Yeah, that's the best way to handle it. i would hate to see either team gut their teams for Melo. The Rockets can compete without Melo, while the Clippers still have a great young core of developing players going forward.
A few things: (1) The Rockets have to retain one of the 2012 first rounders. By rule, they cannot be without a first rounder in two consecutive future drafts. (Oh, and we don't know if the 2011 pick will be the Knicks', although it better be.) (2) I think Denver will want more than a trade exception in exchange for Billups. The Nuggets could arrange to get plenty of cap flexibility pretty quickly with Melo and Billups trades. I think they could net another young/future asset or two for Billups. (3) Patterson is not a small forward. I think he's more likely to play minutes at center than as a SF. And I don't think he'll play much/any center.
what do you guys think about us going after Marc Gasol if we had the opportunity to do so? what would we give up for him? would he fit well us?
Can any make a 3 way trade with Charlotte work? I feel like the potential is there but can't seem to make the numbers fit. The main pieces should include ROX IN: Carmelo DEN IN: Brooks CHA IN : Billups
Bima, I think it was you who posted a 3way with Charlotte involving Dampier. You mentioned he was a non gaurantee contract? How do you find this info?
Here's my attempt: Hou in : Anthony + Balkman + Augustin (out Brooks, Jeffries, Battier, Hill + NY picks + 2nd rounder) Cha in : Billups + Taylor + Hou 2nd rounder (out Dampier + Augustin + '11 1st) Den in : Brooks + Jeffries + Battier + Hill + NY '11 swap + NY '12 + CHA '11 + Dampier (Out Billups + Anthony + Balkman) Houston Lowry/Augustin/Ish Martin/Lee Anthony/Bud/Balkman Scola/Hayes/Pat Yao/Miller
my try: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2bdhtex Dampier's contract is non guaranteed. Making him a huge payroll reduction if waived (and honestly, who wouldn't waive his over payed butt) If Charlotte isn't worried about reducing payroll or believes they can get under the LT by other means, he could be moved for Billup's therefore also reducing cap space by tons for Denver. Denver replenishes the PG spot with Brooks from Houston. With Brooks getting ready for a decent pay raise, they can decide to keep him in rebuilding mode or a good SnT and continue with Lawson. Also getting strong prospect's Hill and Budinger. Also getting Harris and Johnson (non guaranteed contracts = 1.7mil) and expiring Jeffries. A lot of non guarantees for huge cap relief. 2 prospects and ofcourse Houston would throw in a pick. Most likely, the lower 2012 pick (between the Knicks and Rockets 1st round). I would try to see if Houston can get a pick from Charlotte for providing Brooks, but maybe not.
Step 1: Houston gets:Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith Denver gets: Kevin Martin,Shane Battier,Trevor Ariza trade exception, 2012 NY pick Step 2: Getting Carmelo will hopefully make Chris Paul want out of NO and want to come to H-town. Houston gets:Chris Paul NO gets:Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, 2011 right to swap from New York. Thus this: Chris Paul/Kyle Lowry/Ishmael Smith Courtney Lee/J.R. Smith/Jermaine Taylor Carmelo Anthony/Chase Budinger Luis Scola/Pattrick Patterson Yao Ming/Brad Miller/Chuck Hayes This probably would be considered a dream , but if melo came here, houston might start looking a lot more attractive to cp3
I made a proposal for Iggy in another thread: no GM on their right mind would take on Brand's contract, but Nocioni's might be a compromise for both team. with Collins a fan of Battier, it's hard for Philly to turn down a C-Bud, Hill, Battier, Jefferies for Iggy+Nocioni deal. Yao, Miller Scola, Patterson, Hayes Igudala, Nocioni Martin, Lee, Taylor Brooks, Lowry, Smith we'd be instant contender this year and still got to keep all our picks to work if another super star becomes available. for example, come trade deadline if the Hornets can't work out w/ CP3, we could still manage a package of Brooks + Martin + NY's picks for CP3 + Thornton; or if Paul George is real deal Indy might trade Granger for Martin + a pick? we just need to get some stars soon w/ our surplus trade assets.
Im thinking something like this To Charlotte: Jeffries Brooks To Denver: Hill Budinger Dampier Knicks 2012 #1 Rockets 2011 #1 (with swap option) Charlotte 2011 #1 To Houston: Anthony Augustin Birdman (via TPE) Lowry / Augustin Martin / Lee Anthony / Battier Scola / Patterson / Andersen Yao / Miller / Andersen
I like this deal a lot, but it doesn't work in the Trade Machine unless you take out D.J. I believe Dampier has a clause in which he cannot be traded until September 13, 2010. However, he can be traded if it is just him being moved. So, I figure Houston could potentially use the Ariza TE for Charlotte's Augustine. To make your deal work.
what do you think about this? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=26cflp5 Houston - Gets Melo but takes on Yi, but a solid role player Melo YI Denver - gets scorer in Arena, Youth in Hill and Pick and Great teamates Hill Arena Battier Hamilton NYK Picks Washington - Gets rid of big Arena contract, allows wall to develop. Smith Jeffries Detriot - Billups goes back to detriot team similar to the championship Billups
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/2010/08/carmelo-anthony-to-the-wizards.html Three Team Trade DEN receives: 2Pat + Hill + Taylor + Battier + Jeffries (expiring) + Dampier (non-guaranteed) + NY 2011 pick (HOU 2012 pick + option to swap w/. NY) + NY 2012 pick * Nuggets cut payroll by $8,972,523 (save $17,945,046 incl. tax). Over the tax by $2,848,071 CHA receives: Brooks + Smith + $3M (via Nuggets) * If Derrick Brown waived before Nov 1st. Bobcats over the tax by $453,303 HOU receives: Melo + Birdman + two future 2nd picks * Rockets over the tax by $1,743,137 Remaining MLE: $1.365M? Max signing bonus $1,355,881 (5 year contract)? Able to structure deals worth $2.7M for 1yr or $3.9M over 2 years or $5.3M over 3 years? Sign Pablo Prigioni * If signed for $1.365M (bonus doesn't count) the Rockets will be over the tax by $3,108,137 (+ 12th player) Lowry, Prigioni, (Smith?) Martin, Lee Melo, Budinger Scola, Andersen, Hayes Miller, Yao
Here is a "God Father" Offer for the Nuggets. LOL. Brooks + Martin + Hill + Budinger + Battier + Jeffries + Our own 2011 pick + NY 2012 pick for Billups + Carmelo + Anderson http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28quy2h Billups/Lowry Lee/Taylor Melo/Patterson Scola/Anderson/Hayes Yao/Miller Lawson/Brooks Martin/Afflalo Battier/Budinger Harrington/Martin Nene/Hill/Jeffries Honestly, that trumps any offer from the Nets or Clippers. Unless Clippers offer up Blake Griffin, I don't see it.
Call us the Houston Nuggets! Caarmelo doesnt seem to want to play with Billups so I doubt it. Why do peeps want to give up everyone........
If we have to give up either Brooks or Martin, I dont like giving up two 1st rounders, cause frankly I dont see other teams giving up good players and multiple picks.
If Denver is looking to rebuild they probably won't want a guy making $10 million a year in Martin, or a guy soon to be making $10 million a year in Brooks. The insiders have all said expirings, picks and young talent..... If the Rox go after him (please no, please no) then it will be something like a pick or two, Jeffries, Battier, Hill and Cbud. Nothing more. DD
