and Richardson using portions of the Battier TPE. Then, Orlando generates new TPEs by not taking back any salary for those players. Why Houston does it: Dwight Howard. Duh! Need I say more? To think, the Rockets could head into the 2011-12 playoffs with the following roster (not even counting FA acquisitions but assuming Hayes comes back): PG: Lowry / Flynn / Duhon SG: Martin / Lee SF: Morris / Richardson PF: Scola / Patterson (or Hill) C: Howard / Hayes Not bad. And to think, this trade wouldn't even preclude the Rockets signing Nene this December! Why Orlando does it: As I mentioned above, the writing would really need to be on the wall in Orlando for a trade like this to happen. Also, the Magic would need to decide that trading for Bynum (injury-prone on long-term deal) or P.Gasol (a little too old for rebuilding Magic team) are not desirable trade acquisitions for them. Orlando gets Budinger on a dirt-cheap deal through 2013 and gets a two month-plus audition from Dragic, Hill, Williams and Thabeet, none of whom would be on the books beyond next season if they sucked. My guess is that Orlando would like at least 2-3 out of those 4 for rebuilding purposes. If forced to (and Morey probably would be), I'd replace Hill with Patterson . . . begrudingly. The future first rounder probably won't be a very attractive pick (due to the pick obligation owed to the Nets hanging over the Rockets' collective heads). Perhaps most importantly, this trade would save Orlando a TON of money and gives them maximum roster flexibility compared with most other offers for Howard. It may be a little far-fetched, but it would at least be worthy of consideration by a desperate Orlando Magic team.
