Do you think Josh Smith could fit with the Rockets and fill our defensive void?

Shane is an expiring contract. He would not be sent to replace anyone. We could use Jeffries instead seeing as he to has an expiring contract. The lure is not the players, its their contracts. Also, we would be sending youth as well.

I can't see atl wanting pure contracts....like you said, they'll want youth, probably Budinger. I referred to battier just to cover all most likely and possible scenarios.

I have to say though, if Smith keeps up his shot blocking, which is unlikely, he can be worth it. He's had 5 or more last three games, if he can average 3 or more a game that's game changing stuff that's not very common.

Josh did pretty good tonight: 35 mins., 6 pts., 11 rbs., 4 assts., 2 stls., 5 blks, +5(+/-). Good production if you ask me.

For all those people that say he does nothing on offense. Does Shane?

I think we are all too high on Budinger. He's a Athletic SF with a good shot off the bench that plays below avarage defense and scores 9pts/game mostly off open 3s and dunks in transition. Alot of players in the league can do that

I would ship him out for Smith. He truly Changes the games with his steals and blocks and rebounds. And if we were to aquire him, we'd play him alot at the three, and play him when Scola is on the bench. (Lets be honest He has to be better than Shane on offense the past few years, not to mention the Putbacks and Alley-oops he gets.) He is Athletic and a Great defender to guard the perimeter bigs and Great weak side shotblocker which we desperately need.

Also another thing you guys do not mention is how he can play the inside as a PF on offense because Scola has a very consistant Mid range J(Ie: Scola plays the role of SF) Martin and Brooks provides more than enough 3 point threat. We arnt lacking on offense, we need defense.

I agree he isnt the ultimate Piece we need (A true Allstar with ability to close games) but he would definately be a great piece to stop this layup drill and make us not give up 122 POINTS a game.

Bud + Hill/Patterson + Jefferies for Smith I think would do quite nicely. If they want we can even give them Knicks 2012(End of world that year anyway ;) And who honestly thinks that will be a lottery pick when Melo/CP3 Forces a trade/signs there with Amare)

With that all said, he needs to be avaliable first lol.

^^ Smith get some nice stats...but what's going to happen when playing at the three takes him further from the rim? Tht's going to hurt him defensively and offensively. He'll also have to share more of the offense. Do you really want to pay 12 mill for someone to score 12 pts a game, grab 6 to 7 rebs, and get 1.5 blocks? That's close to Carl Landry numbers.

    J. SMITH IS A PF OFFENSIVELY ONLY. His mid-range and 3pt shooting is SUSPECT to say the least.

He can guard the 3,4 or select 5 spots. He would definately help this team with defense, rebounding, & shot blocking. It will be necessary to keep shooters on the floor with him unless you are going to use him heavily in the pick-n-roll game.

He probly would be a great replacement in PHX for Amare.

If the Rockets included their draft picks that teams want, who loses in this?

ATL needs to get some cap relief and picks. J.Smith seems to be the "odd man out" on ATL's roster in regards to getting paid. Houston could use their Trade Exception from Ariza trade to help ATL financially.

PHI is "looking to the future" and seems to be open to moving Iggy to give their young backcourt an opportunity to grow. They need a new beginning with expiring contracts, young talent, and picks.

The Rockets get younger, tougher, athletic, and significantly improve defensively, espically in the areas of rebounding and shot blocking.

This does not make us better now or in the future.

I think you need to make a trade that makes this team better NOW & FOR THE FUTURE, you have to go after either/both IGGY & SMITH and believe that with the current collection of talent and scoring options plus them, you can be competitive enough to be respected on the court and attractive enough as an organization to entice quality free agents to sign in the future.

    A line up of:

    Brooks / Lowry / Ish
    Martin / Lee
    "Iggy" / Budinger
"Josh Smith" / Scola / (Hayes or Hill)
    Yao / Dampier / Miller

    = Western Conf. Contenders

...and YES Josh Smith should start over Scola because like Landry used to do, it gives the second group a go to option. I actually think that Smith and Scola would end up playing alot together if this happened based on the matchup and would be more RECEPTIVE to coming off the bench.

Based on matchups and game flow, I think Smith could play any position from 3-5 and iggy could play 2-4 (like he did for Team USA if the small ball match up presents itself or injuries hit)

Both the first and second units are BALANCED with go to scoring options, defensive presence and intensity.

Getting one of them is one thing. Getting both is
You do realise they make something like 27 mil per year combined for the next 4 years? That would take us to luxury tax HELL and make us so unflexible. Les would never allow that.

I never said that it would be easy or would come without sacrifice. Getting the money to work could be the hardest part, but HELL they somehow got it to work in MIA.

    Regarding Smith's contract:

Smith has a 15% trade kicker worth about $8.7 million that must be paid in a lump sum after he is traded. The bonus can be prorated over the remaining three years for cap purposes, but it's still a financial hit.

Trade between spurs and rockets that will never happen

    Spurs get
    Brooks
    Jeffries
    Picks

    Rockets get
    George Hill

:( Can someone make a decent trade where we get Hill?
