yeah he would be #2 on our depth chart by default, but do you think he's capable/ready to take on that role? i honestly don't know.....have seen much of him other than the summer league games. i'm not against Bima's trade proposal though - as long as we don't part with Martin then i don't mind trading for Melo
No trade exception is generated in this trade. It may play out that way if something goes down, but in my scenario, the Rockets give up more picks and Sacramento eats salary in lieu of Denver unloading additional contracts. Patrick Patterson. Plus, Carmelo can actually play a bit of PF in a small-ball lineup. Shane, too, to a lesser extent.
Actually, Denver would get a trade exception just under $10m in your scenario (Carmelo's salary of about 17m less the ~7m they receive from the Rockets). They're trading Melo by himself -- thus eligible for a non-simultaneous trade exception.
i dunno. our big man depth chart would be down to 4 bodies, and none of them would be great one-on-one defenders in the post (unless patterson learns on the job real quick). we would have to find another big somewhere, or hope that denver will agree to buyout and release the chuck wagon...
Or take back Chris Anderson in a Melo deal. He's a legit big man who's an exceptional weakside shotblocker.
hey buddy, Love is already ready to sign an extension with the Wolves. And quite frankly, Im sure the Wolves are too. They traded away AJ to make Love their new man. As for cap space like you mentioned. They dont need it. They have it. They have the most of it I am quite sure as well. (they are only sitting at 30mil atm, wtf kinda team is that) Do you remember my first reply to you first trade proposal? Would you do that trade if it were vice versa? If Love was a Rocket, would you want to give him up for non rotational players?
Obviously, with the Rockets essentially doing a 6-for-1 trade, they'd look to fill out the roster with quality D-Leaguers or other waiver wire fodder. I'm sure that Morey can find SOMEONE he likes enough to be the team's fifth big man on a team with so much talent elsewhere. Hell, maybe Morey can talk a guy like Joe Smith out of retirement. I mean, it's not like we need a major star to fill that roster spot. As for the "let's get Denver to buy out Hayes" part, no freakin' way!!! Not because I don't love Chuck. Rather, I don't want the hellfire from the league office that would surely rain down on the franchise if that happens. We're talking multiple first rounders confiscated and major fines to lighten Les's pocketbook (which I'm sure would be hard on him in the wake of this costly trade). I doubt that Denver would feel the need to buy out a quality post defender who only makes $1.97M next season. There's just no upside to the Nuggets.
I can actually see this hapenning. We seem to have good relations with Sac's front office and Melo has the power to choose his destination, so if he chooses Houston Morey's got a huge upper hand on Denver's GM.
Hey Bima, in your scenario, is it possible for Houston to also send 3M to Denver? (if Denver wanted us to offset the money they were sending to Sac)
No. Not unless a second trade were made (i.e., $3M cash and the draft rights to Frederic Weis for Denver's 2017 second rounder). Plus, I can't see Les shelling out any more cash in a Carmelo trade than he would be under my scenario. With the Nuggets netting over $20M in savings with that proposed trade, it would just be downright GREEDY for Denver to demand any more cash out of Houston. Denver's currently in luxury tax hell; and this trade would put them just above the tax threshold with a very realistic chance of getting completely under it.
this was a trade a proposed a while ago. If Charlotte isn't worried about reducing payroll or believes they can get under the LT by other means, he could be moved for Billup's therefore also reducing cap space by tons for Denver. Denver replenishes the PG spot with Brooks from Houston. With Brooks getting ready for a decent pay raise, they can decide to keep him in rebuilding mode or a good SnT and continue with Lawson. Also getting strong prospect's Hill and Budinger. Also getting Harris and Johnson (non guaranteed contracts = 1.7mil) and expiring Jeffries. A lot of non guarantees for huge cap relief. 2 prospects and of-course Houston would throw in a pick. One of the 2012 pick (between the Knicks and Rockets 1st round). I would try to see if Houston can get a pick from Charlotte for providing Brooks. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2bdhtex
ESPN reports Bulls are considering sending Noah as a part of a package for Melo. Presumably, that package must include Luol Deng, too, for the salary to work. So, here's my idea, if Denver isn't big fans of that package. To Bulls: Melo To Rockets: Deng + Noah. To Denver: Whatever the hell we would sent to Denver for Melo. Noah = REALLY REALLY GREAT!
