The thought of it isn't unimaginable, as the hundreds of threads over the course of the year over both topics can attest. We just don't think that other GM's are stupid enough to trade star players for packages that don't even contain our best players.
Morey's strength is drafting. But I have to ask, if these guys that he's drafting are all scrubs then why would the Magic trade us Howard for a bunch of scrabs? That seems to be a large hole in your logic. Moreover, the trades that are alluding to where superstars are traded for scrubs are salary dumps. If Orlando wanted to dump salary why would they take on Scola's contract?
Minnesota has one pick in 2012 and it is the 18th, so there are no acquired "picks" to flip. That being said, even if they included a later draft's first round pick, why would they trade multiple picks for Kevin Martin? Since you know so much, how does the salary cap affect all of your ideas? How much will you have to pay Deron Williams? How will the salaries match up in a potential trade for Howard? How do you address Howard being in the last year of his contract? Considering the Rockets don't have a second round pick, please detail your plans for acquiring one. Once you have done that, please provide the name of the 'deadeye SG' that will be available at the pick they acquire. If you want to be taken seriously, provide more detailed analysis than "do this, do this, do this, do this, I am smarter than Morey".
If the Rockets do indeed try to go after Dwight Howard in the summer.... http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d7x8a6a Rockets: Dwight Howard & Josh Smith Kings: Jeff Teague & #16 overall pick via Houston (NYK pick) Magic: Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, Patrick Patterson, #14 overall pick via Houston, & Houston's future pick (via Dallas) Hawks: Luis Scola & Tyreke Evans
Resign Lee, Camby Sign Deron Williams PG: Williams, llull SG: Lee, FA SF: Parsons, Bud, Morris PF: Smith, D-Mo C: Howard, Camby
HOU to Miami: Scola, Parsons, Dalembert, Patterson, 14th Pick, 16th pick Miami to Houston: Bosh, Haslem (or Battier) Salary works out: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=89cjbm5 http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6rjfk5q Miami has 3 stars but little behind them other than vets who look to be aging badly and making too much money to one degree or another (Haslem, Battier, Miller). This is an issue reflected by the Bosh injury. They are basically the opposite of the Rockets: got the foundation stars, but have a hard time getting what the Rockets seem to have a easy time getting-- solid role players, particularly younger contributors on rookie contracts. They will also have hard time getting these going forward since they only have the tax-payer $3 million MLE and low picks (and they still owe Cleveland 2 first rounders in 2013 and 2015). So, this trade gives the Rockets a star player. For Miami, it gives them what they've lacked: a full sized center (Dalembert), young legs to spell Lebron (Parsons) and replace the aging Haslem (Patterson) at a low price, two draft picks in a deep draft, and sufficent salary relief to take them below the tax which gives them the use of the full MLE and the BAE). Scola is not Bosh, but he does the limited set of things they ask Bosh to do (bang down low, make jumpers and passes).
Hell, no. Giving up too much. Bud instead of Parsons and ONE of the picks, maybe. Or Morris instead of Bud and NO pick.
3 Team Trade. Wont shake up anything for anybody, and teams not named ROCKETS will probably not go for it. but lets take a look: Mil: A. Bargnani, P. Patterson Hou: A. Johnson, L.R. Mbah a Moute, D. DeRozan, L. Sanders Tor: K Mart, Scola, T. Harris Rockets get some size (undersized pfs), a center-sized center, and a potential All-Star of a sg in DeRozan. Mil gets F***ed, Tor gets some players who can produce now. Not a lot of good trade scenarios are set up for the Rockets....
If the Rockets make a move to trade Kevin Martin to Minny...They would have to take back contracts...I understand that...two players that I thought would have a chance was Martel Webster and Luke Ridinour/or Wes Johnson(doubt this player would be traded though) plus the 18th for Martin. The next goal was to package the pick with our current picks...and try to move up in the draft...(ie all three if in the top 3...highly unlikely)...or 2 of this years first rounders for a top ten pick... Then with the remaining pick plus the top ten pick...call up the Magic...put together a package that would bring Howard here...(We would have to eat a bad contract like Turk's)...that is just a suggestion...make the free agent bid for Deron Williams in the offseason...if possible... Dallas is desperetly trying to do the exact same thing...we atleast have some assets that ORL can use...
