Morey would say that his position doesn't matter. If a talented player were to become available, it wouldn't matter his position, so long as he improves the team. Personally, I think Josh Smith would improve our team. Besides, if the Hawks picked up Shaq over the summer, I figure that Josh Smith would have played the three for the Hawks this year. It would have been Bibby, Johnson, Smith, Horford, and Shaq.
My apologies, but he cannot shoot consistently from outside and he actually tries to shoot 3 pointers, which laughable. He is the perfect 3 to replace Shane and put some serious lock down on the 3's or 4's who torch Scola on the perimeter.
He would be a beast next to Yao, once Shane's man or AB's man got pass and Yao stepped in the way, there is one more hurdle, smith. Yao/Damp/Miller Smith/Scola (Hill, draft pick, and Jeffries go to Hawks) Shane/Bud Martin/Lee Brooks/Lowry Ish, keep JT, and another developing Big Man
Why is everyone so concerned with him being an outside shooter? How many points has Battier put up the past couple seasons? Our team is full of outside shooters and I think we tend to rely on that a little too much. He would be an excellent fit allowing brooks and martin's defense not to affect the team with Josh and Yao down low along with scola. I also don't think it would take a lot to get him. Maybe Battier, Jefferies, and Hill. This free's up the log jam at the 4 and opens up room for him to play both positions. We can throw in a pick if need be. They get expiring contracts and young talent in Jordan Hill. Hell they can have Jermaine Taylor too.
No way. Pacers are going to keep that core: Granger, Hibbert, Collison, Paul George They have a bright future. I wish we could have Hibbert though
A roster of: PG: Brooks/Lowry/Ish SG: Martin/Lee SF: J. Smith/Budinger PF: Scola/Hayes/Patterson C: Yao/Miller/Dampier Looks pretty solid to me.
We're in need of that desperately! Also, it's like you're saying hes an offensive liability. Dude can score, block shots, play d, and his athleticism is great.
Honestly some people only look at offense. Smith is one of the best if not best shot blocker in the NBA right now. He's 24 years old still has some growing to do. We can maybe get him cheaper than Melo, get rid of some of this depth we have and at the same time get a big man that can actually protect the paint and guard mobile bigs. Seems like a win situation for me. He doesn't seem like the other young fellas who are intent on playing in NYC or LA either.
Smith has not played the 3 in years because he simply cannot shoot from outside the paint. He is a 4 and always will be
That doesn't mean that he can't play the 3 in our offense. Like I said earlier, we have plenty of shooting to make up for that. Plus he can move to the 4 when scola takes a break. He's one of those guys that Rick can play in several positions.
Josh Smith is a 4 trapped in the body of a small forward. That's something that's being overlooked severely in this thread. People are also crazy to think we can get him in a trade centered around Battier. First of all, he has more value than that, and second, ATL doesnt need a 3 OR a 4. Horford is their true 4 and he's not going anywhere. Perhaps they'll ship Marvin out to open up the 3 spot, but Battier isn't who they're looking for as a replcement. They want youth...so if you want Smith you'll be giving up at least Budinger. On top of that we'd have a lot of money at the 4 with Smith and scola, waste of talent and cap space. Playing him at the three doesnt make sense if he can't take a backseat to our other shooters....can he? Maybe will he? Not likely......To get a SF whos going to make over 11 mill i rather pursue Iggy. Otherwise, i dont think Smith is worth 11 mill for us when he'll mainly just play D and get putbacks.
Overrated like 5 years ago. Not sure anyone is really that high on him anymore.. As far as Smith goes.. Always bite if the price is right. Not the missing piece IMO.
