Do you think Josh Smith could fit with the Rockets and fill our defensive void?

well, a denver nugget fan recommended that trade. :D So i think there's some hope of it being realistic. Of course, this scenerio is if its a sign and trade for melo who has signed an extension.

If Nuggets want to dump Nene in a Melo trade...

    Melo + Nene
    for→
    Brooks + 2Pat + Hill
    + Battier + Jeffries
    + Taylor
    + 2012 NY pick + 2012 HOU pick

Denver reduces team salary by $5,241,171 (or saves $10,482,342 incl. tax)

Nuggets has the roster space to take on 3 extra players. Shelden Williams or jermaine Taylor will need to be cut or moved to a third team before the season starts.

Lowry, "x" (Smith, Mills, or both?)
    Martin, Lee
    Melo, Budinger
    Scola, Nene, Hayes
    Miller, Yao

From what I've read Ishmael Smith's multi-year contract is a non-guaranteed training camp deal. One more player needed to meet roster minimum if they keep Smith.

Nuggets allegedly tried to move JR Smith and Kenyon Martin last trade deadline. They've now got the the assets to salary dump those players to get under the tax or package them as expiring contracts for a superstar should that opportunity arise.

If we get Melo, does he extend first with Nuggets (like a SnT?) or once he gets here (like he promises...and can do us like Boozer??)

I dont care for this trade. But I remember the talks of trying to get Lopez. I mentioned try help NJN get Melo in exchange for Lopez but my trade machine was down. personally I don't like the idea of giving up sooooo many young talented players and our NY picks for Melo, especially not knowing his true intentions.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=35978nf

So you guys wanted a true center in case Yao cant come back. I'd rather not trade Yao, but hope he signs for less next year. So here's my idea.

We help NJN get Melo (like he mentioned previously). Problem is NJN, they don't have the assets like Houston.

Nuggets: give Anthony, receives AB, Jordan Hill, Damion James and Troy Murphy, NYK 2012 1st round (from Houston) and 2011 NJN first round.

Houston: gives Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill 2012 1st round Knicks pick, receives Brook Lopez

NJN: gives Brook Lopez, Damion James, Troy Murphy and 2011 1st round pick, receives Carmelo.

Nuggets, why? Not taking the chance on Carmelo staying or going, needs to get the most for him. 3 young players in rookie contract and an expiring Murphy, very serviceable. Not to mention 2 more 1 st round picks to help build.

NJN: Carmelo! Can Devin, Carmelo and Favors be a big trio?

Rockets: Brad Miller was originally the back up center but a move like this guarantees Houston line of big men. Moving Brooks, who is due for a big pay day, is also beneficial to moving Lowry to the starting line up.

    Bash away.

you would give up a lottery pick, a maybe 2 more lottery picks for someone who would probably player 1 or 2 years here? And at that not even know if he would come here?!?!

Getting his rights doesnt ensure he comes play, ya know.

I think otherwise. If we get Melo, keeping Shane would be the better choice. We would be in win mod/playoff mode hence needing elite defender(s) (Lee?). Having Shane around would be more plus then Chase.

    Remaining MLE: $1.365M?

Max signing bonus $1,601,581 (5 year contract)?
Fully non-guaranteed multi-year deals allow entire bonus paid in first year.
Or even structure a 2-3yr deal where avg annual salary is around $2-3M?

    Sign Pablo Prigioni

    Brooks, Lowry, Prigioni
    Martin, Lee, Taylor
    Battier, Budinger, Jeffries
    Scola, Hayes, 2Pat
    Miller, Yao, Hill

Should a trade for Melo or similiar opportunity arise. All positions are covered. The Rockets won't be left scrounging for depth.
