you dont wanna make Denvers package less sweet. Patpat can be added. Or Brooks for Holiday if Pat pat isnt enough, but not both. And if we did Brooks, forget about a pick damnit. But I would still do it.
If we get Iggy and Jello then we could trade Martin!! Big change of mind we should not move both AB and Martin!!
DEN: Melo + Smith + $3M + Two future 2nd picks HOU: Brooks + 2Pat + Hill + Battier + Jeffries (expiring filler) + NY 2011 pick (HOU 2011 & right to swap w/. NY) + NY 2012 pick * Nuggets cut $3,159,402 (or save $6,318,804 incl. tax) 3RD team receives: Smith + $3M + two future 2nd picks to team under the cap Remaining MLE: $1.365M? Max signing bonus $1,355,881 (5 year contract) Fully non-guaranteed multi-year deals allow entire bonus paid in first year. Able to structure deals worth $2.7M for 1yr or $3.9M over 2 years or $5.3M over 3 years? Sign Pablo Prigioni Sign Patrick Mill to the min? Trade future 2nd pick for the rights to Magnum Rolle Lowry, Prigioni, (Lee/Taylor/Mills?) Martin, Lee, Taylor Melo, Budinger, (Lee) Scola, Hayes, Rolle Miller, Yao, (Hayes/Rolle)
johnhollinger If Nuggets do hold a Melo auction, my $$ is on Melo to Hou in a three-way with Charlotte -- Dampier to Den (gets under tax), Brooks to Cha. ...Good call Bima. Obviously this may not happen but wow, are you Hollinger?
Bobcats have until Sep 1st to waive Derrick Brown otherwise his contract becomes guaranteed. Sherron Collins also holds a non-guaranteed contract but the conditions are unknown. Charlotte's payroll stands at $78,066,044 incl. Dampier & Brown. In a three way deal involv. DEN & HOU. For CHA to trade Dampier's contract and stay under the LT. They can only take back $7,759,045. Or if Brown is waived before Sep 1st CHA can take back $8,521,240. This is provided that Collins contract is fully non-guaranteed. CHA may want to hold onto Augustin and wait to get under the tax with a smaller move (ie, dump a lesser player) later in the season. Three Team Trade DEN receives: 2Pat + Hill + Battier (expiring) + Dampier (non-guaranteed) + NY 2011 pick (HOU 2012 pick + option to swap w/. NY) + NY 2012 pick * Nuggets cut payroll by $12,053,894 gets them under the tax by $233,300 CHA receives: Brooks + Smith * Bobcats are over the tax by $253,303 HOU receives: Melo + $3M (via DEN) + two future 2nd picks * Incl. Augustin in the above trade scenario would not work but Rockets hold the appropriate TEs. Remaining MLE: $1.365M? Max signing bonus $1,355,881 (5 year contract) Fully non-guaranteed multi-year deals allow entire bonus paid in first year. Able to structure deals worth $2.7M for 1yr or $3.9M over 2 years or $5.3M over 3 years? Sign Pablo Prigioni Lowry, (Prigioni/Smith/Mills?) Martin, Lee, Taylor Melo, Budinger, Jeffries Scola, Hayes Miller, Yao Billups, Lawson Afflalo, Harrington, Battier Martin, 2Pat, Andersen Nene, Hill, Williams
Okay. Then how about this? Houston gets: Carmelo Anthony Charlotte gets: J.R. Smith, Mike Harris, Alexander Johnson, cash Denver gets: Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill, Chuck Hayes, Jared Jeffries, Erick Dampier, 2011 pick, 2012 Knicks pick Why Houston does it: The Rockets get Carmelo. Why Charlotte does it: Charlotte gets another scorer in Smith for Dampier's contract. The Bobcats would likely waive at least one of the non-guaranteed contracts of Harris and Johnson. Cash always helps. Why Denver does it: They get two nice young player (Budinger and Hill), two potential lottery picks, a solid bench defender (Hayes) and still get a TON of salary cap relief with the non-guaranteed contract of Dampier. With this adjusted trade, the Nuggets would save in the range of $20M in salary and tax next season and drops them close to the luxury tax threshold. Unfortunately, with the Nuggets now taking back Jeffries, Denver would get that 2011 pick swap.
you seem like a really smart guy. very surprised you would want to do that trade. its 3 first round picks and buddinger thats only going to get better for a player that i just dont think is worth it.
Thanks . . . I guess? Honestly, I don't think that much of Jordan Hill. He doesn't strike me as someone who will ever amount to much more than a decent backup PF with some athleticism. As for the Knicks' picks, I think the 2011 pick will be a mid- to late lottery pick; and the 2012 would likely be a late lottery to mid-first rounder. I can tolerate losing those picks in order to get a true superstar. Look, I don't particularly like Melo that much. But I can realize what an immense talent he is. I said the same thing about McGrady in 2004. Tracy was GREAT for the Rockets for 4-5 years before he quit on the team in 2008-09. Bottom line: To get a true superstar (what this team apparently lacks), you've got to "pay up". Look at it as a premium that must be paid. I think Morey will do that if necessary. But, hey, if he can hold onto the 2011 pick, more power to the Rockets!
That's great and all. But if Carmelo and Denver collectively decide that Houston is the better destination for Melo, I don't think the Bobcats would simply refuse to take part in a Melo trade just because they're not the ones getting Melo. As long as Jordan and the Bobcats think the trade makes them a better team and/or puts them in a better financial position, then they should be willing--albeit begrudgingly--to deal.
I would do it, even though I would hate losing Chase, but the good thing would be that we would get to keep Battier, and there wouldn't be that many minutes left for Chase with Carmelo on board. Ideally, the Nuggets would cut Hayes and we could sign him back on...
Yeah, pretty much all of my "Melo trade thinking" was with a mind towards retaining Battier. I think the Rockets will really need Shane's defense and leadership next season. Chase is one of a primary "assets" being relinquished to Denver, so that's just the price you've got to pay. As for Hayes, I absolutely hate giving him up, but he's the only salary that fits without giving up either Brooks or Patterson, both of whom the organization thinks very highly. I think the secret's out about Hayes as an elite post defender. At a mere $1.97M, I just don't see the Nuggets willing to buy him out or cut him. There's no upside to Denver in that transaction. Hayes has value. Either than can use him or they can flip him later in the season for something else.
How about we send Martin + Hill + Battier + Jeffries + 2011 Knicks swap + 2012 Rockets first (we keep the Knicks pick) for Melo and JR Smith. Then, in a separate deal, we use the TE from the Ariza trade for Birdman. We roll with this: Brooks/Lowry Lee/Smith/Taylor Melo/Budinger Scola/Anderson/Patterson Yao/Miller/Hayes Championship?
Love all your posts BimaThug... I think this is the most realistic trade scenario I've seen if you must involve a 3rd team... I agree with you on all points... I too feel we don't need to give up Brooks or Martin to get Melo. I also don't see why everyone is so high on Jordan Hill. Losing Budinger is what will hurt but we're gonna have to give up something good to get something greater back. I'm not exactly a Melo fan but he is very talented and will clearly make us a better team. I've always said he plays ALOT better when he plays with all-star talent. When he plays for team USA, he's defensive minded, unselfish, and has a much better shot selection. If he does come here, I believe we'll see the very best version of Melo out on the floor because he'll be playing with all-star or near all-star talent at the 4 other positions.
Question: How far above zee tax is zee Nuggets? Also for Jordan to want to do a 3 way wiz zee Daryl Morey, Aaron Brooks has to be involved. I think they need a PG and Brooks helps. JR Smith has negative value.
